I've missed my laser printer. Going back to an ink jet was difficult. I feel better having found my printer. I'm happy. I wasn't happy this morning when Josh and I went in search of it and found it almost toward the end of the whole freaking storage. I also wasn't a happy camper when I realized that we had forgotten to seal off the toner and that it was "all shook up" during the move. Gawd was it messy. I have to break out the carpet cleaner in a little while to clean up some of the mess. I managed to get the inside clean and then had the printer clean itself about 15 times.
What else did I find in my searches through storage? A whole crap load of clothes that will fit me! Really nice soft flannel pajamas. Not exactly something for the summer, but I guess I'm ready for winter now. I found a box full of printer paper. Josh found lots of his technical books (including one that he had bought again), and I also found more yarn. Lots more of that sweet wonderful yarn. There is a really nice soft blue wool that I may use to try to make a scarf for Josh. Getting the width is always my problem. I have yet to make him a scarf, so this may be just the thing. He has way too make knit hats for me to even think about making one of those for him.
We reorganized and relabeled everything so now we sort of know where everything is. I know where to find a ton of toys for the cat.
Oh, about the furniture. They came on time. They set it up and it looks good.
I'm bored. No, really, I am bored.
I went shopping with my mother to help her find some curtains. My brother and sister in law went too. We didn't find any curtains, but I went off and found myself a cute Bazooka Bubble Gum T-shirt. I tried it on and realized just how much weight I have lost. Holy carp. I look like a completely different person now. It's kind of weird.
Well, I'm sitting here waiting for the delivery people to bring my parents' new bedroom set. It's quite nice. I went and bought it earlier this week. I think they will like it. It's real wood, not particle board or mdf. It cost a pretty penny too, but it is something that should last.
I just heard the ice maker drop some ice and I thought it was someone knocking on the door. I told you I was bored. Even Skittles has decided to boycott entertaining me. I think that has something to do with my putting a baby bonnet on her last night. I found it and she was there. It was on for a few seconds, but it was still funny as H-E-Double Hockey Stick.
I'm hoping my mom will return with the muchkins. I've had the greatest idea! Water balloons! We have a ton of birthday balloons left, so I think we should use them! I was also thinking of letting them have squirt guns too, but I may hold off on that. I don't think I have enough for everyone to play. Hrmm.
I should have fainted, not once, but twice today! First, Brittany made a little avatar and then she... posted it! Go on everyone, gasp. Second, while watching Return of the King (again), she got how to knit! She finished two rows and was so excited. Now we're getting ready for the arrival of my mother. Her plane is twenty minutes early, so Josh has to hurry to go pick her up.
I found this nifty little avatar creator from Viva, over at snye.net. I can't get the hair and face structure just right. It is close enough though.
If you can't see it properly, it's because I was testing this entry using css to avoid an evil image stealer.
Krispy Kreme to Make Low-Carb Doughnuts.
Millions across the South have just fainted.
While I'm not a big fan of sugar anymore myself, there are just some things you don't mess with. Krispy Kreme doughnuts are one of them. Depending on whether they cut the sugar or the refined flours or both, will say whether I will start eating them again.
I've been able to drastically manage my blood sugar level since cutting out sugar completely. I always had a problem with keeping my blood sugar level up. Now my body is managing itself and I can evaluate my situation to tell whether my level is low
I think most of my friends will be willing to give up these CARBs. These are carbs we really could do without. (link via web-goddess.org)
So I have a problem. I seem to have formed an informal Stitch N' Bitch type group. We sit around and knit, sew, finger knit, and embroider. I can't call it a Stitch N' Bitch though. You see, my fellow crafts-folk are all under the age of ten. I've been trying to teach them all how to do these fun little things and now when they are all together, they sit and talk about school and life. It's a great way to get an idea of what is going on in their lives, without pressuring them to actually tell you.
So, my problem is that I need a more appropriate name for these gals' little gathering. I was trying to think of craft/activity things that rhymed with blab. Any ideas?
Well, I'm off to watch some Return of the Kings with Munchkins #2 and #3. #1 is going to work with daddy today.
Sunday an elderly man complimented me on my English. What he said was, "You speak very good English." Trying not to want to give this old guy a "beat down" I said, "What else should I speak, Pig Latin?" Of course he assumed that I spoke Spanish. The only thing I really know in Spanish is how to say, "I don't speak Spanish" and my numbers. I would probably learn more if I watched Dora the Explorer more, but that girl gets on my nerves after about five minutes. After I chastised him for his assumptions, he held his head down low and left with his tail between his legs. OK, so not really, but he did feel pretty stupid for making such an assumption.
