So a week or so ago, Calhoun linked to the Weathernerds' LJ. I've been reading the feed since. Today someone posted a link to these gorgeous photos of the inside of Katrina. So beautiful. So devastating. I had to post links.
I had an epiphany the night before last. I think Sadam did have WMD. You see, I think he had Stewie's See-N-Say weather machine and now it is in some child's hands. Look at the hurricanes we've been having. A kid found it and has been playing with it and that is why we have had these hurricanes! Right?
Yes, I know. I'm totally losing it!
For those that don't read my crafty section, I finished the first sleeve to Rogue, so Nhahh :P
I had to distort the color to get a decent picture. My camera is being extremely strange. If I want to get a really good picture, I have to set everything manually. If I wanted to go through that then I would just use the 35mm one!
I guess I'll be adding a new camera to my wishlist for my birthday!
Well, I know what everyone was doing when we were going through the hurricanes. I feel so sorry for everyone and I know how terrible it will be.
I've been on a cleaning spree. I cleaned the litter box at 7am. I wanted to get it in the trash before the trash pickup. Thankfully, he came later than usual and I made it to the trash bins three times before he picked everything up. Go productivity!
I also cleaned out my purse. Here is where I admit my slight obsession with office supplies. In my purse I found:
4 Sharpie markers (1 of which was a double ended Sharpie)
1 Yellow Hilighter
6 Ball point pens (1 in red, the rest black)
2 Fancy gel roller ball pens
1 pencil
1 maglite flashlight
1 Swiss-tech utili-key (knife and screwdrivers)
1 Spyderco Ladybug (mini very sharp knife)
1 Leatherman Squirt (plier, screwdriver, knife, etc)
1 mini notebook
1 cell phone clip
1 camera
Then there is all of the regular crap, wallet, phone, pda, etc. I really need a smaller purse. Maybe then I won't carry around so much crap!
Well, Katrina is currently a category 5. If there is anyone left in New Orleans during this, they'll be dead or swimming with alligators when it is over.
It will probably take this storm to get people to realize they really need to prepare for hurricane season. As much as they think, "Oh it won't come here" it will. So people, be prepared.
Last night I was getting irritated with my Shuffle. Yes, I've had it for a few days now and it has irritated me. Go figure. For some reason it was skipping some of the HP6 audio files that I had transferred over. It wasn't set to random and I had them in the playlist. They even showed up in itunes when I plugged in. Alas, I retried three times to get them to play but they didn't.
Then this morning after I woke up, I was hit with a flash of brilliance. File names. I looked at the file names on the shuffle drive and noticed some had the same name. Could that have been the culprit? Well, very possibly. I renamed the files with numbers only and now they are all there and playing. Weirdness.
Now, because I told Josh I would do this...
After showing him how I wore the shuffle last night while knitting (in my ponytail), he said "That's so geeky. I love you." I thought it was quite practical.
Oh and one other thing regarding the shuffle. As I had already heard, the headphones SUCK. After about five minutes I put on my little clie headphones. I need to find another solution for when I am not wearing the shuffle in my hair. I obviously can't use the clie's remote with this, so the length of the headphones' cord is quite short. I wonder if Josh will let me get those Bose ones I saw. Not.
Guess what arrived yesterday? The shuffle. I was patient and waited until the battery was fully charged before loading anything on it. Of course I loaded the audio version of HP6 on it so I can listen while knitting. I also added The Killers on it. Josh was playing with it last night because instead of being on chapter 9, it was on one of The Killers songs.
The Fed Ex guy is so going to hate me on Monday. I've got four boxes coming. Three of them are full of batteries for the battery backups. Eek. The fourth package iis a new HD for me. Josh is concerned by the sound coming from my current one.
The UPS guy will be coming with a tiny bit lighter package consisting of a new tape drive. Unfortunately the one I had to return must have been unfixable because they refunded me the money for it. Therefore, we purchased another one, but from elsewhere. I had asked for an exchange but I guess they were out. PLEASE let this one come and work. PLEASE.
I started working on Rogue last night. I'm just trying to get a feel for the pattern, so I am doing the sleeve first. If I mess up, I won't feel so bad about having to frog some of it or even all of it.
