Tiptoe
(11:56AM)
I'm bored. I can't really do anything right now. Josh is feeling worse today. He has fallen asleep, but is freezing. It is 82 degrees in the house right now. ??!! I can't make too much noise because he really needs to sleep. The cat is loving it because all of the quiet means she gets to sleep a lot too. She is pretty pathetic sometimes.
I so deserve a cookie after this week.

In a need to cleanse my eyes from something horrible I saw (Thanks a lot Angie). I went searching for cute kitten videos on YouTube. Eventually my search landed on this particular video. It isn't necessarily cute. It is interesting though. The necklaces around the cat's neck and the look on its face made me think of one of those bad old TV show hostage videos. All it was missing was a newspaper with the date showing. My eyes feel better now.

Lurving the Nip
(09:08AM)
All of the kitties lurv the nip. I put some catnip out for the kittens and they luuuuvvved it. Lots of foot wrestling occurred. Middle kitten is apparently addicted. He is a Cheech and Chong user. He stopped for a minute and has returned to the nip. Twin kitten is somewhat of the corporate/American Psycho type of nip user. He can stop. He has control. They are cracking me up when they are in it.
Look, I've been taking care of my husband who is still home sick. At this point, I am amused by the simplest of things. I am excited about going to the grocery store. Please don't let me come down with whatever it is he has.

Responsible
(01:04PM)
Why doth thou come so early oh dearest mailman? The mailman came earlier than usual today. I went to put a couple of bills out and I found mail already in my box. Here I was, trying to be all productive this morning, writing my bills two weeks early and slam, roadblock. So, I must remember to put them out tomorrow morning.
Josh is home again. He is still sick. I managed to get him out of the house and into the yard today. I told him he should check on his hops. They are growing nicely. One is a little, um, stubborn, but it is growing. Now he is eating soup and resting on the futon. That futon is almost twelve years old and in great condition. We bought a really good one back then. We knew we wanted to keep it for a while. It will stay in the house until we can find a couch we both like. As picky as we both are, it is probably going to be another twelve years.
As I was making lunch, I started thinking about my family. With me being a vegetarian, there aren't that many foods that I, my siblings, their kids, and my parents all love. Actually, I can only think of one thing. Green grapes. I could down a pound of them in one sitting if you let me. I've got a bowl of them sitting on my desk right now, taunting me.
In other news. Josh and I have been watching New Amsterdam. So far it has been pretty good. Last week and this week are LOST reruns, there was no new Torchwood last week and I am not really a reality show fan. So, New Amsterdam was pretty much the only thing we have watched in the past week. Needless to say I am eagerly awaiting the end of the week. Torchwood and Doctor Who. Yippee! When is Mythbusters coming back on? I need to feed my brain with healthier tv food!

Hindsight
(05:33PM)
I went on an interview this morning. I am keeping my fingers crossed as it is something I would actually enjoy doing! But the reason for this post is not the interview. I actually had to write about the absolutely adorable fat little cow figurines I saw in the interviewer's office. I did ask for the story behind them, but in hindsight, I should have also asked for the name of them. I've been thinking about those cute little cows all day! Of course googling cute fat cow doesn't come up with much help. Thankfully I had the search filter turned on!
In other news. Josh is home sick. Yesterday I had a feeling he was getting sick. Last night he started to think he was getting sick. This morning after getting up for work, he declared he really was sick. So, I'm taking care of him. The cat has been helping. She's been sitting with him and leaving when he gets annoying. Smart cat.
I should go check on the patient. Wish me luck folks. He's never fun when he is sick.

Cherry Blossoms
(09:38PM)
I have a fondness for cherry blossoms. They are blooming in Washington D.C. now, so I decided to see if anyone had posted any pictures on flickr. I discovered this wedding cake. If Josh and I had had a wedding, that would be the cake. It is so adorable. They are made by a California company called Glass Slipper Gourmet. This cake is just crazy. Morocco and 1930s Vogue are awesome as well. I stopped looking after I saw the Lilac Blossoms cake. I wouldn't want anyone to eat it. It looks so great.

Taking a Break
(02:08PM)
I'm taking a break. I've been doing a lot of studying. During my little break, I saw a bit of a really bad movie called Landspeed. It was about breaking the land speed record. It was from 2002, but it really seemed like an early 1990s movie. It had that feel.
Now I'm waiting for the Martinsville race to begin. I should probably go ahead and turn on the surround sound, right? Oh look, it is the FedEx car. Apparently it is about 40 degrees at the track. Holy carp. It's in the 80s here.
Race time...

Head Owww
(12:29PM)
I just hit my head on a shelf in the laundry area. I do it almost every time I take clothes out of the dryer. I think I may have a permanent indentation on my skull. It really hurts now. I've been battling what feels like the start of a migraine for days now. They have been doing prescribed burns near here (at the preserve at the end of my street). It more than likely has something to do with that. It hurts, but it isn't a full blow migraine.
I'm just going to hope that tomorrow is loads better than today. I'm taking Brittany to spend her Ikea gift cards tomorrow. This could be frightening.

