Temperature check

Did hell freeze over and I not know about it? Senate leader Frist backs stem cell research. I mean, this is a good thing but you have to wonder.

HP: HBP related site

Ok, I've come across a good site regarding the theories from the latest Harry Potter book.

Warning! Do not click that link if you don't want to see spoilers. I used tinyurl to hide the url since that is a spoiler itself.

Curious

OK, so I am watching The Day After Tomorrow for the hundredth time (and it may literally be that many times) and I just thought of something.

Two of the characters are fussing over Nietzsche and yet a few minutes later (in the movie) they are discussing the Gutenberg bible. How do you not know what a Gutenberg Bible is, but know enough about Nietzsche to believe he was in love with his sister?

Alan

So many moons ago I was watching the Daily Show and Alan Cumming was on. Oh how I adore the man. I just about died when he mentioned that he was going to be releasing his own frangrance, appropriately named, Cumming. Check out the video.

I don't think I'll buy it just for novelty's sake though. That would be a waste.

In case the hubby hasn't seen it, Computer On A Stick. Something we need to make, a bike rack from pvc. A much smaller design than the one I was interested in making.

Wow

Umm, Charlie stopped. Charlie is my clock. I've had him for close to 15 years. Wow. I haven't changed his batteries in about five years. Holy crap. It happened either yesterday or today. I recall hearing him tick a few days ago.

I will go get him some new batteries now. I must note the next time he stops.

Registry

So this is neat. The federal government is coordinating a national sex offender registry. I remember when I had to sit and maintain a NH sex offenders registry by hand. We weren't allowed to have the database file, so I had to sit and type in every single offender into a database I created.

Every time a new list was released, I had to go through and find anyone that had moved or anyone that was new. This was pretty annoying. It usually took an entire day to go through and figure out who went where. Eventually I started to know people and their locations, so that made it easier.

It was dropped when I left my job, but from what I understand, some company started it back up. I hope they get less crap from the state than I did.

You know, that was the only time I didn't feel guilty about using tables.

Clean This

So here's my problem... No matter how many filing cabinets I have. No matter how many shelves I have and no matter how many organizing products I have, I always have at least one pile of papers and folders on my desk. Currently, I have three with a fourth one within sight.

It is just so much easier to put a sheet of paper in a pile than it is for me to find the proper folder and file it away. The folders on the desk are for projects or clients I am working on currently. It is easier to have those in a stack than to find them in the filing cabinet.

I like the ideas they have on shows like Clean Sweep, but time just doesn't allow for the proper filing of papers every day.

On that note, I suppose I should try to sift through these piles and possibly put some of them up.

Hmrr

My arm, I think it is getting better. Oh, the joy. I may begin to knit by August!

I think the healing is mostly due to getting everyone to help me. My mom has gotten my brother to do the yard work since it happened. The yard really needed a trim. I've been getting help with dishes and yesterday I taught my sister in law how to make roti dough. My dad has gotten on this kick about having fresh roti (thanks Kash) with just about everything and apparently I make it better than mom (you didn't hear that from me). I can make the dough with my left hand but someone else has to turn it into actual bread.

To let you know just how pathetic I am, I have been getting help to put my hair up in a ponytail. No Kash, it wasn't a recreation of that afternoon where Shalyn and Amaani decided to do my hair and makeup. Note to self: Never let kids do your hair and makeup. You end up looking like a clown with Bjork style hair.

You thought I was whining because I'm a wimp? Hell no. I have a huge tolerance for pain, but this crap hurts. I will be so glad when it is better and I know all of you will be too, right?

Silence covered the sky

There are no quiet nights in this house. At least not while the turtles continue their plot against me. Every night you hear the gentle tinking of the rocks against their tank. If you are lucky, you will hear grawping from one of them.

No, they aren't trying to be cute. They are plotting against me. This I am sure of.

Dealing with Owies

So the elbow is still bad. My activities have been limited and that sucks.

My little Lassie of a cat ran to get Josh after I knocked my elbow into the doorknob and told her to get him. I think it was the dramatic drop to the knees that caused her to do it rather than me telling her to. It really frickin hurt.

Ahhhhhhhh

I was having a great day. My arm is all doctored up and it was doing fine. About an hour ago it starting hurting like hell! Ugh. I have taken some medicine and I hope it helps. I haven't really done anything to make it hurt, but who the hell knows.

Had my arm not started hurting as bad as it is, Brittany and I were going to do a movie marathon so that we can stay up all night and sleep all day tomorrow. We plan to start reading the book immediately. I think she'll give in and fall asleep. My brother and I are trying to figure out who gets killed off and who is the half blood prince. Even my sister in law is getting into the mix. There really isn't all that much to do besides speculate until just over 24 hours from now.

To sleep with me.

Space Camp

Space Camp With all of the shuttle talk, I have been having a bit of a flashback fever lately. When I was a young girl, I attended one of the first sessions of Space Camp at the now closed Titusville location.