I was getting an error when posting, so I thought I would test it by posting this.
Hello Katrina. We're getting the little bands right now. We're expected to have rain for the next few days.
In other news... How much do you think I would have to pay AJ to get him to wear an Oompa Loompa Halloween costume? I know he wants to be Obi-Wan or Robin (from Teen Titans), but come on, wouldn't it be great if he was an Oompa Loompa?
I wonder how many guys want their girlfriends/wives to dress up as Wonder Woman?
Can you tell I got my buycostumes.com catalog today?

Josh and I lost a friend yesterday morning. It was very sudden and has been a reminder that anything can happen to any of us.
Aa' menle nauva calen ar' ta hwesta e' ale' quenle.
Namaarie John.
I have a ton of books and damnit, I have the time. I'm going to start studying and getting this crap down.
I also need to redesign what I have dubbed my testing domain. It is really just my main hosting account with all of the space. I use it as a testing area for client work before I move it to their live servers. I figure I ought to actually put together a portfolio site and I could easily use that domain since there isn't really anything else there.
So, in a few weeks I'll either be posting a lot or a little. It all depends on how the learning and knitting goes. I'm determined to start and finish knitting Rogue before Winter!
Well, there is a much better version of the international HP4 trailer out. The site is in French so you will need to either guess or translate/read to get through.
The Maytag man will really have nothing to do soon!
OK, it is guilty pleasure confession time.
I have and listen to often, The Killers CD Hot Fuss. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure why, but it reminds me of middle and high school.
Other than that, I've mostly been listening to Death In June, Dead Can Dance, The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Soundtrack, and The Corpse Bride Soundtrack. /sigh
I'm so bad. I left Firefox open to emachineshop.com on Josh's computer. He woke up and found it. He asked me what it was, with eyes wide. Josh has been looking for someone to machine some parts for airplane engines and I thought they would be an alternative if he couldn't find anyone locally. This could be a bad thing.
The CEO writes the company blog which reads more like a tip blog. Hhhhaaaaww, they are doing rubber molds too? Crap, I could be in trouble.
Well if today wasn't a flashback to 15 years ago, I don't know what was.
I spent today at my dad's shop. He wasn't feeling well and I thought that since Josh would be away today, I might as well help my dad. So, I swear I did everything I used to do when I was 12, except for the addition of getting a bit of knitting done. I cleaned the shop, did a little paperwork and sold stuff. Go me!
Of course my dad being just like me, he had to "do something" so he went to a couple of Halal stores in a quest for jerk sauce, veggies, and other odds and ends. I have a feeling I am making jerk chicken sometime soon.
My dad isn't feeling 100% better, but I REALLY want to spend some time with my husband tomorrow. This week was completely out of whack, so we haven't been able to spend a lot of time together.
I've been trying to be more excited about my little shuffle coming, but honestly, I am more interested in the current status of a tape drive I had to send back. It arrived and after unwrapping the antistatic foam, a few pieces fell out of it. I am guessing it is something that probably occured in shipping, but who knows. I am hoping that they can send me something to replace it. Wah, whine, whine... Anyone have some cheese?
For you Mary...
A kid is busted in the WoW forums for being up past his bedtime... by his mother (post #5). She happens to play and post there as well. Tee hee hee. (link via LYD miniblog).
There is an international trailer for Goblet of Fire floating around. It's not great quality, but it has more scenes than the one we've seen in the US. I love the dancing scene in the great hall. I think I am more anxious about this movie than I was for any of the others. From the trailers I have seen, it seems much more appealing to me.
I managed to catch up to my list of things to do and now only have one little new addition and that is for a pro-bono site. I may have to wait and do it tomorrow. I am tired, really tired.
I forgot. I decided on and ordered the 1gb shuffle (thanks to Lisa and a customer at my mom's shop). It will arrive by the end of next week, which is ideal. I really don't have the time to play with it until then and I know I would be tempted.
Well, it would seem that the lack of internet last night and cable yesterday was due to something wrong with the cables near our house. Actually, it would have to do with something wrong in the line in the area that must not be named.
