OK, let's see. For the people searching for things in particular and getting my site:
1. There is no better version of "What is a Youth" than the original.
2. For complete lyrics to So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, please visit the official site's sing-along page.
3. They still make the Edy's Girl Scout Cookies: Samoa ice cream. The carton is now purple (formerly orange). Unfortunately I can't eat it.
New news:
Jesus in a Box - My first words... "We can clone Jesus!" You know, the church could bring about the second coming early and see what happens! Then they can either say, "We told you so." or "Aww sh*t, we're f*cked."
Oscars - I'm happy that some people won, but I don't think that they were necessarily the best this year.
My grandfather is seriously ill. My mom flew up on Saturday. I really don't know what is going on. I need to call her, but I always get her voice mail.
I discovered I live fairly close (7 miles) to an awesome state park. There's lots of swimming, snorkeling, cave diving, camping, biking and hiking. I'm hoping that once we get stuff done with the house we can actually go check it out.
I have a midterm this week that is requiring a lot of studying, so that's why I've been quiet. I'm still waiting on my discrete grade. Part of me feels OK. I know what I am doing, but I sort of cracked during the test. You would too if you had less than three hours of sleep and took the exam at 7:30 in the morning. I know I forgot to do a 5pt question, so I'm just going to have to wait and see. And that's all for now.
Lost Labels! I wonder if Josh will let me put beer ones on some of his homebrew.

I freaking finished. I actually finished about 45 minutes ago but forgot to put paper in the printer, then realized I hadn't put page numbers on, then realized my word count was in an awkward location. So, now it is stapled and in a folder, ready to be turned in. Final word count... 1,600 words exactly. At one point I had 1,733 and I hadn't even finished my conclusion. I took out my initial introduction and went with something completely different. I was able to make it just as relative, but shorter. It also allowed for a good and shorter conclusion.
Oh, in case you were wondering, the paper was about us discussing a theme we found in particular assigned chapters of Struggle and Survival in the Modern Middle East. The chapters had to do with women and their positions and roles in the community. I wrote about the role of education (formal and informal) in these women's lives and how it correlated with their level of power and influence in their communities. No, this isn't a Women's Studies class. It was just a good topic to discuss in a paper.
To be completely different, we're just now approaching the creation of Israel in class. Yep. I had to miss Tuesday's class, so I'm curious to see how the discussion went.
Wow. I'm sitting here writing my paper and haven't even made my third point much less my conclusion and I am already at 1147 of 1600 max words. Oh crap! I am going to just write until I am satisfied and then start trimming down as necessary.
I should mention that I started writing about two and a half hours ago. I don't know what has gotten into me, but I like it. I started around 11am (the view was coming on), took a 40 minute break to talk to my mom, take out the trash and recycling, and change the cat's litter box. So I have written that much in less than two actual hours. Sweet!
I just hope I am making sense.
Apparently my need to post links occurs during the times I choose to cook. Odd. Anyway...
Hollaback HeadHunter the Video - that's right. The song plagued my ipod for months as it was great for riding my bike at 5:30 in the morning, now here's a little something for your eyes.
Bjork's video for Play Dead - I loved when she did this song in concert, I have to find the cd somewhere. Maybe I should shop flea markets and garage sales. That's probably the more likely place to find it. I admit that I don't even watch the video. I like it for the song, no really, for the song.
YouTube took down the original link, so it now links to another copy.
There is massive pressure building up in my bookmarks, so I'm going to post them now before it explodes.
De clutter Your Desk - That's my kind of clean! I'd be willing to have our systems out of the office if they looked that organized. (Via A Whole Lotta Nothing)
Breakfast of the Gods - There be trouble in the lands of cereal. (Via Boing Boing I think)
Check your tax refund status online - Now I just need to submit mine! (Via the IRS)
Uh, that's it. My breakfast is burning.
Today is the day for the Daytona 500. Oh the pain the commute home will be for those people. Yesterday while coming home from getting some specialty tools for the car, we witnessed the traffic from those returning from the Orbitz 300. It wasn't a pretty sight. I'm just glad we were going in the opposite direction.
Josh is busy working on the car and listening to the race. How umm, American can you get. It keeps the mundane car work a little more entertaining. At least I hope so.
Oh, great news for all of you sock hole creators! About a month ago I discovered some bamboo and cotton socks. They breathe really nicely and are rather comfortable and just the right thickness. I've been pretty abusive to these things (subconsciously) and they are holding up beautifully. So, if you have a tendency to treat your socks like crap or have problems with holes or the like, give bamboo yarn socks a try.
