Clapotis

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

I had been pondering knitting a clapotis for a while, but never had a REAL urge to do so until recently. When I saw the silk yarn and thought about the yardage I was getting, I figured it would be nice to maybe knit one for someone I know. But, my problem now is that my elbow didn’t heal completely and I don’t want to “experiment” with my nice yarns. Hence, the no work on Rogue.

I’m going back in the sling, for lack of a more exciting phrase. I was picking up some socks from the bottom of the clothes bin and it started hurting horribly. So, I am back to knitting fairly simple things. I think the clapotis is something simple, but my silk yarn hasn’t arrived yet. I am giving it about another week, then I will start worrying.

I have plenty of acrylic on the shelves and I have seen a couple of clapotis knit from Caron Simply Soft and think they look good, so I’m using some Autumn Red (9730) and giving it a whirl. The eldest munchkin has expressed much interest in acquiring it. I will probably give it to her if it looks OK.

I did manage to knit something while my elbow was hurt. It was a cover for some pink throw pillows we had. I used the “pet” yarn from JoAnn’s and now everyone is trying to steal it. I’ve managed to hide it, but I have a feeling I may be making a few more of them just to get them to back off. I locked my arm to my side and knit fine that way, though a bit slower. Pictures will be available hopefully in the next day or so. The weather hasn’t been favorable for good picture taking lighting. I can get some of the most gorgeous natural lighting through one particular window.

So Wrong

It is so wrong, but so funny! Martha’s Coming Home Poncho, for your pet! Pamela, there is a crochet pattern too. You know you want to make some.

Oooh, pretty

My book came! My book came! Yeah for cables! Heck, I’m just excited to have this book in my collection. I’m thinking of making a library entry to list all of the craftish books I have. No, not that craft, most of those are in storage.

The arm is slowly getting better so I am hoping to reswatch for Rogue. I swatched some when my arm was just beginning to hurt, so I would feel more comfortable if I go ahead and reswatched it.

In crafty curiosity, does anyone have any idea what to do with a crapload of chopsticks?

Oh and my mom got a spinning wheel. Well, it was a spinning wheel vase. She got it for the flowers inside. Damnit, why can’t I be lucky and find a real one for dirt cheap.

Silky

Tuesday, July 19th, 2005

Oh how bad am I? I just bought 1200 yards of undyed silk yarn! It should arrive in a couple of weeks. I’m a spending fool. At least it will be on something worthwhile.

I am thinking of making a mini clapotis for my mother in law for Yule. It seems like something she might like. I’m wondering if the silk would be good for it. I know the pattern calls for a 50% wool/50% silk blend yarn, so we’ll see.

Pie Fight

Sunday, July 17th, 2005

Sorting through my bookmarks, I came across this lovely little link for a knitted pie. I think everyone needs a knitted Meringue pie, don’t you?

Felted Flowers

Sunday, July 17th, 2005

For future reference, I need to buy the following Pick Up Sticks Patterns: Calla Lilly, Daffodil, Iris, tigerlily, and tulip! Possibly the Sunflower & Gerbera Daisy. I’m not really all that smitten with that pattern.

Books

Sunday, July 17th, 2005

I just ordered a copy of Charted Knitting Designs: A Third Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara G. Walker. I have been eyeing it for a month now and there was someone who had a copy in an Amazon.com zShop and I bought it.

I’m excited about it. I recall someone adding the spider from the book to a Rogue and it looked pretty cool. It isn’t exactly something for me, but it might be fun on something else.

I also bought a book of knitting stitches and a copy of the summer issue of Interweave Knits. I didn’t like the patterns in the fall issue, but there were enough in the summer issue that it was a worthwhile purchase. I really like the knitting stitches book beause it goes into more detail than the ones I currently have and it has more advanced stitch patterns.

I haven’t done much of anything in terms of knitting due to my elbow. Hopefully it will be better by the time I get the book!

Sirius Lives

Someone posted some HP: PoA inspired wristbands to one of the LJ groups I watch. Sirius Lives and PawPrint.

Awwww.

Oh, and found via GadgetGirl, a cafepress store against SFSE. Free to Stitch, Free to BITCH!

Andes Arrival

Thursday, July 14th, 2005

I received my yarn order from KnitPicks on Monday but with my arm, updating was the least of my concerns. I will take pictures later. I have knitted with half of a skein already. Thankfully I don’t have to move my injured arm that much. I am working on getting gauge. I am currently going in the round after getting the proper gauge on straights. Right now it somewhat resembles a loin cloth.

I got the Wool of the Andes for a couple of reasons. Wanting wool is one of them, but the main reason was of course the price. I am not sure how I will do making Rogue, so I would rather mess up with $25 worth of yarn rather than over $100. If I am confident that I can do it again with no problem, I will splurge on different yarn.

So far it has knit up beautifully. It is moving smoothly on the Denises. I’ve not had any noticable reaction to the wool. I have had reactions to some natural fibers before, so I am was a little concerned.

I plan on ripping it out to start practicing the cables. I’ve been reading the Rogue pattern and I feel good about doing it. My only concern is going to be the backwards cables. I just have to remember to use lifelines!

Absolutely adorable PoA scarf bookmarks. I think I may make one for myself and possibly others.
