Painted toes

Senior munchkin and I painted each other's toes. I figured that was a safe bet. She couldn't take that the wrong way. I'm really not one for doing my nails, much less my toe nails. She picked a pale metallic green. I'd probably wear the color (without the metallic) on an article of clothing. I picked a deep red/pink. It matches the small flowers on a skirt I found her last week. She's going to wear that tomorrow.

Shopping went well for be today. I can actually remember everything I bought. A package of dish sponges (the current one is on its way to stinking something wretched), cat litter, coffee filters, and candy bars that everyone wanted some of. I was really looking for a melitta manual coffee maker, but couldn't find one anywhere around here. We can't justify using the big coffee maker if Josh is the only one actually using it, so we will just use good ole' little Mr. Coffee for now.

Thanks for all the fish

Spotted a Pagan Intolerance quiz over at Solitary Willow (a fairly new read for me). A good quiz, especially for a history nerd like me.

I feel like I have accomplished a lot this week. I finished the Skittles Cam conversion, including stuff for ads. I did a ton of yard work. I kept the house clean. I organized my craft related stuff. I actually planned out and swatched something for a new knitting project. I started on making some large knitting needles. Go Me!

Heading out to do a wee bit of shopping/browsing with my mother, sister-in-law, and the kids. Someone help me! Brittany is spending the night here tonight for some away from the siblings time. Right now, she's going through that stage in her life. It's rough on us, so we know it's rough on her, but sometimes.. Arrghhh. She takes anything we say and makes it negative. /sigh I don't know if I can handle this. According to my mother, I was never like this. Maybe I just have a better hold on my emotions than she does.

Busy little bee

I've been a busy little bee. I finished doing Skittles' site. Most of the site is valid HTML. The only notty sections are the ones where I'm pulling affiliate code for the pet stores. Meaning, mostly it is the review sections. Oh well.

I took a break and got the smaller side yard mowed. I also watched a little video on two handed fair isle knitting. I don't plan on doing any right now, but now I don't feel as intimidated by the idea. It was like how I felt about using double pointed needles to knit in the round, eeeek.

I think I need a nap now.

A splash of links

Meta Critic - Reviews from just about everywhere on just about everything.

Spider-man and the peril of Doc Ock - Oh my, I don't even want to think about showing this to AJ.

The MP3Blogs Aggregator - An aggregated feed of mp3 weblogs.

Cellar Door - A guide to Donnie Darko (and help with the website).

Thought

I have been wondering this for the past few days. Do you think they use Hunts ketchup at the White House? You know, on principle. I mean his opponents wife is Teresa Heinz Kerry. Just wondering.

I fubared the template for the sub pages of Skittles Cam, but I think I have finally fixed it. Oops. Always make backups of your backups. Now I have to start changing the files, again. /sigh

My day

Hi, I'm miftik and I'm having one cruddy day today. First I feel ill, the cable company still hasn't gotten its internet connection act together, winamp went nutso, and now my computer decides it doesn't like me anymore. This just all bites.

Though, the positive notes for today are:
- I sorted and stored all of my yarnage. I took a picture of most of it. Will post that later. I really should inventory it.
- I cleaned up the spare bedroom (aka the kids' room) since AJ will be staying over with us while his sisters are at a sleepover.
- I actually ate something without rushing myself!
- Josh came home a little early!

Mac that

After reading of the computer woes of Kris, I think she needs to make her own Mac.

Back to work. I finished cleaning, but am still at a loss as to what to do with that plethora of yarn.

Darn my luck

Ugh. I bought some pants today made of great fabric. So I just start looking at them and say to myself, "Hey, these look like they might fit me". So I go to try them on (yes, they fit) and look a little closer. Hrmm. Could that be what I think it is? No, it couldn't be. When in doubt, search the internet.

Holy carpet, I scored a pair of Gaultier pants for under a $1*. I don't plan on wearing them as they are really the stand/don't move/just be looked at kind of pants, but I haven't the heart to take them apart. /sigh I need to be lucky enough to find a Haute Couture dress or something!

Well, back to cleaning. I'm trying to figure out what to do with all of that yarn. My current stash is already overflowing. Eeek.

*I scour the thrift stores looking for yarn and fabric. The old people seem to die around here having not used their good yarns and fabrics. At least it is going to a good home when it goes home with me!

