Dear Bob, Mother of... NO.
While I like Charlize Theron... she is completely lacking in the physical characteristics that made Aeon, Aeon. If you could find someone with Liv Tyler's facial structure it would work. I don't think Liv Tyler herself would work though. Unless they do a whole lot of editing of her body, I don't think I could bare to see Charlize playing Aeon. I guess time will tell.
This moment of shock brought to you by a really bad migraine. I'm going to go put my head on my pillow for a bit.
OK, projects. I've got work projects going on and downtime projects going on. I'm knitting myself a cute little multicolored hat. I'm kind of just winging it and making it up as I go along. I'm also working on a Gryffindor scarf for my future niece or nephew (my brother's baby). The baby won't be able to wear it though or rather it shouldn't. It's more of a symbolic thing since my other nieces and nephew each have a Gryffindor scarf. I'm scaling it down and will make a larger one when they get older if he/she wants one. These are things I can do and not have to concentrate too much on. Work projects require more concentration.
I am hoping to begin working on some work projects in the next few days. My head/nose/ear/ problems seem to be subsiding. I've got ideas in my head and can now sit at my computer without feeling like I'm going to pass out.
I also need to catch up on emails. I've tried to send out short notes, but I haven't completely been able to. In time... In time.
Apparently sometime in the middle of the night, Skittles and my very first ever Sock Dog got in a fight. Skittles' pulled an Outsiders on him. I found the sock dog face down in the fountain this morning. I was able to revive him and he is currently in CDC, Critical Drainage Care. He should be in the sink at least until this evening. We hope to move him into ITT, Intensive Tumble Therapy. He's made out of Angora, so he may have to just be tumbled for his own safety. When he gets better maybe I will take a picture of him with the twins. I made one red and one blue sock dog from soccer socks for AJ and Brittany. Shalyn never picked a sock out.
I'm eating some vegetable lo mein that Josh picked up. It's not too bad. I never thought I would enjoy cabbage as much as I currently am. That's a good thing.
I think I should go. There is a line of Doppler red storms heading this way, along with some hail, and tornadoes. It is supposed to let up on Thursday sometime. Definitely no fun.
Well, it's almost done transferring files. I'll check the clock when it finally does finish. 3:22pm, that took a while.
This whole Disney looking for a buyer thing is a little disconcerting, at least for me. For those that don't know, when Disney purchased land in Florida they were given very, very special privileges. They are their own town/city/county. They have their own government, "police", home developments, etc. They also have lovely little (or not so little) tax breaks. They are authorized to regulate land use, provide police services, fire services, build roads, lay sewer lines, among other things (including the ability to build airports and/or a nuclear power plant). Technically they use private security as their "police force". They don't have to report to any building, zoning, and land-use regulators. Local officials must check in when they come on any Disney owned property and local police must drive unmarked cars on Disney property.
Yeah, anyone who ends up owning Disney will get all of those perks and more. They can buy more land and apply these perks. Ugh. We learned all about these little things in history class many, many years ago. Married To The Mouse: Walt Disney and Orlando is a really good book to read regarding Disney's perks and their effects.
I'm transferring files from the server back to my desktop. I plan to burn them onto cd. I don't really need them for anything other than putting together some portfolio samples. I can do that from the cd and save valuable server space. It's over a couple gigs of data.
My finger is doing better. The band-aid seems to be helping a lot, but typing is a little difficult.
While waiting for these files to transfer, I'm watching The Pelican Brief. There isn't really much else on.
The weather is beautiful and I should go out, but I am feeling anti-sunshine today. Tomorrow it will be in the 80s. Pfft.
I would see Mel Gibson's The Passion of The Christ, but only if the tickets were given to me. I don't think I could pay to see it. I am curious to see how Hidalgo is.
Well, it's down to 127 minutes remaining. Of course that is Microsoft time, not earth time.
I think I will go wake Skittles up. She's asleep in the spare bedroom and I need to put the sheets on the bed in there. She will probably get mopey on me and not want to leave. She's so pathetic when she does that.