I remember that we had to stay in the Howard Johnson's because the dorm facilities hadn't been built yet. Darn it. I wasn't old enough to attend the one in Alabama at the time. I imagine that would have been even better.

I remember running into a fence with one of the rovers. Oops. No steering wheel, just a steering stick. I guess it is somewhat similar to some of those riding lawnmowers you see.

I still have my ringer tee that I got and am probably still able to wear it. I was able to wear it about 6 years ago and I can wear most of my clothes from then. I still have my certificate of completion too. Long gone are my little keychain medallion. Sadly, we got it for having the cleanest rooms.

In my group there were three boys and five girls. Two of the girls were best friends and two of the other girls were more than slightly annoying. They insisted that they had to use my alarm (I was the only one to bring one) because they needed at least an hour to get their hair ready. Did I mention that this was when HUGE mile high bangs were just starting to become trendy? Oh how I am glad I never gave into that hair-don't.

I enjoyed the activities and fun things they had us do, but honestly the pre-teen prisses annoyed me enough to not want to attend again. At least not if I couldn't pick my roommates!

ELF Weekend

OK, so remember me mentioning there was going to be a LoTR convention close by, but not wanting to attend? Well, I think I could be convinced to attend now! Paul Badali is going to be there! I have long admired his work and would love to one day get him to do something custom. I know I won't be going, but it was nice to think about for a few minutes.

Also, new fondness for Alton Brown... See his July 11th entry regarding Tom Cruise and War of the Worlds.

Doing It Lefthand Style

I've injured my arm, well actually it is my elbow. I can't figure out what I may have done, but it hurts like mad. I have been doing almost everything with my left hand. I owe a few email responses, but for obvious reasons they will be slow in coming. I can type fairly well with my left hand only, but I keep hitting extra keys and having to go delete them.

OK, minor knit pick... I like Liv Tyler and all, but she her elvish dialogue sucked. Did anyone love how it just came out of Viggo Mortensen so smoothly? I wonder if his ability to speak multiple languages helped. I imagine it did.

Now in KnitPick news. My yarn arrived Monday.

The top shelf of the mini fridge is getting too cold. The Coke Zero was frozen. Good thing that is the only thing up there! I guess I need to turn the temperature down.

Edited to fix my spelling/space errors, good gravy were there many!

Ohm

Watch me as I channel my inner work-a-holic.

I finally installed a script on my parents' site last night. That was a miracle on its own. I have been avoiding it for a good year. I know that it will ultimately come down to me doing all of the work for the site and the sales. Yes, that sucks for me.

After getting the script set up I tried to go to sleep. Unfortunately, kitty would have none of that. I ended up sleeping a whopping three hours. Bad kitty!

I am going to try and get some more work done tonight. I've already gotten the LoTR trilogy (extended editions at that) set out and the first disc is in. Productivity will be my bitch.

Oh and for added measure, go and print out the Harry Potter themed crossword that ran in the NYT today. (link via Kris) My only problem was spelling 13 down correctly. We finally just looked it up when it was all that was left.

Celebrate

As we all know or should know, in less than a week the new Harry Potter book will be released. To celebrate this release, I think I may knit some new absolutely adorable PoA scarf bookmarks! Now, considering there will be at least four of us reading the book on the first night, I may need to make a few extra ones. I don't know if I have the right colors, but I'll adjust as necessary.

I was originally going to make banner bookmarks, but I'm not in the mood to try and graph out a Slytherin snake. I'll stick to trying to make these.

Slap

Bitch Slap! The first band of rain has arrived. The sky is looking so darn creepy. There are just normal clouds in the back and closer to me are these dark, mean looking clouds.

Josh better get his butt home. He's at the field for a meeting, but well, it's freekin wet out there.

I can hear my neighbor trying to put up his circular saw. He had been cutting something and I heard some wood being moved rather randomly. He's not always the brightest of neighbors.

When In Doubt

Charile and the Chocolate FactoryWhen in doubt, check out the soundtrack. I am loving the soundtrack for the upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie. The Mike Teavee song has portions that remind me of songs from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The initial songs are slightly different from your typical Elfman/Burton soundtrack, but not in a bad way. After the introduction songs, it swings right back to the classic Elfman style of music.

Ah Ha

When Josh went to the eye doctor, I went with him. One of the eyeglass ?sales persons? looked and acted like an actor/character I had seen, but couldn't place. Well, while making some tea, I remembered.

He reminded me of Ian Gomez. In particular it was his role on Felicity that this guy reminded me of. I only saw Felicity a few times, but he stood out in my mind I guess.

Anywho, I had to make note of this because it bugged me for a while trying to remember who I was thinking of.

No yarn yet. Forgive me while I pout. I know I was being overly optimistic hoping it would get here that quick, but a girl can dream.