I don't know if you can tell, but I'm avoiding something. I have a paper due Thursday, a homework due Tuesday, an exam on Tuesday and another homework due on Friday. I'm avoiding them. I managed to kill about 30 minutes by repairing a section of drywall I sanded out (on purpose). I also did a little more sanding in other spots and taped off the chair rail that is up. Yes, I am avoiding my work, horribly. I'm tired so doing homework will just make me fall asleep. I totally understand why so many college students are taking adderal. Then again, I'm just avoiding it because there are other things I would rather do.
Ugh. I just have to keep reminding myself that there is only one semester left after this. One semester left after this. That is unless I do another degree just to torture myself.
The cat had been pestering me for quite some time and I finally figured out why about five minutes ago. Apparently her water bowl was empty! I want to hook up her fountain, but I can't think of where to put it. At least I know she's concerned about getting enough water. Maybe that explains the whole sitting in the toilet incident.
Josh is in the garage working on the car. He ordered some new fancy pants parts rear brakes and is installing them. It's time for it's fix up, so I will just suffer through it. There was a slight bit of drama when we couldn't find the correct tool needed, but a quick to the auto parts store and something comparable was found. Let's hope it works well.
I took down the drapes, rods and accessories. We patched the holes in the wall and to provide some privacy, I've taped gift tissue paper up! The whole day I felt like it was snowing (it was raining and a little chilly). Now we have decided that we like the look. I'm going to start looking around for some rice paper shades. If I don't find some here, I'll probably just make my own.
Time to go check on Josh...
The real 24 episode! Too funny. (Link via fivedollarshake.net)
I've got songs from the Smiths stuck in my head. Actually one of them is a cover of Bigmouth Strikes Again done by Placebo. It is a little different, but good.
Side note, while trying to find a good site to link to for any of the Smiths/Placebo tangent, I found SecondHandSongs.com. It's a cover songs database. Good to know! You'll notice I didn't find anything really worthwhile to link to. Even wikipedia was lacking.
It is almost 9am and there is still a pretty decent amount of fog outside. The sun currently resembles a full moon. It's going to be one of those days.
I have returned from grocery shopping. I forgot my list, however, I managed to get everything that was on the list. I did discover while putting groceries away that we are missing a few things that never quite made it on to the list. I'll get them later.
In the car on the drive home, Peter Bjorn and John's Young Folks came on the radio and I started feeling sleepy. I think it was Victoria Bergsman's voice. She kind of reminds me of Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star.
My throat is sore and my voice is going out. Like I said, it is going to be one of those days.
I'm sitting here doing some homework in Engineering 2 listening to blogmusik.net and listening to my playlists. I just started busting out laughing at Lily Allen's "Nan You're a Window Shopper". I'm sure the ten other people in here think I am insane, but man it was funny, at least it is to me at 8 in the morning.
Here are the lyrics...
The Bottom feels so much better than the top
So much better (fade better)
(Chorus)
Nan you're a window shopper
Taking a look but you never buy
Nan you're a window shopper
You wont pick it up if it's over a fiver
Nan you're a window shopper
Get on the bus coz you still cant drive
Nan you're a window shopper
Mad as fuck only just alive
(Verse 1)
Get up in the morning and you like your tea milky
You fumble for your glasses coz without em you cant see
Its funny how I come round your house and im 20
And I still have to wear all the presents you sent me
I walk into your kitchen everything's got a label
You done your Christmas shopping and we're only in April
And you wont leave your house unless your wearing your thermals
Your covered all in cat hair and your stinking like Strepsils
Your heading down the Bowls Club
Have another orange squash
Bowls are rollin rollin rollin
You cant walk right coz things aren't what they were
Your ankles are swollen swollen swollen
(Chorus)
Nan you're a window shopper
Taking a look but you never buy
Nan you're a window shopper
You won't pick it up if it's over a fiver
Nan you're a window shopper
Get on the bus coz you still cant drive
Nan you're a window shopper
Mad as fuck only just alive
(Verse 2)
Walking down the post office to pick up your pension
And then your off to Bingo
Its become an obsession
So weary of the kids when their wearin their hoods up
And even if they smile at you, you think it's a stick up
You only buy the paper to cut out the coupons
Your saving 50p but what do you want with tampons
Your always at the doctor picking up your prescription
And they throw in some K-Y to ease up the friction
You got a leak in your colostomy bag
Yeah its got a hole in hole in hole in
At the weekend your shopping with your trolley
Its sad how your rollin rollin rollin
(Chorus)
Nan you're a window shopper
Taking a look but you never buy
Nan you're a window shopper
You won't pick it up if it's over a fiver
Nan you're a window shopper
Get on the bus coz you still cant drive
Nan you're a window shopper
Mad as fuck only just alive
I've been putting these things off, but I finally decided to do it. There are little things with the house that need to be dealt with and I have been dealing with them, slowly.