I just wanted to say. OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
I have ripped my fingernail back past the flesh. Holy carp am I hurting.
Oh and for those craving some not-so-hot kitty action, Skittles has been bird watching on the cam all day.
In an effort to start posting a little more often in my LiveJournal, I have finally broken down and installed the cross-posting plugin. I'm still tweaking it some. Hopefully things will go alright and this will post at both miftik.com and livejournal with no problems.
For some reason I smell a dirty diaper. The thing is, I still can't smell anything very well through my nose AND there are no babies in the house. The house is empty. Josh will be home soon so we can meet up with some friends/family in downtown mouse-ville.
I think I will end this post now. I hope it worked well.
I'm hoping I will be at a better state in the next few days. My ears are still bothering me, as is my nose.
I almost freaked this morning when I couldn't reach my host! Come to find out they were doing a kernel upgrade. Pheew, I was kind of worried for a second.
Skittles is being cute and sitting in the spare bedroom. It gets a lot of sunlight in there, so she really likes to hang out in there.
I feel like there is something I need to be doing, but am not. I hate that feeling.
Sweet Mama Mia! Holy carp. This deal will roxor the soxor! I'm not even a customer of either of them (formerly of one). My cell phone company gets to use all of Cingular's coverage which will mean increased area for moi! I already have nationwide (to anywhere from anywhere) and this just makes me happy. I was thinking of moving to Verizon, but I may just wait to see how this turns out. I get a better deal with the family plan Josh and I are on.
My nephew and I went for a walk this morning. We managed to walk about a mile total. We were hoping to walk the usual two, but it started raining so we had to cut it short. Normally rain wouldn't bother us but when it's 40 something degrees, it's a little too cold for a four year old!
I managed to get all three of the kids and in bed before their usual time. I was completely amazed. We read some Encyclopedia Brown, brushed teeth and in to bed. Thirty minutes of tv (102 Dalmatians to be exact) and they were out. Of course AJ was up at 6:30AM! Oh well, at least the girls slept through. My brother and my sister-in-law are away for their tenth anniversary (HAPPY ANNIVERSARY YOU TWO). The kids will work on something for their anniversary.
Not bad for still being sick!
When we went to the library Saturday I picked up The Complete Idiots Guide to Knitting and Crocheting. I thought maybe they would be a good reference for Brittany. I was thumbing through it last night and discovered that someone had cut out the most important chapters. WHOLE CHAPTERS, Plural! I'm more than pissed. I'm going back today to let the librarians know. Maybe they can trace it back. I was looking through some of the more advanced stuff and when I finally decided it was a good time for Brittany to read, I find that crap done to a book. For fudges sake, make copies! Grrrr. You've got to be a real asshole to cut pages out of a book from the library.
This cold isn't funny anymore. My fever has been driving me nuts. Meds aren't doing anything and I can't feel my nose anymore. I swear, ever since I got the chicken pox a few years ago, my immune system has been crappy. Grrr.
I'm going to crawl under something and try to pretend I'm better.
I'm probably going to add a little sub-section with desktops/wallpapers. They are mostly my Lord of the Rings based ones. I figured that since I get so many visitors looking for them, I should probably post them up. I have my current one which I also worked into an Aston Shell Theme I created. I actually took the image off of the packaging from Brittany's house cup prize and slowly created the image. I also have two (maybe three) Gollum desktops. One I'm not too fond of because I think I could have done a better job, but the others are cool. My mother can't stand to look at them, she thinks Gollum is UGLY. I think he's kind of cute in a sick and psycho kind of way. I may find my old Serta Counting Sheep ones and put those up as well. I have #1 sitting on Skittles' bench and on camera. The others are packed away. I think I still need to get #13. They aren't offering #29 anymore.
