OMG, I finally got my hair cut

I finally did it. I will be donating 19 inches of my hair.

Lessons learned for today:
1. Make sure the person cutting your hair really knows what you are talking about.
2. Keep your eyes open when they cut.

Apparently after explaining where I wanted her to cut off, so that I can donate atleast two feet, she still got it wrong. She left almost 8 inches off of what I wanted her to cut off! Needless to say, I didn't tip her. Grr.

A storm is brewing outside. The season has begun. It will be like this until August or September, storms between 3 and 5.

Off to watch Brother Bear with the kids.

celebrity crushes

My nephew has had a crush for a while. It's cute, because he's only three. His crush is... Dakota Fanning! Yes, the adorable little girl from I Am Sam, Sweet Home Alabama (Reese Witherspoon's character as a little girl), Taken the mini series, Uptown Girls, The Cat in The Hat (one of the only reasons the movie was even bought), and now Man on Fire. He is quite cute when professing his fondness for her. He used to say, "I yike her." Now if he decided to have crushes on cartoons, he would probably pick Kim Possible.

In other news, the flippin' cable modem company is again doing work in the middle of the day. Who in the world schedules these things?

I finally remembered that I needed to set up a redirect for Brittany's old section on this site to her new domain. She hasn't really updated in a long time. She never seems to have the time. She might post some stuff on her science fair project, but I can't say for sure. That seems to take up all of her free time when she is here. No, we didn't do it on fertilized grass again. She did it on raisin counts in various brands of raisin bran cereal. Did you know you get more raisins per two cup bowl of Total than the other major brands?

Anyhow, maybe when she finishes the roll of film she has in her camera she will post them. For her birthday she got a Bratz camera from one of our friends.

Hey, snye.de is back, sort of (but that could also be my flakey connection today too). I am taking it that the move was a success.

I think I shall go water the backyard now. The front seems to be at the point where I shouldn't water it too much. The back is still in need of much TLC. Stupid ants have been eating my grass seed. I swear it is like watching a Tom and Jerry cartoon. A line of ants were just walking off carrying a ton of my grass seed (I put seed on top of the soil so they wouldn't take the stuff in it).

Are you gonna go my way

Yesterday we went to get a dvd burner for my dad. Apparently we got the wrong one, so we are heading back this morning to return it and get the right one. It doesn't use the same format of blank dvds that I have, so I have to remember to buy some of those as well. The one that I bought yesterday does use the same as I have. Go figure.

Watch out, we could be watched! Also, Law & Order: SVU focused on a woman with a blog. The woman of course being Marlee Matlin. I remember seeing her as a kid doing Children of a Lesser God (the play). She did a Q/A with us afterwards. All I remember is that she seemed to really like acting on stage.

I'm working on making a generator for the code (for the bookmarklet for the link script). I'll probably finish it later today and post it.

Kill Bill: Which Deadly Viper Assassin Are You?

You know I had to do this one!

You are BillBILL! (Snake Charmer)
You're Bill! I love you! Anyways, you're skilled in the art of manipulation. You're very strong, talented, powerful, and witty. You don't seem to have any real sense of morality, and you only let your kindness show around a select handful of people (mostly Kiddo and B.B). You do have some regret for the horrible things you've done, but won't let it interfere with your life. You respect your opponents, and you generally believe in fair game.

Knitting Invades My Dreams - again

Last night I had a dream involving a serial killer that was a knitter. The killer would knit something for his victim and send it to them. He would only kill them when they were wearing what he sent them. Apparently I was an undercover agent looking for this killer. I was at a little Chinese place knitting in the corner when the serial killer saw me and struck up a conversation.

Then of course Skittles woke me up. This was one of those dreams where you want it to go on, just because it's so darn silly, you have to see what comes out of it.