Josh is sick. He's all stuffy and may not get to go flying tomorrow (sin!) We may even postpone buying LoTR:Return of the King until tomorrow morning! /gasp! He looks and sounds that bad.
I've been doing a massive inventory at one of my parents' stores. It sucks and my hands feel all icky afterwards. I've got hand cleaner though. We're doing this because my mom isn't here and it is the only time we can! She will be returning on Thursday.
And that is the weekend update.

So apparently yesterday the guys that rent the house next to our neighbors across the street got raided. Dude, it's suburbia!!! Josh came in from a trip to the flying field and asked me when it had started. Apparently I missed all the real action. Those three people in that picture are city officers. I didn't get any of the DEA guys with their face masks on, sorry.
They are pretty much the only younger folks besides Josh and I. Everyone else is at least 40 with kids.
I think tomorrow I will work on making a separate knitting section, so as to not bore everyone with my knitting tales. I'll probably start pulling the latest entry from there onto the front page of my site.
Off to the bank. Hope I don't have to see any more coppers!
There are some movies that I love, but just can't watch. I can get through about half of Platoon before I have to turn it off. I can get through about 25 minutes of Black Hawk Down and I have to turn it off. I think it is knowing the reality of the situations these people were in just upsets me too much. Actually, I know that's it. Just thinking about it now makes me sad.
I believe that is why the sci-fi, fantasy, and to some extent comedy genres are so appealing. they aren't based in reality (or at least that much) and each is an escape. I look at our dvds and I see Black Hawk Down sitting there and want so much to watch it, but I know I can't without getting upset.
While reading this entertaining article, I got Man On The Moon stuck in my head. I don't want to have music in my head right now. I want peace and quiet. .. Sing in the morning cry by night. I don't remember where that superstition came from, but I wrote about it in the 8th grade.
I was working on some code and had such a dumb ass moment I'm ashamed to admit it. I frickin forgot a comma. The whole script worked on for what seemed like an hour (but was really more like 20 minutes while watching Law & Order), hung up by a comma. /sigh
Just looked in and saw both the husband and cat sleeping in the same positions. Strange folk they are.
I let the kids play in the backyard. Today was early day, so we had time. Holy carp did they get dirty. AJ actually came up to me and said he need a bath! I've finished one and have another one in the tub now. The oldest and biggest bath pain is going in last.
As soon as everyone is gone, I'm taking a nap. For some reason my body kept waking me up this morning. Not like Erika though, it just didn't want to rest anymore. So I was up quite early.
You know what's crazy? Jamie Oliver has more time to update his "diary" than I do. Maybe he does it as a voice mail message and has someone type it up for him. Kind of like the Live Journal Phone Posts. I could do it that way. Hrrrmm.
Little miss sulky pants is driving me crazy. She got me up at 6am. Last night we clipped her nails and she has been sulking ever since. Since she couldn't claw at the covers, she decided to knock a whole container of candy onto the floor (at 6am). I was not a happy camper. I've had my chai, so I am a little better. She has eaten, so she is as well. She's still notty (really naughty)!
I'm sure she will be writing about the horrific experience that it was last night. She's so overly dramatic. I can't even imagine what she would be like if she had Soft Claws put on!
I haven't heard from my mother since Friday, so no news on my grandmother. I am keeping my hopes up. My grandmother is pretty strong and has been through a lot. She's not ready to go, not yet.
Gina sent me an email this morning that made me laugh...
I really liked numbers 13 and 16.

Things I have observed lately:
- Craftpop.com (a project of quidnunc.org's) I saw the little "sticker" on the side of the site and followed it. I had put it in my links database, but never mentioned it so I thought I should.
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone will be airing again on Saturday, just in case you missed it last Sunday. Sheesh, they should wait and air it again closer to the release of PoA.
Side note: I'm curious to see what Disney will be doing for a Harry Potter ride. They aquired the rights to create a Harry Potter themed ride/attraction while Universal Studios aquired the rights for a Lord of the Rings ride/attraction. I guess it isn't too bad living so close to both of them. I'll be a goofball and take a picture with Gollum. I like Andy Serkis!
I finally purchased Stitch 'N Bitch. I thought about it and figured what the heck. I'm glad I did because I think it may help Brittany out as well.
