Gettin my knit on

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Finally! Just like Kris, I too have gotten my knit-on.

I started on glove number two for Josh. The first one fits perfect and the second one just seemed to grow width-wise in the palm, so it is being reforged. Yes.

I also made some yarn purchases. I have resisted buying anything other than 100% cotton yarn for things for the kitchen. However, I bought some lovely wool/cotton blend at 70% off today. I got eleven skeins in salmon (or at least that is what the lady standing behind me told me) for a possible second and lighter Rogue* (or anything else) and five skeins in pink. I’m actually tempted to try over dying the salmon. I am going to play around with colors and a few strands here and there. Oh, and I decided that if I do Rogue again, I’m not doing the pocket. I never use it on my wool one as it is.

And I also need to knit a table runner and some place mats for the kitchen table. Josh has finished it and now it needs accessories. I will try for pictures tomorrow, though the chairs aren’t done yet. I know you all will get over that.

*It’s too hot here too much to wear my wool Rogue very long. I have seen and heard of a number of people using wool/cotton blends for Rogue. I’m crossing my fingers.

Go No Go

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

I’m currently no go for launch on the socks. I’ve managed to cast on my provisional cast on, but that is it. Josh managed to suck me into watching House last night. OK, so it was on and he was on his laptop, so I just kind of took my time going through sock patterns and got distracted by the show.

Today I got distracted by my dad’s tomato plants. They needed to be transplanted and that is what I have been doing up until about twenty minutes ago. Now I am continuing to try and clean the dirt from under my nails before I start knitting. I’m going with the same sock as last time, Wendy’s toe-up sock pattern. Hey, it’s easy and I like toe-up socks. Depending on the amount of yarn, I may make them longer than footies this go around.

The anticipation

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

I’m pacing the house and checking every fifteen minutes waiting to find out what my programming grade is. I hope he is going to be nice and post the grade on the class site rather than force me to wait for “report cards” to be posted on Tuesday. It is killing me.

So, in order to avoid checking every fifteen minutes, I am thinking I will knit myself a pair of socks. I still have work to do on the fish blanket, but because the fish can be knitted so quickly, it won’t serve the purpose I need. A sock will keep me busy for a while. I’m thinking of trying some of the patterns from some of the books I have or else something off of a website. I’ve yet to do cuff down socks, so I may give that a try. I do love me some toe-up technique, so I don’t know.

So, I have to do some knitting. I’ve cleaned as much as I can, so knitting is my only option!

Retail therapy

1564775704_.jpgI have been sick for the past few days, but today I ventured out into that mysterious land of Jo-Ann’s crafts. Why would I do such a thing? Hello.. 75% off the clearance price! I bought ten boxes of easter-egg dyeing kits. Why? For yarn of course. Speaking of yarn… I didn’t buy any! I bought a book, a magazine and the easter egg dyes. I was extremely proud of myself. I think if I had found any sock yarn on clearance, I probably would have snatched it up. Alas, I didn’t even pick up any of my beloved Angel Hair yarn. One of the most pleasant feeling synthetic yarns I have ever worked with.

You’ve got to be kidding me

Friday, March 31st, 2006

I have just discovered that there is a yarn store in my sister in law’s little town. It is actually 2.4 miles down the road from her, on the same road. /sigh

The closest damn thing to a yarn store in this town is Jo-Ann’s and Michaels. If I want to drive an hour and a half through some horrible traffic, I can go to one of the only two stores in a two hour radius. Even then, they are high priced and well, hoity-toity. I seriously wonder if opening a yarn store around here would be a profitable business. I think it would probably drive me crazy in the end, but it is still frustrating that there is nothing here.

Could it be

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

Oh my goodness… I am posting.

Even crazier news folks, I might actually get to do something crafty! I had been pondering the idea of making Il Cestino, but haven’t had the time. Now I see, the designer of many-a-mosaic patterns, Wendy Wannacott has posted a tutorial(.pdf) on mosaic (or slip-stitch) knitting. Soon to come is a tutorial for knitting them in the round. The little bowl is so damn cute. I don’t know what I would use something that tiny for, but it is tempting.

So, this might be something I get a chance to make. I’m trying to spend as much time as I can studying, but this might be one of those things I can take a break to do!

Now if only I can find a digital camera I like. I was hoping to hold out and justify to myself to buy an SLR, but I’m having a hard time doing so. I did find a nice sony, but I want to do more research. I am attracted to it by the 12x optical zoom. Bad me.

No time

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

I’ve been a bad crafter still. I just have no time lately for anything that I want to do. How sucky is that?

I’ve been thinking about giving a go at some either fair-isle or socks. I’m holding off finishing Josh’s second glove for various reasons. The main one being that he hasn’t flown in months. Work and family issues have kept him away from the field for a long time. He is too tired to go out on his days off. Anyhow, the warm weather is approaching, so I’ve got a good seven months before the gloves are actually needed. Plenty of time to work on other projects.

Bad me

Wednesday, January 4th, 2006

My name is miftik and I have been a bad knitter.

I really need to knit. I’m planning on doing a lot of knitting during my in between time at school. There isn’t any time to come home between classes, so I have a feeling I will be knitting in the library or student union often.

Here are the things I knitted this holday season. A small lap blanket for my great grandmother. A pair of wrist cuffs for AJ. A pair of small pocketbook slippers for Shalyn. A pair of cuffs (inspired by Mrs Beeton) for Brittany. A hat for Gabriel and a mini sweater for myself and one for my great grandmother.

Since my camera is a goner, I have to try and get the old mavica to work so I can take pictures. Otherwise it will be crappy camera phone shots later.

So, I’m not dead, I have just been very busy and trying to recover.

Klein

Sunday, November 13th, 2005

Someone on one of the LJ groups I am in was asking how to knit a mobieus scarf and also asked about a Klein bottle hat. Aha, I had a pattern (PDF file) for one in my bookmarks! Go me. I’ve had that on my list for a while, but haven’t had the time to get to it. I think my oldest brother would get a kick out of it. Maybe for his next birthday?

I am 180 stitches away from completeing my great grandmother’s gift. I’m not sure if I can work on it yet. My eyes are burning and I still feel miserable. Beavis this sucks. If my medicine kicks in, I will be all over it. I want to knock out presents this week. I have at least two more things to do after this. I’m not sure if I will have enough yarn for one of them. I think I might actually find some from the same dye lot though. Last time I saw, they still had some.

Yule

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

Ha, there is a Bad Juju knitalong. I’m really thinking about using it as a base to make a doll for one of the kids for Yule. I actually woke up and all of the sudden thought of something I should make for my baby nephew, Gabriel. Juju could be a good base for my idea.

The second glove is coming along. I’m almost done with the thumb gusset (three rows to go) and will begin the upper palm after that. Hopefully it will go fast like the first one did. I was hoping to try my hand at some socks again with this yarn but I think I will work on Yule presents first.

Does anyone have any ideas for presents? I’ve got ideas for one sister in law, one brother, and a nephew down, but that leaves, plenty of adults and kids to either make or buy something for.