Wishful dollars

Fluckity, Fluck, Fluck! If there was ever a time I wish I had a few grand to just play with, this is it. Fluckity! I have found original movie reels of, The Geisha Boy (starring Jerry Lewis) and A Street Car Named Desire (starring the late Marlon Brando). There was also an original reel for what I think was Attack of the Swamp Creature, but I can't remember exactly. There was also a ton of Mohammad Ali and other boxing legends promotional material. I was inches away from purchasing some promos from The King and I (With Yul Brenner and Deborah Kerr) and a promo I think was for A Song is Born (starring Danny Kaye).

But, to satisfy my pain, I scored big yarnage. Umm, I got a ton of yarn. Much of it is acrylic, but strangely it is really nice. I got some wools and cottons as well. I need to get a picture of my entire stash, but below is what I got today.

Mother pluckers

People shouldn't bite the bloody hand that feeds them. Grrr.

This post does not apply to anyone who reads this. If you think I'm talking about you, you're wrong. This regards something I do pro bono. Which consists a lot of the work I seem to be doing lately.

Dread

Do you hate that feeling of dread you sometimes get? I have that feeling. I'm looking at the PSDs from the kitty's site and feeling some awful dread. I am changing the red to the new maroon, and it is taking forever. Positive note, I'm finding some images that look like arse and fixing them. Go me!

I've taken a bit of time each day and have been reading through... /gasp MCSE Training Kit. Josh has been nudging me to study and I am. It won't exactly hurt anything to get an MCSE.

Back to work. I have a lot of images waiting for me.

It's an anniversary

Happy, Happy, Happy Anniversary! 35 years ago today Apollo 11 landed on the moon. Because of this, we have learned it is not made of cheese.

Munchkin patrol early today. It's threatening to rain all day, so we'll be doing indoor activities. Brittany wants to work on her newspaper/zine, so I will get her started on that and the other two will probably just run around chasing each other like crazed lunatics.

Spoiled

My last knitting project (one of the super secret ones mentioned previously) left me spoiled. The yarn, as tedious as it made my project, was fine and soft. I am working up a mock up of something and I am using some regular old acrylic yarn that I have leftover. It's so rough and stuff.

It sucks that we don't have anyone other than Jo-Ann's selling yarn locally. It's at least a half hour drive to get to anything else and their prices are so high it is cheaper to buy online. /sigh

Judging by the emails and comments, I guess I'll just go with the way the mock-up is. Now to do the rest of the site. Oi Vey.

Posted by miftik at 06:37 PM

Mock Up

First things first. Is this not the cutest darn puppy ever?

Second, kitty's site mock up is completed (for the most part) and located here.

It is done in CSS. I need to install a Netscape variant to see how it looks, but it seems ok in Mozilla and I only notice one thing in IE. Correction, I fixed the one thing bothering me in IE. Just an off border.

I decided to stick with the idea of a red (or a shade of red) and twist it a little. It's been the same way for four years and I think it was due for a change. My favorite thing is the little image of Skittles. I took that picture yesterday while she was lounging in her poly-bed. She was just being so darn cute.

Well, we're supposed to get an afternoon and evening full of storms. I think I will try to get in a little gardening/yard work before it starts.

Do I go there

I'm stuck. I have this great idea, but I'm afraid to go there. It's for the kitty's site. It involves color. Well, a colored background. Would people be shocked? I don't know. I'm trying to do a little more. Ack, the fear. I'm also thinking of just going with CSS and no tables. What to do, what to do.

Maybe I will do a mock up and put it out for opinions. That means I need you people to comment, whether it is here or via email. I just need help.

Happy News

Now that we are back from that no-fun server hard drive failure... I have discovered that...

Pamela is having a baby! Sweetness! Lots of happy baby fun happening all around me. Congrats to you and Dale.

I am sorry to announce (to my family members) that no, the happy baby fun will not be rubbing off on me anytime soon!

Running out of fingers

It would appear I am running out of fingers. After the amount of weight I (and Josh) have lost, our wedding bands no longer fit on our ring fingers. We are now wearing them on our middle fingers. Today I have been having issues keeping it on my middle finger. That is my second biggest digit. I don't plan to wear it on my thumb, so I guess I'll have to go Frodo and wear it as a necklace or something.

Odd thunderstorms today. It seemed to rain sideways for quite a while. The windows were washed. I am glad I finished the lawn when I did because it rained about an hour after I finished the weeding.

I had intended on having AJ with me for a few hours this evening, but maybe next time. I was psyched to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas with him. I think he might like it. Brittany used to love it when she was two, but she can't remember it now. I know she'll remember the music when she hears it.

Moveon

I saw a reminder at glimpseofagrrl.com and wrote my letter. The form moveon.org provides is a good basis, but I urge you to add something to it. Don't let the politicians dictate how to run your lives. Be tactful and be honest.