My grandmother is doing better, but still not good. We don't expect my mom back for at least two weeks.
Oh, I smell like an old Avon lady. I'm not even sure what scent it is, but my hands smell like old lady's perfumes.
I must go deal with the evil cat. She thinks she is starving (I just fed her about ten minutes ago) and is driving me crazy.
Like I could pass this one up. I did edit the look of the results though. I can't stand giant images.
You are bamboo. Warm, cozy, and thoughtful, you take your time and enjoy how things feel, smell, and taste. You love the craft and beauty of traditional things, and you value the comfort and experience of knitting as much as the results. But while you are reveling in your warm cozies, don't get stuck. Warm is wonderful, but so is the whole wide world!
What kind of knitting needles are you? Brought to you by Quizilla
I'm going to take a nap. The kids went home early, so I've got a little bit of a break. I'm sad because Romper Stomper didn't come today. Whenever the mailman comes early, we get half the mail for that day. I guess he has plans after work!
Wastebasket Paper Basketball (link courtesy of Josh, my husband)
Off to the bank and grocery store. I have a few moments of freedom today, then the kids will be here. They have a little over a week of school left. Holy carp. I need a summer vacation!
My eyes hurt and surprisingly, it is not from crying. They've been feeling irritated a lot lately. Maybe it's allergies, I don't know.
I am awaiting Romper Stomper's arrival today. I definitely can't watch that with the kids around. I can put on Whalerider again.* That should keep at least AJ and Shalyn busy.
*It is supposed to rain this afternoon, so a trip to the park isn't looking too good. We will go if it is clear.
Just an fyi. I probably won't be surfing or updating for a bit. My grandmother has taken a turn we didn't want her to take. My mom will be flying up in the morning and we aren't sure when she will be back. Just keeping positive thoughts now. Thanks
I have been a subscriber of easynews for a long time. I'm sad (yet glad) to say that I will be canceling my account at the end of the month. Why am I doing such a thing? Honestly, it's because my cable service provider's news server has really improved over the past few months. So, I'll give it a go. But I do have to say I have never had a problem with easynews and really enjoyed the service.
In other news, I think my brain is trying to separate and take an eye with each half. That's the only way of explaining the way it feels. But it doesn't hurt, it just feels weird. WTF?
Whalerider update: AJ and Shalyn watched it and both loved it. AJ has watched it two more times. Brittany got involved in one of her Fear Street books (which ended up causing her to have to sleep with the TV and light on), so she didn't watch it.
I think I will go have some chai and chill before fixing some spinach pie.
I don't normally watch the CBS show Yes, dear. Last night I decided to watch it while knitting. I loved how they spoofed The Usual Suspects. It was great.
I'm going to be watching the kids in a little bit. Actually, AJ is already here. My sister in law is sick, so they have to go find out what is wrong with her. In other news, later this week my other brother and sister in law will hopefully find out the gender of their soon to be child! Once we know, I can knit a blanket.
I had some weird dreams last night. I didn't have any melatonin either! I think it was related to the fact that Skittles got sick in the middle of the night and I had to clean it up plus cook some chicken for her to eat (we ran out of wet food and the dry food is what made her sick). She loved the chicken. I managed to go back to sleep until 7 when the alarm went off. So back to the weird dreams. First I dreamed that my brother and sister in law were plotting out potential baby names on a huge piece of cardboard. There were some really weird names, some of them sounded like STDs. The next dreams I barely remember but I recall waking up thinking, "What in the hell was that all about?"
Skittles is wearing a collar. She hated it for about five minutes and now she doesn't care. We're trying to get her in the habit of wearing it. It's either that or get her chipped and I don't think she will care for that.
I think the kids and I will watch Whalerider when they get here. They haven't seen it yet so maybe they will like it.
Ok, off to do some reading before the arrival of the girls (AJ is napping).
For future reference here are a few live journal communities I am either a member of or a lurker of: punk_knitters, novice_knitters, and weasleysweaters.
They all include a great bunch of people, ideas, and links.
I am suffering from a minor case of the sniffles that my mother and nephew passed on to me. I am just dealing with a runny nose and dead weight feeling in the evening.
Went nutso at the local thrift store yesterday. They had the books on special, 3 for $1. I bought a few!
I also got another APC Battery Back Up... that works! And the best purchase was an old case. I'm using it to keep track of my in progress knitting stuff.
While it may be a Hallmark holiday, Happy Mother's Day Mom! We love you.