Calhoun, go here (big .mov files) and check out Bjork's All Is Full Of Love performance at Live8 in Tokyo. There are some of R.E.M's performance as well. Bjork's outfit was, well, Bjork.

The Cone

Woohoo. The cone of probability has moved westward! Of course it has changed a lot in two days, but I am really not in the mood for any more hurricanes right now.

We went to the store tonight and guess what. Go on, I'm waiting.

They were out of water! Well, not completely. I spied a small stash. We really should have the giant five gallon bottles delivered, but running to the store is a little easier. We go through water like nobody's business in this house. We have a filter, but sometimes that just isn't enough.

Apparently it wasn't just lack of sleep making me tired. I've caught a bug. My nose is stuff and I have been battling a fever all day. Suxors.

I'm going to go charge the batteries for my camera. I've managed to use all of the batteries we have in the house and forgot to charge the camera's rechargeable ones. I need to take a picture of the sock's progress. I think it will be a footie. If I am going to make a pair, I need the entire second skein and won't have enough to go too far past the ankle. Oops!

SpongeBob

Best line of the day? "Is SpongeBob stupid?"

AJ asked this while watching SpongeBob Squarepants. We had to break the news to him that yes, SpongeBob is not very bright, but he is smarter than Patrick.

In other cute news, apparently AJ didn't want to eat lasagna for lunch so he was told he had to go outside and catch his own lunch. He did go out there, but couldn't figure out just what needed to happen. Poor baby.

I'm waiting for my yarn to come. I don't know if it will come today, but I can hope! The tape drive I bought last week arrived yesterday, after the UPS truck passed by four times. He was new.

Dennis' track has been moved a little closer than we would like. We're OK on supplies, except we could use more water and maybe some fuel for the generator. We need fuel for the lawnmower, so I may fill up an extra canister just to have on hand.

I had a scare this morning. One of my neighbours knocked on the door and asked if I had a tan cat. Yes, I do. I hadn't seen Skittles for a while, so I of course freaked out. I found her curled up in a ball in the recliner. She blends in, so it was a little hard to see her at first. I think it was Skittles' boyfriend* that was almost hit by a car in front of the neighbour's house. I would love to get a hold of that cat and take care of it, but it hasn't come near me in the six months I have tried.

*OK, so I don't know if it is a male cat or not, but it makes for good writing material when she has a two-timing boyfriend.

Worry

Status: Dad called this morning before I was even awake. The family is ok, but I am still worried about a few people in the London area.

I think my lack of sleep over the past few weeks is finally catching up to me. I "took a nap" and every time Josh tried to wake me up, I went back to sleep. I think he gave up after about four hours past the end of nap time. I guess sleeping four hours a day catches up.

knitty

Shiznit... I didn't realize the new knitty was out.

kumo, Andre, and Satchel are the only ones that are OK. It is an issue of mostly guy patterns, but since my husband is spoiled by fine (and very expensive) Italian wool, I doubt I will be making him anything from this issue

Now back to me watching the weather and finding out if we're about to get another freekin hurricane.

I suppose you think I'm going insane just to be fashionable?

The House of Yes is one of my favorite movies. Josh's sister got it for me a few years ago. I tend to watch it when I need some silliness. That was yesterday. Josh even got trapped into watching it.

It is a totally f****ed up plot (if there really is one), but funny as hell.

The sock goes well. The post office was busy. The lady in front of me had to announce that she worked for FEMA. Whoop-di-fucking-do. I just looked at her and rolled my eyes because there was absolutely no reason for her to speak.

I'm liking being able to see Garrett of G. Love and Special Sauce in the Coke Zero commercial. I used to make Calhoun play G. Love when we were in college and he worked at the radio station. I also made him play BT's Blue Skies (with Tori Amos). I don't think I ever had to make him play any Bjork. That was just inevitable.

Strange taste

Extreme Paranoia! I decided to actually have a Diet Coke, but for some reason it tasted off. It is almost as if it has no flavor. I think I'll just leave it to the side for now. If I die or become ill, we'll just put the Diet Coke on the top of the list of suspects.

Still more knitting on my sock. My fingers are either getting calloused or I am getting better at not hurting myself with tiny needles. Either way, I have finished the toe of the sock and have about three or so inches of boring knitting to go.

I am a good daughter. I just bought my dad the first two seasons of Threes Company on dvd. He has been asking me something or another about getting it on dvd for the past two weeks. I would have bought him all four available seasons, but I remember when I bought the entire 007 set. He wanted them, but never watched them. They are sitting there gathering dust. I should take them to his shop and make him watch them!

I'm bored. I should sleep, but for some reason I can't. I think I'll watch a movie and work on the sock some. That should be mind numbing enough.

What

You Knit What?

Hope everyone has a good fourth. I'm going to take a nap now. I'm tired and my fingers hurt from knitting with teeny tiny needles. Toothpicks are bigger than these things. I know, I checked!
