Finished Tempting

Monday, May 30th, 2005

My finished tempting sweaterI finally finished knitting Tempting. I did a little fudging here and there, but it is still cool with me. I need to get a wider ribbon for it. The only long ribbon I had was that purple. It serves it’s purpose though.

Does anyone else think it makes me look like a bar wench? I was happy that I did it in an acrylic yarn, as I would have probably been irked at using nice wool on something I probably won’t wear. Plus the more room I make in the yarn cabinet means the more nice yarn I can buy!

Materials Used
See Tempting pattern. I substituted the yarn in the pattern for 1.5 skeins of Caron Simply Soft in Bone (9703).

Not So Tempting

Friday, May 20th, 2005

I’ve been trying to finish the Tempting (from knitty) that I started and I for some reason have been having the hardest time with the second sleeve. I can do ribbing and I can use dpns. I can do ribbing on dpns. Today I just can’t seem to get the whole k2p2 thing going.

I have so little left to do, but I can’t seem to get moving in the right direction. I even tried knitting it on straight needles and it was just as bad.

It might have something to do with me not feeling well. I think my once very very mild allergies have blossomed and are trying to take me hostage. This I do not need.

I also frogged the Belle dress. I am just going to sew her a dress until I feel better. Either that or throw her into the bottom of the toy box. I haven’t quite decided which one I prefer.

Well, I am off to see Shalyn’s play. Apparently she is a lion. Fudge, I forgot to charge my batteries!

Acrylic yarn

When I scored a bunch of yarn at the thrift store, there was quite a bit of acrylic yarn mixed in with the good wool yarn. I have approximately the equivalent of two toy boxes full of just acrylic. Some of it is OK, but there is some in there that are just gawd awful. I think some of it will be used to make critter blankets. Acrylic is best for them, since it can be washed normal.

For the Lion Brand Homespun (acrylic), I am thinking of making the Beret. Brittany really liked it and I told her I might make it, if she behaves this summer. I may also make a triangle shawl, just because I really want to do something with the remaining three or four skeins of Homespun.

I don’t think it is necessarily a good idea to use Homespun for critter blankets. They tend to wear easily and make a mess in the wash. I had to take Skittles’ blanket away because she was kneading and wool sucking it too much. There is too high of a chance for her to ingest it. So it is currently being used for stuffing.

I just want to do something with the acrylic. I’ve given away quite a bit of it, but there is still so much! I really should re-inventory it all. Damn me and my organized ways.

Knitted Toys

Friday, May 13th, 2005

I was extremely excited when I first got the book Knitted Toys; 21 easy-to-knit patterns for irresistible soft toys, by Fiona McTague. However, now that I am really going through the book I am finding it frustrating.

The knitted toys are still adorable, but I think I was expecting more. The only thing it did is inspire me to knit is a dress for my niece’s Belle doll. The only reason for doing that is because somewhere along the line, the doll lost her clothes. I’m thinking of just a simple stockinette stitch skirt with a ribbed top would suffice.

I guess I was so excited that I skipped over the reality that every single thing is knitted flat and with tiny needles. Oh well, maybe the next book I get will be better.

Tissue Box Cozy

Tissue Box Cozy. A silly use for that fun fur that you have somehow acquired.