This house has had three sets of owners, including Josh and I. That isn't bad for a house this age. However, the first owners really showed their age in the "repairs" and "improvements" they made. The husband liked to have places to put things. There were shelves upon shelves upon shelves. The problem is, they are so darn small that I don't know what he kept on these shelves. We took them out, but it was a painful process. He was really into using butterfly/spreading wall anchors on everything. He made these larges shelves with apparently recycled screws, nails, wood and whatever else he could find. It wasn't bad, it was just interesting. It shows their age and that they were probably living on a tight budget. Unless of course the guy was just a tight ass about spending money.
What brings this entry on you ask? Well, I went onto the back patio to put another coat of paint on the top of the bookcase. The screen door to the patio has always had issues and they kept getting worse. But it seems that the original owner had ghetto-fixed the roller by using the old roller and drilling a hole into the base of the screen door and bolting it on. The old wheel was metal and rusted and not exactly round it seemed. I finally had it today, so I went to Home Depot and got four new wheels for the screen door and installed them. The door now slides beautifully.
I also picked up sample bottles of paint colors and rolled them on the wall. I really like the colors. They are a little on the spring side, but not in a bad way. We'll see how they look tonight and then make a decision on whether we want to do the whole room or try other colors. I think we need to bring the couch in to compare. But that's probably more me wanting to have the couch back where we can use it!
Well, we just had some horrible storms roll through. From the reports, a tornado passed through about five or six miles north of my interstate exit (it is said to have crossed the interstate). The cat woke us up around 3am and I guess she knew something was going on. Around 4am she started in again. I noticed the lightning had increased, so I turned on the TV and saw what was going on. I can't say that I really went back to sleep after that. I left about 45 minutes later than usual. I didn't get my usual parking spot, but I'll survive. /sigh
Ahhh, sweet justice.
Apparently the kids I have kicked out of my yard on a couple of occasions thought it fun* to climb in one of my trees and break some limbs, take my empty trash can from the curb and throw it into the street (today was trash day). They apparently thought it fun to take the lid and run away with it when our neighbor (named Rosa or something close to that) started yelling at them.
Little did they know, Rosa would be kind enough to let my husband know about the incident. So, having arrived home moments after Josh returned from speaking with Rosa, we followed the lead Rosa gave us and found our trash can lid** just around the corner.
No one was home and we didn't just want to take it. We wanted to speak with the parents. So,we went home and I got my camera. I went back and took a photo (from the street so as to not trespass) of the house with the trash can lid in view along with the house number. So I kept checking and checking and they didn't get home until about 30 minutes ago.
We walked over, in the rain and rang the bell. A short um, round woman answered the door. She seemed a little ticked that we were on her doorstep. She completely cracked me up (on the inside) when she went looking all around for the trash can lid acting as if she didn't see it at her feet. Maybe her belly was in the way, it was quite a round belly.
So, she called her son Tristan to the door and when he saw me he knew he was going to be in trouble. I kicked he and his friends out of the tree on two other occasions. I had heard him laughing in the house and when he turned the corner and saw me (I was positioned so he saw me before Josh), he stopped laughing and he looked concerned. I don't think he knew Josh existed, so that may have worried him some. He did the "Oh shit, talk down at the ground and refuse to look anywhere near anyone's face" thing.
I know that gesture well. I am more than accustomed to it. Brittany used it when she was younger AJ and Shalyn still use it. Gabriel just admits to it and runs away. He'll learn it. All kids do.
So, what will happen with Tristan and his friends? Judging by the actions of his mother and his actions, probably nothing. However, Tristan knows I know where he lives and he knows, Rosa is watching him and his friends. At least now I'm thinking a bit more about installing more cameras and yes Eric, possibly running zoneminder.
* They probably decided to do this when they noticed none of the cars were there. Tomorrow will be a test because I'm going to park my car in the garage and have the cameras up. We'll see if Tristan is dumber than dirt and tries to climb the trees again. I wonder whether I can legally put spikes in my trees, like they have for birds on store signs.
**The trash can lid has had dried gum of Josh's stuck to it. That's how we knew it was ours.
Someone want to explain why it is currently 82 degrees outside? Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 72 and Sunday's high is supposed to be something like 52. Weird.
I managed to get my homework done, though I'm not sure if it is how they want it presented. If not, I'll know for the next time.
I have an hour and a half to get my reading done for class. We're about a week behind, so I'm not sure whether to reread the stuff we're probably going over today, or whether to read the stuff that is scheduled for today, just in case. I'll probably skim over both. I read the stuff we are probably going over today, a little over two weeks ago. Sometimes trying to get ahead doesn't work so well.
Alright, I'm going to do my skimming now.