Dear friend,

Congress is about to vote on amending the U.S. Constitution to deny marriage equality to same-sex couples.

Never before has our Constitution been amended to take away anyone's rights. Yet our Senators will vote on this amendment in the next 48 hours.

It's urgent that we speak up now. This hateful divisiveness has no place in America. Please join me in saying so, at:

http://www.moveon.org/unitednotdivided/

Equality in marriage is the civil rights issue of our generation. We can't let anyone, or any group, be singled out for discrimination based on who they are or who they love.

Thank you.

What have we here

Well, my yard work did not meet with too much success. Why, you ask? Because 1) The lawn mower needs oil. 2) It would seem my arm has decided to pretend it and only it is suffering from a seizure. I finished the weed-eating and I came in to get some water. My arm was shaking so bad that the water was sloshing out of the glass. It's been slowing down, but I am still not holding anything without using two hands. Typing this has been a bit of a challenge.

In cool link news, via one of the livejournal groups I read I discovered online how to knitting videos! Go forth and fear not the double pointed needles and fearsome sounding stitches.

Oh and I found Making Lego Bricks a while ago. Its a really nice pixel animation (mixed with actual video) to show you just how Lego bricks are made. Very cute.

Why

Blah. I can't find any place that will be playing the Donnie Darko re-release on the 23rd. I would really like to see it, but I keep getting the feeling that no one within an hour of here will be playing it. Blah. That is all. Back to yard work.

Oh yeah, well so what

Yes, I'm listening to Robbie Williams. I actually like Swing While You're Winning. I like Elvis too, gotta problem with that?

The car had complications during surgery, but a replacement tensioner was sought, found, and put in place. Now she's purring more than Skittles.

Under the Tuscan Sun, starring Diane LaneThe Sum of All Fears, starring Morgan Freeman and Ben AffleckI watched Under the Tuscan Sun and The Sum of All Fears. I liked them both. They aren't necessarily movies that I would buy for myself, but they are the kind that if someone gave them to me, I would enjoy. You know what kind I am talking about, I hope.

This post has been brought to you by a lack of sleep. Please sleep responsibly.

Links and commentary

Ok, so I was bored yesterday and was looking into looms. Then I started looking at knitting looms. Then I started looking at knitting boards. Then I started to think, "I can make a knitting board!". Then I found instructions to make a knitting board. Though it's rather fancy, it's still pretty cool. I think this might be something Shalyn (and probably Brittany) would like. They've really got the finger knitting down, so this may be the next step.

This is Blythe - Cool, but creepy. Devoted to the Blythe doll.

Tiny Mix Tapes - Music stuff. Hear about music you may not know about!

Ads

Ugh, even though I have a ton of bandwidth, people keep trying to steal the images from the kitty's site and it's pissing me off. It's usually the pet astrology section that gets the most theft. I've managed to cut down on them getting the actual image to show up, but it still screws with my bandwidth.

With the astrology section being so popular, I'm tempted to put ads up there. Just to bother some people. I don't know, I'm just irritated with people that do this kind of stuff.

In other news, I have decided to put Skittles' links into a database. I want to make some changes to that site, but I need to think of some more ideas.

Car surgery

Tomorrow Josh and I begin car surgery. Nothing is wrong with the TDI. It's just due for its timing belt change. It's a tedious process and I get to spend today studying how to do this process. We could have the dealership do it, but I would prefer to not give up my first born to have it done.

Today I am also planning out our spending habits. Josh and I are going on an expense diet. We want to save and, well, purge ourselves of all the extra crap we have. I've personally contemplated selling off /gulp ... some of my Nightmare Before Christmas stuff. I know I won't because I love it so, but it does take up a lot of space.

This weekend I organized and cleaned. I also watched the first season of Dead Like Me. I like that show.

Marlon

Dood.. Marlon Brando died? This is what I get for being extremely productive and cleaning up the entire house! Though he was one wacky man, he was pretty cool. I should watch The Godfather in his memory. Maybe I should watch The Island of Dr. Moreau instead though. Since it does feature the one and only Mr. Thewlis (now to be forever known as Professor Lupin)

Notty Knitty

Oh Mah Gawd... Even for those non-knitters out there, you've got to explore this month's Knitty. Well gee, at least now I know what to do with that extra yarn I have hanging around. j/k The only pattern that is kind of blah to me is the Iris one. It just looks, I don't know, ick.

Didn't realize how late it was, off to bed for me.
