Who Fandom

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

For you Dr. Who fans out there, you can knit an Ipod cozy. Not just any Ipod cozy though, knit a Tardis Ipod Cozy! Is it wrong that I am looking at it and thinking if I knit four and add a top and bottom I can make it a stuffed Tardis?

Fun knitting

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

I’m going to need some mind numbing knitting soon and I think I may have found some. Knitted Grass. Cute!

I wanted to work on a new rogue (in something lighter for more wear around here) but I need something that won’t require me to concentrate so much. Maybe I’ll just knit squares and rectangles for animals.

Freaking Awwwwsome

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

OK, someone took Jess Hutch’s Kate pattern and turned it into an adorable monster. I’m so tempted. If only I didn’t have so much to do already. /sigh

A Brain Slug

Futurama Brain Slug

Knit Brain SlugA knitted brain slug from Futurama. I cheated and started my base off flat. Doing it this way also made it much easier to stuff in the end. I also added small bands on yarn on the bottom so that the headband (braided black yarn) can be removed when desired.

The pattern was pretty easy to follow. Just remember that intarsia doesn’t work so nicely in the round. I forgot about that. I also forgot that I knit quite tight, so I probably should have used US 7s, rather than the 6s that I did use.

Pattern: Knit Brain Slug
Materials used:
US6 DPNs
Acrylic green yarn
Acrylic white yarn
Acrylic black yarn
Stitch Marker

Gettin my knit on

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Finally! Just like Kris, I too have gotten my knit-on.

I started on glove number two for Josh. The first one fits perfect and the second one just seemed to grow width-wise in the palm, so it is being reforged. Yes.

I also made some yarn purchases. I have resisted buying anything other than 100% cotton yarn for things for the kitchen. However, I bought some lovely wool/cotton blend at 70% off today. I got eleven skeins in salmon (or at least that is what the lady standing behind me told me) for a possible second and lighter Rogue* (or anything else) and five skeins in pink. I’m actually tempted to try over dying the salmon. I am going to play around with colors and a few strands here and there. Oh, and I decided that if I do Rogue again, I’m not doing the pocket. I never use it on my wool one as it is.

And I also need to knit a table runner and some place mats for the kitchen table. Josh has finished it and now it needs accessories. I will try for pictures tomorrow, though the chairs aren’t done yet. I know you all will get over that.

*It’s too hot here too much to wear my wool Rogue very long. I have seen and heard of a number of people using wool/cotton blends for Rogue. I’m crossing my fingers.

Bandwagon

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

I jumped on the bandwagon and knitted a dishcloth. The pattern in the Mason Dixon book is the same as the one found on the yarn band, which is the same as the one found here. It’s a little practice with the slip stitch too. Eventually I will take a picture of it, but I am shipping off my camera for repair. Something is wrong with the flash and it is causing it to eat the life out of my batteries.

I haven’t bought the book yet. I need to see how difficult this semester will be before I decide on how much knitting I will get done. You can get the moderne log cabin blanket and moderne baby blanket patterns (pdf link) from amazon.com for free.

I’ll probably make another dishcloth just to use up the rest of these two skeins. They’re just sitting in a ziploc on the floor next to my desk. They look so bored.

Now for more exciting news. I finally went and bought the pattern for the silk ribbed lace corset by Anne Modesitt. I’ve loved that pattern for years, but always thought it wouldn’t look right on me. I figure it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.

A project

Monday, April 17th, 2006

I’ve been itching for a knitting project. I needed something that I could do in between classes and not have to concentrate on too much. Oh, and it had to use the yarn from the part of the stash I left out*.

Well, I decided on a project. I have a ton of chenille from a recycled sweater and I have decided to make a little tesselating fish blanket from it. The original pattern has been taken down, but someone attempted to improve it by making the fish flat. It is pretty good except for one part. Towards the end of the decreases, the numbers don’t match up.

Here is my changed version of the decreases. (leaving her text in place so it is easier to tell where to replace)

I haven’t tested this yet, but if it doesn’t work, I’ll re-edit this entry. I hope it does work. These will be great little projects to take me away from the studying this last week of class and during the hours I have between finals next week.

* I packed up a HUGE box of vacuum sealed bags of yarn in an effort to use up some of my existing yarn.

Did I miss something?

Sunday, April 2nd, 2006

When did the knitty surprises come out? Did I totally miss their arrival or am I super cool and spotted them first? Anyhow, Starsky is cute. It might even be useful in my cardigan dilema. Want to hear something really bad?? My mother has a raincoat in the same cut that I refuse to let her throw away. It is too tight across the chest but damnit, I just can’t let her let it go. I just love the way it is built!

New patterns

Saturday, April 1st, 2006

The new Magknits is up. So far I like Calla and I think Zombies need not apply is cute. I admit the Slinky socks are amusing, but I wouldn’t ever wear them.

The call pattern is making me think I might want to knit a tank top, but of course I would need a light shrug or cardigan to go over. What I really need is a cardigan, but I have yet to find the right pattern. I think I am just too picky. I like Samus, but it is too bulky for the weather here. Candy might be OK, but I think I would stick to a solid color.

Knit backwards

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Knit backwards. I have some other backwards knitting links bookmarked, but I will have to post those later. I’m really behind on my homework and studying.
