Birthday wishes

Somehow I don't see Josh buying me a remote control Dalek Thay or a Imperial Guard Dalek. The idea of one of them and the cat in a room together is amusing on its own. There is a mini r/c set too. It looks like it might be Dalek Sec and one of the others, but I'm not sure.

I was checking out the rest of the site and came across stuff for a kid's party! If I had kids, I'd be all over it.

Once again, I have found something good through google ads!

Pay it Forward

Via Pamela...

Pay It Forward: I will send a little gift to the first five people who leave a comment here or in my LiveJournal.

I don't yet know what that gift will be, but you will receive it within 365 days. The only thing you have to do in return is "pay it forward" by making a similar agreement on your journal.

I may knit something. Perhaps I will sew it. Maybe I'll make use of all of the beads and jewelry making supplies I have. It could be a mix cd. It may be something useful or completely silly. Perhaps one day when you weren't expecting it, you'll find a little something in the mail.

So, who wants to get a surprise in the mail? Comment here and then email me your mailing address!

I'll hopefully remember to edit this entry when I get all of the people.

Simplest Things

Sometimes things are done for the silliest of reasons and the simplest of things.

My cat has been behaving like a pain the butt ever since I got home. I've been sitting at my desk trying to write bills and balance the checkbook. She has been all over the house messing with things in an attempt to get my attention. When she finally started to chew on paper on Josh's desk, I gave in. I picked her up, plopped her down in Josh's chair and pulled it up next to my desk. She looked at me for a few seconds and then proceeded to curl up into a ball and is now asleep.

She's been like this a lot lately. She likes to be within about four feet of me. If I go into the kitchen, she'll go and sit on the floor. If I go into one of the bedrooms, she'll go with me. It is the same with every room of the house. It isn't food related either. She does this even when she has food on her plate. Cute, but odd.

In other life related news... Josh and I have been watching all of the Doctor Who episodes lately in an effort to catch him up. Unfortunately, this is now causing weird Doctor Who related dreams for me. I'm creating episodes in my dreams now. Weird, but it doesn't make for a solid night's sleep. Oddly enough, none of them actually feature the dear Doctor. It was full of other reoccurring cast members.

Hey Catster and Dogster Users

OK, if you have your cat on catster.com or dog on dogster.com, you can get a free 8x8 in. 20 page photo book from Shutterfly.com It is for anyone who was a member before August 14, 2007 (that's this year). I don't know the quality but I figured I would mention it. Catster link. Dogster link. It is only good until this Sunday, so get to work making your photo book if you are going to! Oh, and you don't have to make it of your pet. Though it might be cute.

Michigan and Mythology

There seem to be some mythology fans behind Michigan. Romulus Michigan is 169 miles away from Remus Michigan. Then we have the University of Michigan's mascot. It just happens to be a wolverine.

For those that don't know the story of Romulus and Remus, visit the wikipedia entry. I just thought that was interesting.

I've had a headache for quite a few hours. Nothing is stopping it. I am quite miserable. Bleh.

Land Before

:cough: Land Before Time :cough:

Spiiiike.

Wii arrival expected tomorrow. Josh is expecting me to have it hooked up and to have already mastered the Wii Sports games before he gets home tomorrow. It is nice knowing that your husband knows and trusts that you are fully capable of handling electronics. My only issue is going to be whether we should move the television for maximum play area. If we move it, we have to completely rearrange the living room. Eeek.

Many Reasons

OK, one of the stories up today is that Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been denied access to the fenced in area of the World Trade Center site. The word on the street is that it was due to security and construction concerns. I imagine security concerns refer to his security and the nation's. Letting him there sets him up for any type of assassination attempt, which could lead to big trouble for our country.

I know people think Ahmadinejad is the man controlling things, but they would be wrong. The structure of the dispersion of power in Iran and its constitution leaves the presidency with far less power than one would think. The Supreme Leader actually holds more power than the presidency.

Just a little something to think about.

Cheating

Today I wound up the yarn I dyed Monday. I am seriously adoring the color. It is yummy.

I also did something else. I did a little online shopping for a game system. I had gotten a lead on warehouses getting them this week and so I have been on the hunt. The stores were due to get them Friday night so I was worried that I would have to be late getting the kids for AJ's birthday breakfast in order to acquire one. Fortunately, I was diligent enough that it paid off and I acquired one around noon. Go me. I didn't even have to pay an arm and a leg for it.

In other news. I've finally done it. I turned Josh into a Doctor Who fan. At least the new Doctor Who. I started by watching it while he was brewing and he started getting into the episodes. So, now we have started from the beginning of the 2005 episodes and will work our way up to the end of this season. Unfortunately, this will have to tide us over for a couple of years due to David Tennant's stint with the Royal Shakespeare Company. I think we will survive. At least there will be Christmas Episodes and a couple of one offs. I suppose I could try getting Josh addicted to Torchwood. I'm not as fond of it as I am the Doctor though. That can change.