Well, it is almost time to go. It's just chilly enough to wear a set of my little scarves! The kids are coming over and then we are off to the library. I figure it's the perfect place since we can't talk loud anyway! Shalyn is currently in trouble for 1) Using a pair of scissors without supervision and 2) Using said scissors to cut off the head of a Pokemon-like character that Brittany took hours to draw. So Shalyn will get to go to the library, but she can't read her books until she makes some sort of apology to Brittany. We don't believe that Brittany will accept it, but at least she tried. Brittany is REALLY upset right now.
How beautiful! A Humidor CL Server. I'm personally a little leery of stripping down a wireless router, but I think something could be managed with it still fully clothed. I like that it is functional, can sit in your living room and seem entirely appropriate being there. The R2D2PC is also really cute. With as many computer as we have in our home, making them look less like computers or smaller suits me well.
Sometimes people just rock. On Tuesday I won an ebay auction and paid for it immediately. It was shipped from California and arrived yesterday! Two days people, two days. I've yet to have a bad experience with auctions. Maybe I'm just cautious to begin with, but it makes me happy.
It's pretty sad when Canada is calling the Conan O'Brien show racist! If the damn politicians (and others) in Quebec would get their heads out of their ass, they'd realize that it's late night humor. Children won't be watching this and if they are, their parents need a reprimand! The rest of Canada has to be sensitive to Quebec because they are @#&$! Sorry, most Quebecers of the last 10 years don't really have a good reputation with me. The rest of Canada and older Quebecers are ok in my book. Celine will never be ok in my book though.
Now back to a box of tissues and a cup of tea.
Good to know, MeFi should be back soon (tonight or tomorrow). I have been waiting because there is a link that was posted very recently, that I wanted to visit.
Still sick. My throat is really hurting and I've blown my nose so much that my ears need to pop.
More after I eat breakfast... at lunchtime.
File this under where in the heck did that come from.
I'm bleeping sick. Yesterday my throat was hurting and I felt tired. By noon we acquired a new dresser (we're going to have to just deal with a new one since all the old ones sucked) and I proceeded to put it into place. All of the sudden I couldn't breathe and I felt like I was having a hot flash or something. Nope, fever and sniffles. I was up all last night with a fever and an aggravating cat.
I think my nephew gave it to me. He's been battling the sniffles for a while. He got it from his sisters. It's a really awful circle. It's not as bad as before. That cold just never seemed to go away. All I know is I've been feeling loopy all day and it's supposed to get up to 83° today. What in the hell is happening to me??
At least I managed to do some final painting to the garage door a couple of days ago. I painted the decorative window covers. It really makes the house look good.
I added a few groups to my LJ... lotrcostumes, PunkKnitters, and design. Those are a few that I have watched and finally decided to join. Of course I'll probably just lurk, like I do on MeFi (which is still down) and pipe up when I really have something to say.
I also purchased two new pairs of pants for myself. One fits beautifully and the other is too small. It's ok though. The pair that is too small ended up being $2.47 and they are probably only a size to small. At the rate I have been losing weight, it shouldn't be too long before I they fit fine. The pair that fit good make me laugh because Shalyn has a very similar pair in olive green that I bought her for her birthday last year.
Obviously with me feeling bad, the library never happened and won't happen until next week at the earliest. That sucks because the kids are really excited about going and they don't need to be discouraged about the library. Brittany's goal is to complete her project today and turn it in tomorrow. It is due Monday but she can turn it in early.
Well, considering it has taken me almost three hours to compose this post, I should post it before something happens to it!
I put up a sort of finished Valentine's Day theme. It's just on the front page. I couldn't see putting it up everywhere. I just thought it was cute. The image is from the wonderful web-goddess.org and I cut out the train and made it tiny, as well as one heart. I was originally going to just use a rose image that I had (or take a picture of one of the many blooming in the backyard), but decided this year I would use this image.
I got bored watching The Mummy Returns, so I made a few more finger knit projects. Right now I have three of the ones from the previous entry and one really thick purple one to wear with a medium thick white one. Maybe I'll get the kids to model them tomorrow.
Speaking of the kids. I taught the girls how to finger knit and they were really having fun. Shalyn made a bracelet and Brittany made a neck choker.
No luck finding a dresser we thought worked. More looking tomorrow and then to the library after school.
