Apple

So, a few weeks ago I was channel surfing and came across the MTV/VH1 Katrina relief thing. After getting over the weirdness of seeing Trent Reznor talking like it was an infomerical, I realized that the girl singing was Fiona Apple. She sang Extraordinary Machine from her soon to be released (Oct 4) album by the same name. You can check it out on myspace. Even Josh was impressed. I told him if the whole cd was like the single, I'd buy the album, otherwise I'll just purchase the single(s). I haven't had a chance to listen to the entire cd yet, but will make an effort to do so soon.

I've never been a big Fiona Apple fan. She's got talent, but I just couldn't get into her previously, but I really like this song. Strange.

I am off to go seam up a bookmark and then possibly start knitting a birthday present request.

Thoughts

For the HP fans...

There was/is a thought going around... Irma Pince = Im a Prince ?? possible ??

As I am going through all of the books again, I am starting to gather more thoughts. I'll post them as they come along.

There are some heavy things going on right now and rereading/listening to to the books is a welcome break from such things.

Clean no clean

Work work work. I've gotten some work done. Go me.

I went through to take out all of the shirts that were just too big for me now. After all of the work I ended up with three that fit properly. So, until I can find tops that I like, I'm going to have to keep the closet full. Why do I have to be so picky?

I really think I can finish Brittany's scarf this week. I'm on the decrease rows now. I'm only knitting on it for about an hour and a half each night. I think I'm doing pretty good.

No links for the masses today. I haven't been in the mood to surf much lately. I'm lucky if I even pull up my news reader. I'm just worn. AJ's birthday party was yesterday and that wore me out even more. He had fun and liked the walkie talkies I got him. The rest of my presents were just practical gifts like clothes. I didn't get him socks, but I did get him underwear. He's going to read this in 12 years and kill me! /grin Hrm, now that I think about it, I should have gotten him socks too.

Midnight wash

I've decided to wash clothes at this late hour. I don't know what possessed me to do so, but I am. I haven't washed clothes this late in years!! Oh how fondly I recall washing five loads of laundry (clothes and linens of course) at 3am, just because. Yeah, that's been a while.

I'm kicking butt on my knitting. I think I've just gotten to the point where I have realized I have a crap load of stuff coming up and need to get things that are just lingering, out of the way. Either that or it is the Autumnal Equinox. Let's say it is that. There is no need for me to go and be rational about anything.

I'm glad to hear that my Texas friends are well and safe. It was getting a bit frightening for a while. It is still not good for the people who got the direct hit.

Too much

As I was looking through the tv listings for right now, I found it extremely odd that SouthPark is airing in syndication and is to be followed by religious programming. I wonder what program director put that together.

A little more work is to be done and then I will either knit some more or sleep. I'm not sure which.

Frank

.... FRANK! .... Oh come on, you know you want a Frank mask. There is an entire costume up, but the quality is a little lacking.

Turtle

Well, early this morning our little talker of a turtle passed away. If you take a look at this picture, he's the one in the upper left corner or the tank. No more bright red ears within my communist turtles. I have buried him under the oak tree in the front yard. That should make the kids happy. I have to tell Brittany after school. She's stopping in before heading to a birthday sleepover tonight. Tomorrow she's going to go see The Corpse Bride with the rest of the sleepover kids. We had planned to go tonight, but due to recent occurences, we won't be able to.

Finished

While wondering and worrying about my friends in Rita's path, I sat and finished sewing together my Rogue pullover. I was trying to show the sleeve, side and hood all at once. Hence the odd photo. Yes, I wear my wedding band on my middle finger.

It is a little baggy everywhere except the chest. That fits perfect. The hood actually comes past my face, but that picture seemed to show everything in one shot. That also includes the boo-boo I made on my side cable. Oh well.

Mabon Baby

Merry Mabon everyone. Today is the first day ofAutumn. Enjoy.

Also today... Happy Birthday to AJ! He's a whole hand now, five. Good gravy, where did the time go? He's already gotten a new outfit, some HotWheels Rev Ups, and five dollars for being five.. He also had to show me the two dozen cupcakes he is taking to school. The birthday party is this weekend, but he is enjoying his day.

Too cute.

OK, Lost. Seeing as some folks reading this haven't seen it yet...WTF? Brother, this shit is wack. /end ghetto wannabe. I've got tons more questions. WTF?

I read spoilerfix.com (don't click that unless you want to read spoilers) and now I am extra anxious to see next weeks. Damn you people! Invasion was ok, but inaccurate in terms of the hurricane. Tonight I will probably not watch much of anything. I may catch CSI, but that is it.

Hood grafted on Rogue. She's coming along quite nicely.