Catzilla Strikes Again

Yeah, my cat is a freaking holy terror. The vet tech thought we were kidding when we warned her. She was a pushy older lady. The vet said she might be willing to drive here to the house if we can't get her sedated on the meds she was given today. The last ones caused a seizure, so we're hoping to have better luck with this stuff. She got her little pills for her asthma. If we can knock her out, they can look at her a little better to see if she might need a different course of treatment. Whatever works.

My little terror. Think Godzilla, in a cat suit. Yep. That's her.

Update: We just discovered the stuff they gave us to sedate the cat is a freaking opiate. They should just have us make her have some poppy tea and milk. She'd drink it.

3:10 to Norway

The kitty has a 3:10 to Norway. She's going to see her vet, named Norway, at 3:10 today. She has an idea that something is up, but hasn't quite gotten the clue. She HATES it there. She used to be fine going to the vet when she was younger. Not anymore. If you recall, she's a holy terror when she is left there. She just needs something for her asthma. I hope it isn't a little inhaler. One of my sister in law's kitties needs an inhaler. I really should learn to draw my cat as a cartoon. Her life is just overflowing with cartoon content.

In other news, Josh and I each bought new shoes. I actually ended up with a pair of Sketchers. They are much cuter than in that picture. Josh found some for himself and all is well. Now I am just having a hard time trying to throw out the other shoes. I keep thinking, "Oh I can wear these to do yard work" but I know I have other shoes for that. /sigh They were good shoes. I'll miss them.

My Papa

My dad surprised me. Well, sort of. He called me from about ten minutes away to confirm which exit to get off of. He had been picking up some stuff for their business and was only about fifteen minutes away and decided to visit. He hasn't been here since before we painted the living room. He never seems to have time.

When dad comes, there is always an inevitable trip somewhere. He usually makes it here around lunch time, so we either go and get something already made or get the things he wants to make. Well today he insisted that he buy and have me try the Morningstar Farms breakfast bites. They weren't half bad. They seem to be his latest obsession. I laughed because oddly enough I had gotten a coupon for one of them with my receipt the other day. I gave it to him. He'll never use it, but I'm sure my mother will. In addition to the breakfast bites, he insisted on buying the organic chicken and stir fry veggies I was already buying. Then he decided that I need a pound cake and a carrot cake. OK, so this grocery store makes some of the most awesome cakes and desserts ever, but still. I'm going to go into shock! Well, maybe not. There are also hot dogs for Josh to eat. I did make my dad eat two of them, but that was it.

So, my fridge is nearing the point of explosion. Dad visits are always interesting. He knows he is welcome to come any time, but he really has to remember that he doesn't have to take my shopping every time he comes! Silly dads.

De-Lurk Myself

I've been trying to de-lurk myself on the websites I visit. I've slowly been filtering out the sites that I don't read that often and now I feel like my mind isn't all jumbled with everyone's posts. Now I can comment coherently.

I began working on the Yule ideas today. You know, eight years ago, I would have had all of my shopping complete. Our gift list was also over twenty people. I HAD to make sure I got good deals on the gifts. The list has dwindled a fair amount, so that is good. My side of the family only really celebrates the holiday for the kids, so we only give the kids presents. I always give my parents something, but that is usually more as a "thank you for everything you do for us" gift.

I scored a Sizzix die cutting machine at the local hospice "thrift store". They had no idea what it was, but I saw it across the store and knew what it was. I was a total dork and played with it for a few hours when I got home. I only have one die, but it is a useful one. I'll buy more eventually. You can buy them for as low as $0.99 online, so maybe I'll use my "birthday" money to buy some!

Speaking of thrift store finds. I scored a couple of baggies full of wool yarn scraps. Just enough for goofing off with. I also found an awesome rain coat. It reminds me of one that my great grandmother used to wear, except a bit hipper. It fits perfectly! I will try and get a picture of it, but we are brewing batch number three, so things are a little messy around here. Not to mention the painting grout cleaning and sealing that is also going on. I'm keeping busy in addition to my other certification related stuff. Time, what's that?

I never did find the filing cabinet I was looking for. I need a tall one for the garage. The store is near the place where they do the blood work so I strolled in. There is another one about a mile away. That one always has new (yes, never worn) designer clothes there. I've seen clothes by DG, Versace, Dior, and even some Armani at that store. Yeah, thrift stores have some interesting content around here. Rarely any yarn though. That depresses me.

Well, someone has just given me the cute look of doom and is now flopped on the table next to me so that her tail is gently thwaping my hands as I type. In other words, for my own sanity, I should probably go feed the cat.

Black

OK, a little more dvd related stuff. As much as I loved the show, it irks me that the one and only season of The Black Donnellys has been issued on dvd. The show had enough of a following I suppose. It is just annoying that they cancelled it and put on crap like that Joey Fatone show, The Singing Bee.