Interesting bits from the dream:
- The serial killer was "played by" Nick Stahl (with his hair rather short)*.
- One potential victim was a small boy. He received a pair of knitted gorilla-feet socks. The police hid him in a safe house before he could be killed.
- One victim was a woman who preferred to walk around on her hands. She received a pixie hat from the killer.
- The Chinese restaurant was in Chinatown and all of the employees spoke perfect English.
- I sat in the driveway of my grandparents' neighbor, knitting. I was trying to attract the attention of the killer. Apparently it worked because he eventually found me at the Chinese restaurant.
- The killer was so nice, I almost didn't want to have to arrest him.

*I only remember Nick Stahl from when he was younger, circa The Man Without a Face.

I either need to not take Melatonin ever again or take it every night to keep having these kinds of wacky dreams. I guess it makes for fun content.

Rainy Days

Today is a rainy day. Actually it hasn't started raining yet, but it's been lightning and threatening to rain. I contemplated taking a walk to the post office, but decided against it after seeing a little too much lightning.

Last night I put up a links database. I started adding the fun and/or frequently used links. I changed quite a bit of the script stuff and a little of the looks. I also got a bookmarklet created for it. I couldn't believe it actually worked. I still don't know why the other one didn't. /sigh

Tonight Josh and I are going out to a Thai restaurant with some of his flying friends. I'm hoping we aren't going to be out too late, but I have a feeling we probably will be.

I am thinking I may cut my hair in about two weeks. My hair is pretty healthy aside from a few split ends here and there. I'll have them trim those off and then cut it so I can donate it to Locks of Love.

Hey, it just started to rain. Yeah for not having to water the lawn after all! Hopefully the grass will start to grow in the backyard. The front yard is doing great, aside from the little area where some jerk off on a motorcycle ran into the mailbox and left a big old ripped up patch from their tire.

I hope that their karma kicked in and their shoulder is hurting. I knew I heard something the other night and that had to be it. They hit it hard enough to separate the screws from the post! Thankfully it just twisted the outer layer. We have the post three feet into the ground for just these reasons.

Banana Protection

"Are you fed up with bringing bananas to work or school only to find them bruised and squashed?" Protect your banana! It's just funny.

I just finished making some spinach pie just a little while ago. Yummy stuff.

We had a scare earlier today. Skittles was missing in action. She was found in a closet sleeping behind some clothes. I don't think she has gotten enough sleep today and was trying to catch a few ZzZzs before bedtime.

Time for some quality time with the hubby.

Gathering it all together

This post is coming to you from my fabulously reloaded machine! Frustration after the dead memory stick led me to reload yesterday. Actually it started on Thursday morning, but the completion was delayed by errands.

Things I have noticed while reloading.
1. Thunderbird sucks when it comes to trying to import a lot of messages. I gave up and got rid of it. I've got over six years worth of messages that I keep on hand (yes, I frequently view some of those messages) and if Thunderbird can't handle it, I will have to stick with the evil O until Thunderbird is improved. It works brilliantly for new accounts and I recommend it to anyone that needs to use it for such. Brittany is currently using it for her email.

2. I've got way too many program CDs to keep track of. I have three 3" binders full. I've tried copying programs all on to one cd, but I still have a lot. Maybe I should burn them onto a dvd disk? Just an idea.

3. My motherboard is wonky. I'm having issues again with my computer recognizing my PDA via USB. The only thing I can think of is the USB controller on the motherboard. It's the only thing left on my mental checklist.

4. The last version of the Do-Something plugin doesn't play well with others on my computer. The older version works fine though. Strange.

5. For some reason Winamp5 keeps cutting off the last few seconds of almost every song it plays.

6. My burner kicks butt. I burned an almost 700mb cd in less than a minute. Golden

Today while watering the yards, I began reviewing PHP Visual QuickStart Guide and realized it is probably the most easily readable PHP book I have seen. I'm really not too big on books that talk down to people. It is really a basic book, but it will help you grasp the early stages of PHP.

Tomorrow Brittany and I will work on her science fair project. Technically I'll be there to make sure she's doing it. It's not something she really needs me for. She will need me later for the spelling and grammar checks. Then again she's recently discovered the wonders of spell/grammar check.

