If you had asked me 20 years ago that I’d have five cats, I’d say you were crazy. I grew up with dogs, hamsters and rabbits, not cats. It was Josh that wanted a cat. When we got the evil princess in ’97, she was just that, an evil little princess. She was sweet to Josh but evil incarnate to me. She attacked and clawed at me a lot. It took ten years for her to calm down. I don’t have these issues with the other four so I assume it was because she was an only cat.

The evil princess is getting older. She is still a pain when she is hungry but otherwise she is pretty mellow. She’s still adorable when she sleeps, which is what she is doing right now. She is looking all sweet and innocent curled up on one of Josh’s old shirts. He is still her favorite, almost 14 years later. That’s OK. He’s my favorite too.

In April, this site will have been around for 15 years. People don’t believe me but yep. 1997. Crazy, huh? I’m slowly making changes in my life to slow down the hectic schedule that seems to have plagued me. I’m not making time for myself anymore and that is wearing me down. Things that have been on my proverbial To Do list too long need to get done. The things that get left on that list are things that would be for myself. I love my family and friends but I need my me time! 2012 is my year. 2012 is for me. Now to just make me some more money so I can do more for me.

One thing on the list is to redesign the site. I’ve thought about getting a pre-made theme but part of me feels like that’s selling myself short. I’m a freaking developer. I do still Heart Geeks, but maybe it is time to retire Millhouse.

I just felt a little sad and nostalgic as I deleted the files. I suppose that is typical when you are making a big change. Well big in this context.

I recently had one of those life lesson dreams. You know, the ones where someone pops into your dream and tells you what you have been telling yourself but just needed someone else to say.

I had a dream that a coworker popped onto a table all I Dream of Jeanie like and told me, “You know what you need to do then, right? Just give them up and go back to it.” The amusing (or weird, depending on your take) part of it was that the dream was about Facebook, twitter and this site.

I think I was feeling guilty about abandoning this site and the 14 years of content I have put into it. Social media is killing my desire to write and babble on. If I can’t get what I am thinking about out in 140 characters or less, then it isn’t worth writing about. That’s not true and my subconscious was trying to tell me.

I don’t think I will give up twitter and Facebook. I am using them less but I need to start using my site more. Perhaps the dream was really about getting back to ME and not focusing on everyone else. Me being the site which is an extension of me and social media being my way of getting information to others and helping them, which I am guilty of doing constantly in life. If one can be guilty of helping that is.

Well, this was more therapeutic than it needed to be. Thanks for being there my blog. My old friend. Let’s try to do this more often. I’ve missed you.

It’s been over a full day. The crew is getting weary.

I turned off the bassackwards mouse scrolling. Maybe if I only used a trackpad I could manage. For now, no thanks.

Of course I forgot that I should have made a backup disc (see LifeHacker’s Instructions). So I am redownloading it now. If you need to download it again, open the Mac App store and Option+Click on the Purchased tab at the top (for some reason other have had to use Command+Click).

Some info I have heard about the slowness is that Lion is re-indexing everything for Spotlight searches. It doesn’t explain the fact that opening a new Finder window and waiting for all of the files to show takes forever. But, once the re-indexing is done, it did speed up significantly.

I haven’t noticed a lot of extra heat build up, but those problems I was hearing were mostly on laptops, so it could be isolated.

I hope some of this helps someone. Good luck.

Oh… and I’m so excited that I got facetime on my machine automatically now. Too bad I don’t have a camera installed on this machine. /eyeroll

So I went ahead and upgraded my home Mac with OSX Lion. I had some reservations but I decided to just go for it.

First thoughts. Beavis this sucks.

The scrolling is completely opposite of what it was. It’s like they are preparing us for a mouseless world. Oh wait, I think they are. Everything is gesture based now which is fine and dandy on my iPad but it sucks for a computing environment. It’s going to take some getting used to.

After the initial install and reboot, I tried to open some of my adobe applications. Illustrator completely hung on me and Photoshop managed to open partially. After a complete reboot, things improved.

I use SynergyKM to sync the mouse to multiple devices. That is working fine. The scroll reversal works the same no matter what OS type I am logged in to.

So far VMWare Fusion is running with no problems.

I don’t run MS Office on my Mac, I run it within VMWare Fusion. The initial reports I have been hearing are not good.

Since it is getting late, I’ll end it here. Would I recommend it to anyone on their work machine? No. Not yet. You need to get familiar with the quirks and also make sure the issues with software compatibility are resolved. But that is the case with all OS upgrades. Just proceed with caution.

If you are going to upgrade, I can’t emphasize enough the need to enable Time Machine to make a back up of your system just before you install. At least that way you have a way to go back. If you don’t, you will have to start from scratch. Not the most fun.

I have had the hardest time connecting my iPad to connect to this site but i think this time it is finally working. Maybe I can start updating more throughout my day. I am either too tired to update or too busy when I get home. I am living the whole working hard for my money idea.

I am looking to update my portfolio. I have been doing so much that it is time to update. Just need to think about how I want to present it.

Anyone else on pinterest? It is becoming mildly addicting. My co-workers have discovered it and it is a bit dangerous. There are occasional sounds of, “ooh, that’s so awesome” heard over the cynical walls. Yeah. We are a bit weird like that. So if you are there, you know how to find me.