Do Do, Do do

So uh. Yep, it is pouring outside and windy! The first of the feeder bands arrived. I am waiting for it to stop for a while so I can run to the post office and then bring in the 75 gallon fish tank that had been drying outside. So much for it actually drying. The first bit of rain came through before I woke up. Darn it. I just don't want it to fill with water. That would be a pain. We are giving it to our neighbor. His fish had babies and they are growing like mad.

Weird dreams last night. I really have to stop listening to the Harry Potter books before falling asleep. I ended up dreaming that Voldemort had a foot fetish and that was ultimately his downfall. I think maybe the cat was messing with my feet trying to wake me up. Otherwise, I have NO idea what that was all about.

I finished Rogue. Well, for the most part. I have to piece together the hood, block the body, sew the arms in, weave all of the ends in and probably block again. Then I will be done.

Check Check

So Rita (I wanna say Skeeter) should head over the southern part of the state, but if mother nature has taught us anything it is that she does what she wants when she wants.

Gas tanks full? Check.
Generator full? Oops, gotta fix that.
Water? Check.
Food? Check.
Flashlights? Check.
Battery operated radio? Check
Batteries? Check.

Today started off good. I got plenty of knitting done. I have a wee bit of a sniffle and a cough. Then my mom called and asked me to come to her shop to help her. She's sick and could hardly talk. She'd scared too many customers away after only being open for two hours. Poor mother.

I saw the Seasons of Love trailer for Rent (the movie, Yay Jesse Martin) and I have had the song stuck in my head for a few days.

On a sad note. I've been avoiding writing about it, but one of my adopted turtles is sick. He's been quarantined from the other four and I have been spending plenty of time with him trying to get him better. All I can do is hope and know we did what we could. Tonight he was crawling and climbing everywhere, but he is still sick.

Get it free

So there is this ad on Yahoo! that says "Start now and get a free complimentary Paul McCartney CD." All that keeps running through my head is the sound of Paul McCartney telling me my hair looks nice today or that those are nice shoes. /sigh I told you I had a cold.

I gave in and rested restlessly last night. I tried to sleep but I kept waking up constantly. Then this morning I decided to clean the bathroom, toilets and all. Yep, really sick.

Wait, it gets better. After finishing the bathrooms, I cleaned myself up and proceeded to defrost the mini fridge's freezer! The defroster didn't defrost it all the way, so I came to its rescue. After that, I cleaned the litter box of horrors.

Three bags of trash and two new toilet seats later, I am here. No knitting since it is all cabling that requires concentration.

I try

I tried and tried, but alas I was not able to shake off this cold. I suffered with minor symptoms for a while, but now it is a full on cold and it sucks. But in happier news...

We bought Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy today and I will watch it later with Brittany. They also had Lost, but they wanted twice the average price for it! I've paid attention enough that I will wait!

I have started the hood of my Rogue. Go me.

Focus

What have I been doing lately? Knitting. It seems to take my mind off of the migraines I am suffering from. I finished the back shoulders of Rogue last night. I thought about starting the front, but decided against it as I was starting to feel worse.

Our internet connection has been a little dodgey lately, so if I have not responded to an email, you'll know why. With all of the rain (and potential rain) from Ophelia, they haven't rerun the line that is now perched atop my back fence. The power company has come to mark the ground for the cable folks to dig, but no actual cable company people have come out lately.

There is hope this week. Tuesday, Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy comes out on DVD. I hope to purchase it and enjoy it. I searched last week for Lost - The Complete First Season, but I couldn't find it. Maybe this week?!

Disappointing

Well, I'm a little disappointed in the Fall 05 knitty. The only thing I may knit from it is Bubby the bear. I do like Revolution, but it is not something for me. /sigh

I'm tired, but Ophelia has got me pondering. There is a low out in the Atlantic that could very well send it back here. I mean, these gloomy, windy, Dementoresque days aren't so bad, but I don't want a full on hurricane whip at my door.

Sleep, No

I am supposed to be sleeping right now, but I can't. I'm tired and I feel slightly feverish. AJ is sick and I am sure he has passed it on to me. I've been helping him "study" enough lately to make it quite possible.

I finished listening to the audio version of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I only listened to it while knitting. I am getting more knitting done while listening to audiobooks. I've decided to start over with the Harry Potter books and am about halfway done with The Sorcerer's Stone. I've also gotten pretty far on my Rogue as well. I may finish it before October at this rate. When I finish all of the Harry Potter books, I think I will start in on the Artemis Fowl books.

Hrm, strange noises out in the backyard. Off I go to investigate.