Lists and money
(05:22PM)
I am writing my grocery list. I notice that there isn't much of a difference from week to week. There is the occasional cleaning product or toiletry. In general though, it is nearly the same. Unfortunately, every week the grocery bill gets bigger and bigger. I've always over budgeted what we spend on groceries, but now the actual number is creeping uncomfortably close to my "safe" number. That is not a reassuring thought.
If the number is increasing such a noticeable amount for my bill. I worry about those individuals and families on fixed incomes. A few weeks ago I was near the milk section of the grocery store and I overheard and elderly woman saying to her husband, "Milk has gone up $0.25 in one week. One week!" My mom observed the same "phenomenon" with toilet paper. Interestingly enough in the case of the toilet paper, it went up more than $0.25 in two days!
In the end, I still see people with baskets full of "junk" food that are paying with credit cards. I hope they are getting cash back on those cards.

Link Roundup
(09:49AM)
It is time to clean off my desktop which means it is time for miftik's link roundup.
YouTube Videos:
1.) Live Action Ms. Pac-Man by the Go-Team. One word. Awesome.
2.) Cadbury Creme Egg snuff films. I don't know who thought of these, but there is something disturbing about watching creme eggs trying to off themselves. Check out the UK website for more disturbing fun.
3.) We are the World, as sung by Japanese impersonators.
4.) A Wow spoof of movies, MMOvie.
5.) Horton Hatches the Egg. 1942 Warner and Dr. Seuss. Perfect.
6.) Not on YouTube, but a video none the less. The Lorax, the complete cartoon.
7.) Captain Dissillusion. He makes sense of the silly things.
And for the rest...
1.) Knitting links on my crafty section.
2.) Emergency Substitutions. Unfortunately I ran out of vanilla extract and needed something to substitute. Even more unfortunately, I was out of vanilla bean as well. Doh.
3.) Radiohead is looking for listeners to create a video for any of the songs on their latest work, In Rainbows. I have an idea for 15 Steps, but I don't see myself taking part in this contest.
4.) Organized Home. Be Still my organized heart. (link via Pamela)
5.) How to apply mineral makeup from BareMinerals. There is a video that starts up on default, so may want to initially turn your volume down.

Oh the Pain
(08:23PM)
Josh and I worked in the yard today. He did a lot more work, but I wasn't feeling well to start with, so we are both equally miserable right now. We both tried to get up from the couch and were hunched over. Just a little bit of pain. I feel like my spine is compressed. Ow.
We got our coupon for the digital TV converter from the gubment. I only picked up one box and we hooked it up last night. It works pretty nicely. We'll probably pick up the second one later. Now we REALLY have a lot of PBS channels. We get three different stations plus their extra digital stations. Our TVs are in pretty good conditions, so changing them isn't a necessity. Especially with as little as we watch it. Maybe if I get a job we will get a fancy TV, but even then, I think I'd rather work on the house and maybe get a couch first.

TV and Movies
(04:59PM)
Josh and I don't have cable. I've stated this a number of times. We have cable internet, but we really don't watch all that much television. The only cable show we watch is Mythbusters. We can watch that via the internet. Everything else we watch is something we can only get online or we can get over the air.
Now, I have discovered VeohTV. I had known of hulu.com and waited for it to open. Hulu has full tv shows and full length movies available for streaming. They do play ads, but I've only encountered 15 second commercials. Not too bad. They have a fair number of cable shows too. Cable, who needs stinkin' cable.
Veoh allows you to play hulu shows and movies as well as other video. They have channels to sort through it all as well as search. Veoh hosts videos like YouTube does. I happened across Veoh while looking for Voyagers episodes. Kris, they have them. I watched (and then downloaded) Worlds Apart! The quality isn't that good, but apparently the person that posted them took them from a tape. I'm surprised it was still viewable after that many years! It looked better playing through to the TV though.
The official movies and television shows on hulu.com look good. You can embed them in web pages. You can embed certain segments of the show or movie as well. For those times you want to say, WTF? I haven't tried to download any other videos other than the one Voyagers episode. That was hosted on Veoh, so you might not be able to get the hulu ones.
Well, I must go now. There is a brush fire down the road. It is supposed to be under control, but I'm still going to see what is going on.

Oh. My. God. I kept waiting for it to tell me that it wasn't available in Australia... and then it started playing! Those credits are amazing. So, so familiar, yet at the same time so very strange. Man, we watched weird stuff in the 80's.

Just think of the After School Specials we used to watch. Eeek.
I'm hoping that my library gets it on dvd. I really can't justify buying it, but I'd love to see if there is anything extra on the dvd.

Flashback
(07:31PM)
One of my aunts is only a five years older than I am, so we grew up together. Apparently she is at Best Buy right now and discovered that the old show, Voyagers has been released on dvd
! Of course she had to call me because we used to watch it.
For those that aren't old enough to remember or have seen it the show, it is about a time traveler and a boy that go through time to repair history. I only remember one episode clearly, "Worlds Apart". It was an episode where Thomas Edison invents the electric light (and that was by accident).
Good gravy I feel old. That was in 1982.
:: Comments left behind ::
OH. MY. GOD. Not only do I remember that show... that is also EXACTLY the only episode that I can remember. (He ends up using a bit of the kid's shirt for the filament, doesn't he?) That's so weird.

Actually I think Jeffrey (the kid) ripped the threads from his shirt as he was leaving and then Edison says he can fix it. He gets some thread out of his drawer and as he pulls it off the spool, he discovers it is the perfect filament. I can still see Edison's face as he holds the thread up to his face in excitement.
I can't believe I remember this.