Ok, I made this in about 20 minutes. I will probably make two more and link them together. It's cute how it is now. I think I will definitely teach it to Brittany after she has finished her project! Kind of a second goal.
Dresser shopping today unless something else comes up.
My head is killing me. I think it was from the frustration of working on getting my usb devices to work. A few weeks ago I installed a printer we got and it did all this crap to my computer and my clie stopped working. I am seriously thinking of reloading my computer, but I'd prefer not to. As it stands I'm down one usb port, which are very valuable on my computer. Hence, I'm down a device, my tablet.
I've found a project to keep me busy when I'm hanging with the kids or on a car trip. Finger weaving/knitting. I haven't done it in years. I found two places for instructions. You have to scroll down some on the second link. Maybe I should teach it to Brittany and Shalyn. Hmmm
This is a little worrying.
We ran out of fresh garlic. I made stir-fry without it and wish I hadn't. Oh well. Maybe a little ginger would help.
I've been battling migraines all day. I'm officially pissed because I missed an auction I've been watching. Grrr. It went for well under what I was willing to pay. I can't even surf around. I seem to be good for five minute increments. I may try to sleep early tonight. Try being the key word there.
Dude, it's wrong. It was 85° today! It was actually a record setting temperature. Tonight it will get down to about 60 and tomorrow's high should be in the mid 60s. Then it is supposed to stay a little more constant.
Well, things are going on in the family life right now. Some good, some worrying. We'll know more next week and maybe I'll feel like posting about it. Just trying to think positive and hope for the best.
I was working at one of my parents' shops the other day and I had a customer ask me if I had a walking meter. I guess I must have looked at him wrong or not answered fast enough because he got all pissy and condescending and proceeded to ask me if I knew what a walking meter was. I looked at him and informed him that NO, we don't have a pedometer and he might want to go somewhere like Wal-Mart and ask for a pedometer in the sporting goods department. I would have been nice to him if he hadn't taken a condescending tone with me. People piss me off.
Note to self. If you are leaving the house in a hurry, make sure you turn the A/C on when it is going to be a warm day. I came home to melted chocolates on my desk. Eeeew. Definitely not as bad as the time I was working at mur and Amanda left a chocolate on my desk. Which I put in my pocket to eat after I thanked her. Then we got into a discussion and I forgot about said chocolate until I reached into my pocket to pull out a chocolate covered hand. It was pretty gross looking.
Dresser was not acquired today and no library trip was made. We didn't get to go. Monday maybe we'll go, but I am not holding out any hope. Brittany is a little more interested in working on her essay's creative part. She has to make "artifacts" relating to her essay. I think she wants to work on making the maps on Monday. We'll see.
If you never see the cat on the cam anymore or never see a diary entry, it's probably because we drove 45 minutes and put her on the next rocket to space. Ugh that cat is evil for some reason. In the past 48 hours, I've slept a whopping six hours! SIX... yes, 6 hours. She's got to go see the vet. I can't deal with this. I'm about ready to lock her in the bathroom at night. Why can't she ever keep Josh up? Why does it always have to be me?
Today I am going to the library with the munchkins after a half day of shopping with my mom, for a dresser for the spare bedroom. We will be checking the thrift stores for anything really cool. I found one a few weeks ago that was really neat, but wouldn't work in that room. I haven't seen anything in any of the stores that would look right in the room. I really think it needs an older dresser in there.
I've discovered Hershey's sugar free chocolate. They really aren't that bad. I was expecting them to taste wretched, but they weren't. I think I might try to get a nap before we head out. I miss sleep.
The thermostat is currently reading 81°. /sigh It just feels so wrong.
Must run to the store soon to pick up some spinach. Hot and spicy spinach tonight. Yummy.
I've decided that I really dislike page transitions.
That is all.
Well, it's a sign. I need to go to sleep. I finished loading all of my bookmarks to the site and went to start setting up a very simple rss script. I couldn't remember anything I needed to do. CHMODing files became a foreign language. We don't want to even go into directory paths. dots and slashes, slashes and dots.