Administratium

Via LJ Ubergeeks

Investigators have discovered the heaviest element known to science. This startling new discovery has been tentatively named Administratium, chemical symbol Ad. This new element has no protons or electrons, thus having an atomic number of zero. It does, however, have one neuron, 125 assistant neurons, 75 vice-neurons and 111 assistant vice-neurons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by a force called morons. Since it has no electrons, Administratium is inert. However, it can be detected as it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. According to scientists, a minute amount of Administratium causes a reaction to take over four days to complete when it normally happens in less than a second.

Administratium does not decay but instead undergoes a reorganisation in which a portion of the assistant neurons, vice-neurons and assistant vice-neurons exchange places. In fact, an Administratium sample's mass will actually increase over time, since with each reorganisation some of the morons inevitably become neurons, forming new isotopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to speculate that Administratium is spontaneously formed wherever morons reach a certain concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as the Critical Morass.

Ophelia

So, sometime tomorrow we should have a tropical storm dropping rain on us. Actually it has been dropping rain on us for days now, but tomorrow it is supposed to graduate from elementary storm school and go to middle storm school. Upon its graduation, it shall be dubbed... Ophelia. Such a lovely name.

I recall a summer session of college where we were forced to stay indoors because of a tropical storm. Since we had lost cable, we were all getting quite bored, hungry and restless. After about five hours, one of the girls restorted to calling the other dorms asking for assorted people. You know, Amanda Huginkiss, Seymore Butts etc. Yeah, it got bad. At least we didn't lose the phones or electricity!

I was just thinking about that and thought I should post it.

Odd day

So far today has been a very odd day. It started out with my inability to sleep. No, I am thankfully not suffering from insomnia. I am suffering from strange cat syndrome. (Um, on my first go I typed that last sentence mostly in Italian. Seeing as I don't remember much Italian... WTF?)

It started around 2AM. I was going to take a nap after getting some knitting done. Skittles was sound asleep and doing fine. Not two minutes after I turned off the lights she started playing with things in the room. So, I put up with it for a while. Then after being too frustrated to sleep, I decided to just do some more knitting. As soon as the light went on, she went into her bed and tucked in to sleep. WTF? We went through this a couple more times until we were both just too tired to care.

So, after getting my two hours of sleep, I wake up to find my niece cleaning the kitchen sink with a sponge and about a quarter of the detergent gone. I just couldn't ask. If she wanted to clean the sink, by all means, I won't stop her. However, I would have preferred she clean up the pile of toys she had on the floor.

Later, Josh and I decide to go to the store. We weren't sure if one store was going to have what we wanted, so we went to the "left-side" of town. There isn't really much over there, so we rarely go over there. We pulled into the grocery store parking lot. As we started walking up to the doors, I looked up and saw that it was no longer Albertson's. It was now an ethnic (mostly geared towards Latin American) food store. WTF?

So, we decide to go across the street to Publix Supermarket. Jokingly, Josh and I said we should check to make sure they are still there. So we look. Geez, the sign is too obscured by that tree. As we approached the light we see the street side sign. That Publix had been converted into Sabor Publix. The Publix store geared towards Latin Americans. WTF?

So, we said screw it and went to the regular old Publix. We know it is there and hasn't changed. It is a little farther away, but at least they are clean, organized and not Wal-Mart. There is also an Albertson's near there. I guess we'll have to stick to them after all.

Now, while in the frozen food section of Publix there is a guy who keeps looking at my back. I made a turn and he craned to keep looking. Come to find out he was trying to read the band list on my shirt. I am wearing my Lollapalooza shirt (The first one, in 1991 with NIN, Jane's Addiction etc).

When we got home we saw our neighbor parking his van on the street. If you knew my neighbor, you would know this was odd. I made a comment that I had seen the car that he wanted and he said, "It's in my garage." I couldn't figure out what he meant and then all of the sudden it hit me. He had just bought a Dodge Magnum.

Being the good neighbors we are, we went over to see it (I went after I put the groceries away). Now, considering this neighbor is well... older (collecting social security already), we had to help him figure out where everything was. He's a riot to begin with, so this just made it better. Of course we also had to go for a car ride. He loves this car. He's been itching for one for months now.

He dropped us off at home (next door) and then he and Josh proceeded to talk plane stuff. Silly boys.

Twelve hours of odd occurences. Does anyone else have days like this? Mine are becoming like this far too often.

So a few (dozen) trace routes, there is somewhere on level3's network causing some serious hanging when trying to access some of my sites and a few others on different hosts. Ugh. It's like a pothole in a one-lane road.

I've upgraded to 3.2. I'm hoping this posts without problems.

I should check my stats more often. I just noticed that my crafts blog feed gets more pulls than anything else. Strange days.

Time for food. My stomach is growling.