But, they have temporarily run a line from the main box to the corner and now we are zipping along. I'm getting ready to see if some of the channels look better.
Because of all of this, I am slightly delayed in getting any work done. /sigh
The cat is being extremely cute tonight. She's asleep in her bed making her deep sleep noises.
I'm doing better today. I'm not wanting blood as much today, but I am still in a pissy mood. And no, it isn't hormonal!
I'm still debating whether to finally buy an ipod. I'm thinking of doing more walking and biking, so I will need to listen to music.
Here is my current thought process:
My clie still works great but being so hot outside, it is only practical to carry in the winter when I am wearing a jacket. So, I am thinking about the ipod shuffle. It is small and light, so I could carry it with no problem. Next of course is the issue of 512mb or 1gb. With the way prices are going, I might as well just get the 1gb right? But then I think that I might as well fork over the extra bucks and get the mini. Then again, I could just fork over the rest of the money and get an ipod photo.
Of course I haven't looked into the weights of anything other than the shuffle. I'll look into that next.
So there we have it. What to do, what to do...
Gas prices... hrm.
Every day I am a little more thankful that we bought a diesel. Josh filled up a week ago and it was $2.33 a gallon. Not too bad. It also helps that we get about 50 mpg. We saw a jetta diesel for sale a few weeks ago and the next morning it was gone. Josh is still holding out for a diesel jetta wagon. I saw someone driving one a few days ago. It was a good thing Josh didn't see it. He would have been jealous.
I uploaded a few pictures from Shalyn's birthday party yesterday to my flickr account. Brittany added some to her account too. I love the ones of Gabriel eating the cake. He was going nuts. I have been trying to use my account a little more, but it is just easier to put them on my server.
Movie inventory for my day at my mom's shop... The Day After Tomorrow, The Muppets Take Manhattan, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Short Circuit. The Day After Tomorrow is just a tradition now, so I have to bring it.
Well Skittles has moved into her second sleeping area for the night which must mean I need to be getting to sleep soon.
I'd like to just post an "UP YOURS you effing you know what" to a wee group of nobodies.
I am not in a happy mood. Not even the potterpuffs could make me happy. I want blood and I want to be the one to spill it.
I am the best wife evah. Fear me!
Tonight, while helping my mother pick out a gift for Shalyn, I bought something for Josh. I already had it in hand knowing full well what the answer would be, but I called Josh anyway. I said, "Do you want a copy of Johnny Dangerously on DVD?"...
I would like to direct this to the distinguished members of the panel: You lousy corksuckers. You have violated my farging rights. Dis somanumbatching country was founded so that the liberties of common patriotic citizens like me could not be taken away by a bunch of fargin iceholes... like yourselves.
- Roman Moronie

Happy birthday Shalyn.
You may be seven today, but you will always be my little munchkin.
Please, someone. For the love of Bob.. help me. I'm loving these cute little toons, The PotterPuffs! They combined the fun of the Harry Potter books with the cuteness of the Powerpuff girls! Why hasn't anyone warned me of such cuteness? Why?
What's this? What's this?
There's color everywhere
What's this?
There's white things in the air
What's this?
I can't believe my eyes
I must be dreaming
Wake up, Jack, this isn't fair
What's this? ...
While at our storage unit, I decided to get my The Nightmare Before Christmas dvd out of storage. I'm "testing" it right now by watching it. So far it seems to be OK.
I think I almost died with the heat outside. I started cleaning out the garage and sorted things to go to storage. I think we managed to bring back half as much as we took. Josh decided to get the rest of the computers, a monitor and four of the APCs out. /sigh
We really have too much crap.
The knitting kitty is currently at... $345.13! This is after I deducted all of the books, yarns and patterns I have bought recently. Go me!
A fever has kicked in, so this probably won't be too long.
Josh is currently sound proofing his new computer case. He has already done the server and you can't even tell thing is on unless you put your ear to it!
She's back. Discovery has landed safely, though in California. I am going to miss the sound of those sonic booms. /sniff
Oh good grief. My flippin' throat is hurting now too. It started about four hours ago. /sigh
I have plenty of other things I would rather do, but instead I am tending to myself.
