DPN cases

Sunday, January 30th, 2005

DPN CaseJosh had a wool sweater sitting in the closet that was never going to be worn. Being the recycler that I am, I insisted on using it for something I had been thinking about for a while. I made individual double pointed knitting needle cases!

After the sweater was shrunk, I cut strips of the appropriate length and width for each size and quantity of needle. Then I placed some inexpensive plastic I purchased from the remnants bin along the bottom. This was done to block the needles from possibly poking through over time.

To seam up the sides I just used some bright embroidering thread and did varying stitches to add a bit of fun mixed with functionality. I just made a snip on the flap and an appropriately sewn button was added.

To distinguish which size needle resided in the case, I did some super-quick (ghetto-fied) embroidering on the flap.

Materials Used:
Old wool sweater (shrunk)
Clear plastic (bottom liner)

Dad Scarf

Sunday, January 2nd, 2005

Dad ScarfMy dad really needed a scarf, but since he smoked, it needed to be easily washed. I was leaning towards a superwash wool, but figured I would whip up something quick with a soft acrylic I had around and see if I liked that first. I was actually amazed that it was as soft and warm as it was.

It is a k2,p2 rib using two strands held together.

Materials used:
8US Straight

Little Big Blanket

Sunday, January 2nd, 2005

Little Big BlanketThis is the companion blanket to the Blanket of Doom. It was originally a sack for the kitty to sleep in, hence the curled edges. After the first night she began sleeping under it like a blanket, so I just unseamed it and put it over the cat. I decided to knit it flat for just this reason.

It’s a simple stockinette stitch with garter stitch along the edge

Materials used:
17US circulars
Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick 402 (Wheat)

Pet scarf

Sunday, January 2nd, 2005

My Pet ScarfI made a set of twin scarves for my sister in law and my cousin. Knit with two strands, it has a simple garter stitch border with a bit of stockinette stitch in the middle.

It is named the Pet Scarf because all you want to do is pet it. The yarn is 22% Wool, 50% Acrylic, and 28% Nylon. The nylon is what makes this scarf so fabulous. It is incredibly soft and warm.

Materials Used:
11US straight
Jo-Ann Sensations’ Angel Hair color 242