Brittany got lectured (or guilted depending on how you look at it) by me today. A half hour later she managed to do more than half of her essay that is due in two weeks. Go munchkin. She thought she couldn't do it, but did. Sometimes she just needs help getting started. I know how that feels.
Going through my bookmarks, I found this cute little story that I like.
The Potato Puppy
by Linda Stafford
My four-year-old son, Shane, had been asking for a puppy for over a month, but his daddy kept saying, "No dogs! A dog will dig up the garden and chase the ducks and kill our rabbits. No dog, and that's final!"Each night Shane prayed for a puppy, and each morning he was disappointed when there was no puppy waiting outside.
I was peeling potatoes for dinner, and he was sitting on the floor at my feet asking for the thousandth time, "Why won't Daddy let me have a puppy?"
"Because they are a lot of trouble. Don't cry. Maybe Daddy will change his mind someday," I encouraged him.
"No, he won't, and I'll never have a puppy in a million years," Shane wailed.
I looked into his dirty, tear-streaked face. How could we deny him his one wish? So I said the words that were first spoken by Eve, "I know a way to make Daddy change his mind."
"Really?" Shane wiped away his tears and sniffed.
I handed him a potato.
"Take this and carry it with you until it turns into a puppy," I whispered. "Never let it out of your sight for one minute. Keep it with you all the time, and on the third day, tie a string around it and drag it around the yard and see what happens!"
Shane grabbed the potato with both hands. "Mama, how do you make a potato into a puppy?" He turned it over and over in his little hands.
"Shh! It's a secret!" I whispered and sent him on his way.
"Lord, you know what a woman must do to keep peace in her home!" I prayed.
Shane faithfully carried his potato around for two days; he slept with it, bathed with it and talked to it.
On the third day I said to my husband, "We really should get a pet for Shane."
"What makes you think he needs a pet?" My husband leaned against the doorway.
"Well, he's been carrying a potato around with him for days. He calls it Wally and says it is his pet. He sleeps with it on his pillow, and right now he has a string tied to it and he's dragging it around the yard," I said.
"A potato?" my husband asked and looked out the window and watched Shane taking his potato for a walk.
"It will break his heart when the potato gets mushy and rots," I said and started getting out food for lunch. "Besides, every time I try to peel potatoes for dinner, Shane cries because he says I'm killing Wally's family."
"A potato?" my husband asked. "My son has a pet potato?"
"Well," I said shrugging, "you said he couldn't have a puppy. He was so disappointed, in his mind, he decided he had to have a pet..."
"That's crazy!" my husband said.
"Maybe you're right, but explain to me why he is dragging that potato around the yard on a string," I said.
My husband watched our son for a few more minutes.
"I'll bring home a puppy tonight. I'll stop by the animal shelter after work. I guess a puppy can't be that much trouble," he sighed. "It's better than a potato."
That night Shane's daddy brought home a wiggling puppy and a pregnant white cat that he took pity on while he was at the shelter.
Everyone was happy. My husband thought he'd saved his son from a nervous breakdown. Shane had a puppy, a cat and five kittens and believed his mother had magic powers that could change a potato into a puppy. And I was happy because I got my potato back and cooked it for dinner.
Everything was perfect until one evening when I was cooking dinner, Shane tugged on my dress and asked, "Mama, do you think I could have a pony for my birthday?"
I looked into his sweet little face and said, "Well, first we have to take a watermelon..."
It is a cute little story. There aren't that many people who actually credit the author, but I did some research and found out who wrote it. At least I think she wrote it.
Congrats Pats. I know the folks back at our old home are going nuts right now. It was a pretty good game, but Vinatieri was ticking me off. Thankfully he came through in the end. My sister in law was cheering for the Panthers, but we'll forgive her for that. ;) Ah, we love ya Ton.
We ate good and had cake and ice cream for mom's bday.
The Arizona prison standoff is over and everyone is awaiting the arrival and predictions of Punxsutawney Phil.
