Coronet completed

Wednesday, October 5th, 2005

CoronetSeeing as how my brother doesn’t tend to read this area of my site, here’s a picture of his birthday present.

I have managed to finish this present with three and a half weeks to spare! He saw my finished Rogue and like the whole idea of cables, so he asked about a hat for his birthday. I showed him the pattern for Coronet and he liked it. The pattern was extremely simple. I also like that it can work for any gender with just a choice of color. I used some of my leftover fern colored yarn from my Rogue since it works well for both genders.

It came out bigger than my head (hence my not modeling it), but I think it will be fine for my brother. If all else fails he can either shrink it or give it back to me so I can shorten it.

Materials used:
US8 Circulars and DPNs
KnitPicks Wool of the Andes in Fern

Little Bookscarf

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

PoA BookscarfI made a tiny little PoA bookscarf. I didn’t add any fringe to it because I think it would look silly on it. These style scarves have very short fringe and so on a bookmark, it would look just too silly.

It was fairly simple, but I really hate using such tiny needles. They make a great tight fabric though, that’s for sure.

Pattern: PoA Bookscarf
Materials used:
US00 DPNs
Generic cotton crochet thread
A crapload of patience

Chlapotis

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

ChlapotisIn a fit to get my projects done, I finished the cheap clapotis for Brittany. I may give it to her this afternoon. That picture is a pretty accurate color representation, surprisingly.

I can’t say this pattern was terribly exciting. I don’t know how often Brittany will wear it, but she wanted it, so she can have it. I am glad I decided to do it in a cheap yarn first, because I am not sure if I want to make one in my nice yarn for someone. It just doesn’t seem practical and we know I am all about being practical.

Pattern: Clapotis from knitty.com
Materials used:
US8 Straight Needles
Caron Simply Soft (Autumn Red 9730)
Yarn needle

Finished that sucker

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

Rogue is done I finished sewing the sleeves and hem! Go me. I think I will block the shoulders, but otherwise it looks good.

Comments about the pattern: Holy crap is it great. I only wish there was more shaping in the body, but we can’t have it all. I once again recommend that you purchase sheet protectors and overhead markers. This is really handy for this pattern and all of its charts. The pattern is well written and easy to understand. I thought it would be above my head, but my biggest issues ended up being me not paying attention.

Comments about the yarn: I need to get some glycerin to avoid any possibly pilling. So far I haven’t noticed any, but I am looking to avoid it. While wearing it for a while, I did notice a bit of itching. It wasn’t bad, but it may go away in washing. The yarn stinks to high heaven when wet. I’ve experienced this with other wools, but the smell has eventually gone away.

US9 Circulars and straights
KnitPicks Wool of the Andes in Fern

Cuddly Pillow

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

My knitted pillow I have been trying to reduce my yarn stash before buying any random yarn. I’ve also been trying to knit practical items. I figured a good pillow would be nice.

Squishy Pillow + Angel Hair Yarn = Cuddly Pillow

Yum. It is loved by all and has been cuddled so much that it is already getting mishaped. Yay for something practical and wonderful!

Materials used:
US11 straight needles
Jo-Ann Sensations’ Angel Hair color 242
Generic squishy pillow

The Birthday Bag

Monday, June 13th, 2005

The Birthday Bag I finished the black bag for my sister in law’s birthday. She wanted me to embroider something on the side, but after I started it I decided it didn’t look too good.

Materials Used:
2 Skeins Patons Merino Classic (black)
US 11 Needles
7″ zipper (may change depending on bag size)
tapestry needle

Process:
Bag body:
Cast on 60.
Knit in St st for 92 rows.
Fold in half and sew up sides.

Handle:
Cast on 6.
Work I-cord to desired length. (I did 60 rows)

Sew handle to bag. Full until desired size/texture. Sew in appropriate sized zipper.

I thought about doing a button closure on it but opted not to because of my nephew’s age and insane ability to find things that shouldn’t go into his mouth.

The Green Bag

Saturday, April 16th, 2005

Green BagThe first bag I was actually asked to make to sell.

A friend of my parents (and mine for that matter) has a clothing shop. Apparently everything green has been going great. She didn’t have any green bags for the mannequins to hold, so she asked me to make one.

I totally freeformed this one and only recall a few basic things I did. I am currently making a similar bag, but I plan to do the hands completely differently.

Materials used:
Half a skein of Lion Brand Fishermen’s Wool
Green Kool-aid
10.5 DPNs

The Red Bag

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

Red BagI needed a knitting bag. I had seen a slip through bag once before, but couldn’t recall where.

I was bored one Sunday and decided to dye some yarn. I had quite a few packets of some cheap kool-aid knock off drink mix. I gave it a whirl and loved the colors it came up with. I made about five different skeins. Each of them was in a varying shade of red.

The base of the bag was done in the brightest red and I used the next lightest as I went up.

I managed to make this bag in about four or five hours. I was extremely bored at my mother’s store and just made it up as I went along.

Update: This was the bag I was looking for in the first place. Lion Brand also sells a kit for a the same Lucy bag.

Materials Used:
Lion Brand Fishermen’s Wool (dyed with red, orange, and yellow drink mixes)
10.5 US Circular
10.5 US DPN