I still have some programs to load and will do so after I finish this. I think I may watch some Sopranos while I'm waiting for stuff to load. Sorry Josh, you can catch up tonight.

A quick bit

I didn't do a layout. My migraine came back. I made a little graphic and changed the link color. I know, ever so dramatic. I'll do something later. No, I mean it. Really.

I need to do a little dance now... Because tomorrow I don't have to get up early for anything tomorrow!

Posted by miftik at 11:37 PM

Someone please answer the door

After getting some serious yard work done, I took a nap. I hadn't intended on taking a nap though. I must have dreamed that I heard the doorbell because I woke up yelling across the house to have Josh get the door. He swore that it never rang. Oh well. It must have been a vivid dream. That's what I get having the cat sleeping next to my head.

Tomorrow is Earth Day. In high school I was quite the active volunteer and Earth Day was always fun for me. Maybe the kids and I will do something special tomorrow when they come to visit. Depending on whether my migraines don't reappear, I may make a layout for the day. I've been in the mood to redesign, so maybe this will be my motivation.

The fun of Rome

I must say that I am quite enjoying all of the focus on Rome and mythology lately. Spartacus was enjoyable. Caesar was quite nice as well. Maybe I was a sucker for Richard Harris playing Sulla. While they may not always stick to the facts, they are enjoyable and they cause the other channels to focus on their subjects for a week. Needless to say, I can't wait for (Troy and Alexander) to come out either.

Oh and let us not forget my love of the beautiful costumes. I was watching Mists of Avalon yesterday and couldn't help but by jealous. I am interested to see what the costumes will be like in King Arthur.

Oh, and my birthday color is Orchid Smoke, Pantone color 15-2210 (aka #D194AE). (link via web-goddess.org)

"Your ability to transform yourself and others is extremely powerful. You like to push past limits and go where no man or woman has gone before. There is a great deal of restlessness in your birth date. Try to encorporate ease into your daily plans, as too much intensity can be hard on your body. You can use your curiousity to discover valuable information. Orchid smoke allows you to explore profound experiences while sustaining a balanced and secure foundation."

Respond

To everyone I owe an email or comment and those I plan to email:

I've been super-over-busy since last Wednesday and today was my first real day off. Now I have a massive headache and am trying to deal with that. I plan to respond to my emails, I'm just trying to get rid of this headache first.

Thank you. That is all.

256 megs of pain in my asp

The apparent bane of my existance for a while has been a bad (or going bad) 256 meg stick of ram. Grr. We're talking pain the the tush here. I've sworn and screamed about my machine. Hopefully someone will have some on sale this weekend. Then I won't be so moody about having to buy it. ::Wonders to herself whether her husband would let her get a lot of memory::

Slow day today. I watched Finding Nemo 3.5 times today. I realized today that between my brother and I, we have a crap load of dvds! Holy smokes. I've got a lot of series dvds, he's got a lot of features. I guess I'm a sucker for a good series. Too bad I couldn't figure what else to take with me today. I need to find something good for tomorrow. I'll just wait until the morning though. I can figure out my mood better. Maybe I'll take The Matrix Revolutions. I like the soundtrack. Of course it's mostly Juno Reactor, so why wouldn't I?

What do you mean you don't have any check registers?

For two weeks the bank has claimed that they do not have any check registers. They are a bank, how can you not have any check registers? I like to have my checkbook match everything else I use and I can't enter anything new into the checkbook until I get a new register! This kind of behaviour makes me want to change my bank, though it really shouldn't. I just can't believe they would be out of check registers for two weeks! If I can get my checks in three days, why is it harder to get simple registers from them?

I seriously thought about printing out my own, but why should I? As a customer of the bank, it's the least they could do. Maybe I should just get some coffee cans, close my account, and keep my money buried in the backyard.

So we bought Kill Bill Vol. 1 and of course watched it. It was still just as funny as the first time. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see Vol. 2 until Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm going to be running the show for four days and I will be too darn tired to go to the movies in the evening. It's been so busy that I don't think I'm going to get to paint either. Oh well. Maybe next time.