A voice of reason? Nancy Reagan Calls for Stem Cell Research!
"Science has presented us with a hope called stem cell research, which may provide our scientists with many answers that for so long have been beyond our grasp. I just don't see how we can turn our backs on this."
I've been redoing the library since Friday. I've almost finished. We have a ton of kids' books. It seems to keep growing too.
I need to do some research on magazine files. I'd like to make some of my own, but it might be easier to just buy some from The Container Store or something.
Well, first Friends went off, soon it will be time to say goodbye to Frasier and now, the Friday Five. Sadly, I have never participated in a Friday Five.
I'm watching Conan O'Brien and he has Brad Pitt on right now promoting Troy. I was just thinking of something. When he isn't cast in the male lead role, he's a pretty good actor. The same goes for Leonardo DiCaprio. That boy was impressive in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
I miss my Late Night With Conan O'Brien travel mug/tumbler. It melted when I put it on the bottom dishwasher rack. Oops. They don't make the same one anymore though. It was the moon and stars logo one.
I've got more to write about but I just realized what time it is. Crikey.
Happy Anniversary to my parents and Happy Birthday to Scott, my uncle that I don't call Uncle!
Small changes are being made on the site, for those that notice any bugs, let me know.
I probably pissed off my web host after my rebuilds. Sorry. If I am lucky, it should be the last of the massive rebuilds.
After all of that, I'm going to go watch Law and Order or something. I need a break and something to eat.
I was quite productive today. I figured out why some code wasn't working. Silly me forgot a closing apostrophe. Oops.
I'm tired and it may just be clear enough tomorrow to put down the ant killer! It's thundering right now, but this should be the end of it until possibly the afternoon.
Skittles is breaking out with a rash. It's not too bad, but I know it has to be bothering her. I'll give her a couple of days, but with no snacks or surprises. If it doesn't clear up or at least start to by then, she's heading to the vet!
Now it's sleep time. Gentle thunders will be nice.
If the Red Cross does decide to release a commemorative knitting kit based on the Knit Your Bit campaign they did during the war, I'd buy at least one of each one. I look at it as not only contributing to a really good cause (and one that really needs help) but it would be for something fun too!
I've seen this linked to in a few places and just because it's funny, I am posting a link here to remember where to find it.
The Silmarillion of J.R.R Tolkien in One Thousand Words
LAST ALLIANCE OF ELVES AND MEN: Push off.
SAURON: Make me.
ISILDUR: Whack.
SAURON: Ow.
Feeling rather blah today. I shouldn't, it's overcast and I'm wearing a dress that fits me perfectly. My self esteem is well, but my insides are not. With the rain lately comes some ever so fun congestion. Nothing bad, just kind of blah.
I may watch Best In Show later. I just love Parker Posey. House of Yes is one of my favorite movies of hers. Josh's sister got it for me a while back (Yes you!).
There was a ton of stuff I wanted to write about last night, but couldn't because it was storming so bad (lots of pink on the Doppler) that I didn't want my computer on. Now I can't remember any of the topics. Go figure.
"It's not little, it's titanic." was what my nephew just said. He is of course trying to say gigantic. Shalyn's new word a few months ago was disgusting. She of course said it as sigusting. It took her a few corrections to get it right, but boy was it cute.
Frustration with the senior munchkin has reached an all time high. She's being very lazy about finishing her science fair project. All that is left is to glue stuff to the board and decorate, her favorite part. She also put up a huge fuss about needing to get a shower. So, until she apologizes I won't be helping her with her project. I've been pushed to my edge with her.
Ugh, I think I'm going to go make myself something for lunch.
Oh... and Skittles really needs to write about how much trouble she got into today. She started chewing on one of Josh's airplane's wings this morning. He was quite angry about it.
I'm dying over this SNL spoof of Harry Potter. In the skit Lindsay Lohan is playing the new and improved Hermione and all of the guys are fumbling over her and her cleavage. Too funny.
I was planning on getting a lot of stuff done on the site tonight, but I'm just too tired and it will have to wait.
Happy Beltaine.
I went to see Mean Girls with the senior munchkin. It was a typical teen/preteen movie. Girls being mean and getting what they deserve in the end, but then learning their lessons. Quite a few SNL folks are in it. Tina Fey wrote the screenplay. What do you expect? It wasn't bad, but I would wait until it comes out on dvd if you don't REALLY want to see it.
I think I need a nap. Josh is taking a nap. Oh yes, a nap would be good.