Oh My Goodness

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix... dvd... nuff said.

Fall Knitty

Fall Knitty is up. So far I like Muir, Neiman, Totally Autumn, and OMG... Woodins! How freaking adorable.

Entwined is an interesting concept, but I'm not sure if it is something I would knit for myself. Brittany would probably like it. Yule present?

I can't say this version was great, but it is a definite improvement from the past few issues of knitty.

Mad

Mother earth is mad. An 8.4 earthquake in Indonesia with more than ten aftershocks over 5.1! Not cool.

The cat is curled up and cuddling my leg. I know I got some of her catnip on my pants leg, but this is just weird. I move, she follows.

My allergies are acting up. My eyes have been itching since early this morning and now my nose is running. I think I am going to get my blood work done Monday or Tuesday. I tried last Friday morning and apparently Friday is when the retirement communities bus the folks to the testing center. At least that is what the woman there told me. When I went in, she let me know that I wouldn't be able to get in for at least three hours. I'm sure plenty of you have spent a bit of time near older/elderly people. Yeah, three hours of that won't work for me. I love and respect the older generation, but quite a lot of them have odor/hygiene issues.

Seeker

I finally paid attention to the commercial for The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising today and noticed something. The person who was playing the "dark" guy looked REALLY familiar. Lo and behold, I looked it up and it was none other than Christopher Eccleston. I remember the first time I saw him. It was on Cracker. I absolutely loved that show when I was younger. The next time I saw him was in Jude. After that I started seeing him a little more here and there. Ever since he was cast as the Dr. Who for the 2005 season, he's been everywhere! Not that I mind. He's a pretty good actor.

I just had to write about that little tidbit. That is all.

Brainicat

My cat sat down in front of the receiver and turned it on. Then she decided to plop down in front of the curtains, roll over and proceed to lick the curtain. She is an odd cat. Smart, but odd.

Thunderstorms are growing stronger. I should go. The cat has now crawled under a chair. Silly cat.

Beeeeep

So far I have experienced nothing more annoying than the sound of the smoke alarm letting me know the battery was going dead, at 2:58am. I slept miserably after that.

The news stations are buzzing this week. That's because this weekend is when the UCF Knights are taking on the Texas Longhorns. It will be the first game in their new stadium. There's nothing like the real threat of getting your butt whooped in your brand new house. I'll probably watch the game to see how they it looks.

Now I think we are going to try and figure out what is wrong with our thermostat.

Twenty

New HairOK people... I almost shed a tear, but it was for a good cause. I just donated twenty inches of hair*.

There has been some controversy** regarding Locks of Love. If you recall, I donated hair in March of 04 to Locks of Love, prior to learning of the practices of Locks of Love. This go around I knew I wanted to get my hair cut and donate it, but where would I donate it? A few nights of researching and I came across Beautiful Lengths.

What really excited me about them is that they are working with the American Cancer Society to distribute wigs to cancer patients. I was quite upset to hear that in most cases, cancer patients were denied wigs from locks of love. That makes miftik MAD! Grrr. /end HULK impression. Also, I liked that they will take eight inches of hair. That means more donations!

So, I don't have any pictures for now. I may see if someone can take some later. Either way, it is shorter than the previous time. Eeek. Eric, for reference, I have a six inch ponytail now. I may try to get a chopstick in, but it isn't looking promising.

* OK, it was closer to twenty one, but just in case they have to trim any ends, we'll say twenty.
** I've read about the controversy elsewhere, but that was the only site I managed to bookmark. It is quite informative.

Snifflest YouTube video ever. Dr. Who The Last Goodbye. sniff sniff

So say I found a pattern for a knit Tardis and perhaps a knit Dalek, would I be a geek if I knit said patterns? What if I wanted to convert said patterns into TP cozies and put them in the guest bathroom? I'm just pondering, that's all.

Perhaps I should go make dinner now.

Runaway

My VW attempted to runaway on its own today. Yes, I said runaway, on its own! Apparently it rolled down our driveway, turned into the road, backed into the bushes in our front yard and came to rest on the sidewalk. Our neighbor came and told us.

Holy carp.

Exactly.

It didn't hit anything except the bushes. Thank goodness no one was hurt.

faucet.jpgIn other news. I've got a new kitchen faucet! Josh and I stood in the faucet aisle and eventually narrowed the choices down to four. We finally voted on the Price Pfister Harbor faucet. We wanted one that would work with our filter but unfortunately it still doesn't work. Wah. We figure that just means we are destined to not use this particular water filter. It looks good. Now of course it wants me to redo the cabinets and counters. I mentioned to Josh about checking at the Habitat for Humanity ReStores for the cabinets or else for his brewing area we will eventually create in the garage. He spotted the bar faucet while we were looking for the kitchen one. I spotted the deep sink that would fit a massive brew pot.

In even cooler news, tomorrow there is a Dead Like Me marathon on Sci-Fi!