First thoughts on Netflix

Well, I discovered that my Netflix turn around time is 1 day. I guess that's pretty good. I only had an issue with one of my first movies. The Big Lebowski was scratched. The dvd player made it through though. The other two were find though.

The other day I went through some old clothes. Clothes from high school. Holy carp they fit. Some were even too big! I found my old NitzerEbb t-shirt and my t-shirt from the first Lalapalooza. That was really the only good one. I found some New Order, Replacements, and even some old t-shirts from Suede. I imagine I could probably fit into my old Space Camp t-shirt. I've had that thing for about 18 years!

Skittles is being pathetic and cute. She wants food, but man I can't take the cuteness much longer.

Anyone use Cingular? I am researching new cell phone providers and I like their coverage. I like T-mobile, but they don't have an in between plan like one that I need!

The truth

Josh and I went out to eat with Josh's parents and some friends of theirs. Guess who we met?

The Easter Bunny! And guess what the Easter Bunny likes to do after a hard day of work?

(Click for a larger image) The Easter Bunny after a hard day of work.

Sit at the bar! If I had seen Santa too I would have fallen out of my chair and thought I was in an episode of The Simpsons! I tried to get some more pictures, but I didn't want to scare the bunny off. I know how bunnies can be.

On a completely different note, I really should have measured my nephew's head to make this Spiderman hat for him. I just went crazy and kind of made it to big for his head. He'll still have fun with it. I'm planning to take pictures if it comes out as planned.

I'm heading to bed. The power is back on and I have fixed the microwave clock. I have to be up early for the cable guy. Crap, that means I have to rake wet leaves out of the way too. That bites.

Cable makes me cry

I give up. No, really, I do. I started to dig one of the holes for the canopy, after clearing all of the leaves and debris. We won't even get into the screams that came from my mouth. Let's just say the kids can no longer play over in that area for a variety of reasons. Back to the story... I was dumping the dirt from the post hole digger and I look. Oh gawd, is that what I think it is? I cut the cable line. Damn it all to heck. No internet, no cable. They can come out tomorrow between 1 and 4pm, but I won't be here and I can't get anyone to cable guy-sit for me. Damnit. So, I have rescheduled them to come Monday morning between 8am and 11am. I called Josh at the flying field and he is running to Lowes to get a patch cable and some connectors. He's done this once before, so he knows what to do.

I know I won't be able to post this immediately, but I may be able to hop on to one of the neighbors' connections if we can't get the cable modem going. /sigh

Ah, my husband is the greatest. I admit I probably could have done it, but I'm kind of stranded and need materials. He went to Lowes and got the stuff and we sat outside and fixed it. I'm buying him a nice pair of wire cutters/crimpers for our anniversary. I think every family needs at least one good one. I'm still having the cable guy come out to give it an official fix. I want them to bury it like it is supposed to be, not the three inches it is currently at.

Well, I am off to watch Clean Sweep and be happy I am not as messy as the people on the show!

I just can't do it

Josh has finall gone through his closet and decided to get rid of some of his ill-fitting pants. The only problem is that now he only has a few pairs left! Everything else is too big. I think there are nine pairs of jeans/pants and six pairs of shorts. I don't know what to do with them. Only two of them are in decent condition. The others now have paint or airplane related residue on them. I thought about taking them to one of my favorite thrift stores. They are an independent one that doesn't tend to waste money like some of the larger organizations.

So, it looks like we are going shopping tonight or tomorrow morning. /sigh. It seems like we are always running to the store for something.

My project this weekend is to get my covered area vision created (or at least started). It's really just a place to put the lawn stuff since we don't really want to do a shed right now. Getting a shed (of any size) requires getting permits and inspections (for the whole hurricane thing). Neither of which will help right now to keep the yard items dry when it rains. It's going to be hot as Hades today, but it will be overcast, so it should help some.