In other news, I discovered my dad's old camera and it is working fine after some 15 years. Manuals, lenses and the old camera bag were there. I let AJ and Shalyn look at it and both of them asked where the picture was. They have become so used to digital cameras that they weren't quite sure how it worked. So, the kids got an impromptu lesson on cameras. AJ loves taking pictures. I have an entire series of pictures that he took. I uploaded two of my favorites to my flickr account. Maybe he'll inherit this camera (and some of the even older ones) when he is older!
Well, I think I will go rest, knit, read or all of it!
My connection has been very flakey the past two days. At first I thought it was related to my host, since I kept trying to get to my sites. Then I tried other sites and couldn't get there either. I rebooted, I tried other machines and accessing some sites was still impossible, while others were smooth surfing.
So I am guessing it is probably dns related. I tried sites that I know are hosted in the same facility, but use different nameservers. Some worked, some didn't.
I will sit and wiggle my thumbs and hope it works tonight when I am feeling better and can do something.
Did I mention that my nose is stuffed and my ear hurts? Did I also mention that both of my siblings, their spouses, and children have all been sick within the past two weeks? I'm not as bad as them, but I am congested, dizzy and my ear hurts. I could be so much worse, so I am thankful it isn't too bad.
Wow. Peter Jennings has died of lung cancer. Holy crap.
I am currently being tormented by having to watch (well right now, listen to) Raise Your Voice. This movie is just more proof that Duff can't act in anything with real emotion. I'm sorry but she really hasn't improved enough to play anything other than playing a teen princess. Even then she is pushing it.
I've been humming songs from Grease all day. Why would I do such a thing you ask? Well, tomorrow is the first day of school! The kids are getting the last of their supplies. Nearly everyone is out of composition notebooks, so those I am told will have to wait until later.
Brittany is starting middle school (equivalent to Junior High for the northern folks) this year. She has seven classes and lunch. While she has to change classes, they are at least in the same area. Unfortunately though, due to the number of students in the school, there will be no lockers for her! They took them out because there just weren't enough for everyone.
Shalyn is starting her first year without her big sister in the same school. It will probably be a little scary for her at first, but she knows where most of the stuff is. She'll be fine.
AJ, is starting pre-school tomorrow. His birthday is past the cut-off date, so he will be starting a year late. If necessary, he could always try to advance a grade in the next few years. The thought had crossed our minds of moving up north for a few months to get him started and then transfer him back down here. He would have missed his mommy and daddy too much though.
While shopping for middle munchkin, I found a pair of shoes similar to those in the picture. There isn't a little bow, but there is a mary-jane style strap close to the toes. They are extremely girlish and not the strappy sandals that I want, but they will definately do.
I actually passed a shoe store and resisted the temptation to go in after already purchasing these. I saw another pair of shoes that I liked through the window, but I was strong.
Good gravy, I'm writing about my shoe purchases. Somebody stop me!
Time to check on Josh. I think he might be getting sick. This is not a good thing.
I've been trying to spend a wee bit more time with Josh in the mornings. The other day while we were picking up some things he needed, I forced him to let me look for sandals in two stores. Don't worry, he suffered for about a total of five minutes. I dislike shoe shopping, but I really need something that I can wear my skirts and dresses with. I retired my hippie sandals after the hurricanes. No matter how much you try, there is always a little bit of tar left on whatever it is you have tried to get it off of.
I am extremely picky about shoes. I will easily throw down $$ if I know I am getting something comfortable and great quality. This is why I own more than a dozen pairs of DMs and DM brand shoes.
I once owned what I swear were the world's best pair of sandals. I don't know who made them, but they were great. I could wear them every day for weeks and not have to worry about them smelling if they got wet, breaking from wear, nothing. They were beautiful strappy Grecian style sandals. They looked good with a dressy dress or good with a hippy dress. I loved them. I retired them after about five years. It was hard, but it had to be done.
So, I am on a quest to find something at least remotely similar, but I haven't had any luck. I keep finding these ugly-as-sin style sandals. I especially despise the strapless ones. There is only so much of that flopping sound that a person can take in a day.
Yes, my life is as exciting as this. /sarcasm