Next weekend my parents are going on a mini vacation. I may sneak attack and do some painting that they have been wanting done, but putting off. My mom doesn't read my site that often now that we live here, so they probably still won't know about it until they return. Gina, don't say anything to them, thanks. I will also be running one of their stores during the day, so I may not feel like painting at the end of the day. I will just have to wait and see.

Alright, off to do inside the house stuff and prepare myself mentally for the work I must do outside. On the bright side, I just realized I only have a very little left of the house to paint. I could possibly do that in a day too.

Worried...

I am just worrying about a friend and just need to calm down. Nothing else.

I attended a revival just now. No, I didn't go to church. I went here and saw the light! (Link found at bigpinkcookie.com).

Must do taxes and mail them on Monday. Since we know we'll be paying, we're holding out as long as we can, just because we can.

Also, I've been avoiding it, but I may just sign up for a NetFlix account. I'm going to give the free trial a go and see if it seems worthwhile. I think if we didn't have as many tv channels as we have now, I might have signed up earlier. We'll see.

Just can't get enough

I'm a fool, a cd/dvd burning fool. I've been goofing off and making cds and dvds. I made a dvd of the kids at the park set to the music from the Triplets of Belleville Soundtrack. AJ loved it. I think all kids get a kick out of seeing themselves on tv.

I need to find a good source of good quality dvds. I've found a couple that average out to $1 a dvd. I'm partial to Sony due to the fact that I have yet to have a Sony go bad. I've used Memorex CD-Rs before and had some failures. I don't know. I'm probably just too picky.

I'm going shopping with the kids later, if I see anything on sale I might pick it up to try it out. I think they also wanted to go to the park and the library, but it all depends on whether they drive me nuts at the store. That and Brittany has a book report to finish. She only has two paragraphs left and she has to design a new book jacket. Not too difficult and it isn't due for another week. She just needs to finish it while it is fresh.

Thinking happy thoughts about my dear friend Calhoun and his journey to his new home.

The world just won't stop spinning

I just read a Reuters article about unexplained fires happening in Sicily. Weird stuff.

Still more drama. Still more voice problems.

Skittles had an adventure tonight. Gawd we all almost died when we found her crouching by the road. Thankfully she is just fine.

I've been working on knitting a hat. It has been helping me calm down and go zen-like. I am trying to find a yarn that I would like to make the cat bed with. I did buy some yarn to make AJ a hat in Spiderman colors (his request). That's what I get for taking him with me. Brittany got some yarn too, for finger knitting though. All of their yarns were on sale for $0.70 each. How could I say no to that? I was pretty good and only got a skein for myself. AJ got more than I did!

Has anyone received one of those lovely little mdf boxes from AOL? I pulled off their labeling and did a test recovering. There was still some adhesive left on the box and I had some extra heavy wrapping paper (in stripes), so I gave it a wrap. It looks pretty good, so I think I will cover it for real sometime soon. I went looking to see if anyone else had got one in the mail and I found that one person had. I haven't covered my metal tins yet, but I am keeping the ones anyone gives me.

I guess I should go to bed. Apparently my eyes are really red and I don't look so well.

Drained

The past few days have been emotionally and physically draining. Lots of drama, third party of course. Josh and I are fine. He helped me put a load of stuff into the attic. I found 144 mailing tubes up there (still in a giant box). I forgot about those. My parents had wanted them for shipping some of the items they sell at their stores. They never remembered to take them to the stores though. Oops. I'll send them on their happy little way later.

Oh, and I'm losing my voice. I woke up this morning to get after Skittles and nothing came out. It's been coming and going. As long as I drink a cup of hot tea, I seem to manage alright.

I have been in the rearranging mood today. I think I am going to put up some framed stuff and rearrange a ton of knick-knacks. Mainly doing stuff that doesn't require me to talk.

I made my knitters code block, but I think I'm going to just wait and post a page of codes. I really need to reorganize this site. I've got a list of stuff I want to do, but haven't gotten to. I need me time! Was that convincing enough? For now though, I'm going to get a cup of tea and maybe get a nap. I've got a migraine developing.
