Pirate Purse (Skull and Bones camera bag)

Skull camera case

Boredom and watching Pirates of the Caribbean one too many times led me to make a “Pirate Purse” as my nephew has dubbed it. It’s really a camera/everything else case.

I just knitted a rather long rectangle wide enough to fit around my camera and stitched up the sides and added a cord I already had to the top.

On the top flap it actually has a button hole. I haven’t found a button that I like yet, so I went cliche and used a giant safety pin as the button. It works and doesn’t look too bad, but I do want to do something different.

Materials used:
US Size 4 Knitting Needles
Red Heart “Super Saver” brand yarn in black and white

mini Gryffindor scarf

Another Gryffindor inspired scarf for my future nephew. I thought that since the other nieces and nephew have their Gryffindor scarves, my future nephew will need one too.

It is measures about two inches wide (doubled) and about two feet long.

Materials used:
US Size 6 Knitting Needles
Red Heart “Super Saver” brand yarn
No. 376 Burgundy
No. 321 Gold

Black and White Stripe Hat

Knitted Stripe Hat

Oh, boy. It’s my happy hat. I call it my happy hat because I got a little happy casting on and made it about four inches too big. I can comfortably tuck my hair under it and still stay warm. It think it could also double for a kitten bed. Oops.

It’s based off of the “Edith’s hat” that I used for the rainbow hat, but modified slightly.

Materials used:
US Size 9 Circular Knitting Needles, 16″
Red Heart Super Saver yarn in cream and black

Rainbow Hat

knitted rainbow hat

On clearance I found this cute skein of acrylic multi-color yarn. I couldn’t figure out what to do with it, but I knew I wanted to use a circular knitting needle, so I decided on a hat. I found a pattern on DIY.net, and modified it to fit my needs.

Materials used:
US Size 9 Circular Knitting Needles, 16″
Red Heart Super Saver multi color yarn (number unknown)

Knitted Wrist Cuffs

knitted wrist cuffs

After finishing a scarf for my mother, I thought I should make one for my father. I thought the cream color would be a good color for a guy, but I was soon disappointed. After about four rows I realized it was way too feminine for him. Instead of scrapping the project, I decided to make myself a pair of cuffs that actually worked quite well to keep the wind from going up my shirt sleeves.

It was made using Lion Brand Homespun Yarn Deco 309. It’s a really beautiful yarn, but not for my dad.

It’s about two and a half inches tall and about five inches around.

Materials used:
US Size 7 Knitting Needles
Lion Brand Homespun Yarn Deco 309

Mom’s scarf

A scarf for my mom

After seeing how warm the first Harry Potter scarf was, my mother decided she wanted a scarf done. After a trip to the store, she picked out some yarn and I had a new project.

It was made using Lion Brand Homespun Yarn Quartz 362. I don’t know why, but I think of caves when using this color.

It is doubled, about eight inches wide, and about six and a half feet long.

Materials used:
US Size 8 Knitting Needles
Lion Brand Homespun Yarn Quartz 362 (my skeins were darker than pictured on their site)

Yellow Tote Bag

Homemade yellow bag
I found a site with a tutorial for making cute tote bags and thought I would make some out of some of the fabric remnants I had in the material cabinet.

It is about a foot and a half wide and a foot tall. The handles are about eight inches tall.

Materials used:
Raincoat yellow vinyl
Blue Satin Ribbon
Fishing Line

Finger Knit Scarves

Finger knit scarves
I made a total of five of these, each using Lion Brand Homespun Yarns (see below for specific colors).
These yarns hide mistakes very easily and you can mix up a couple of the lengths to make a pretty thick scarf.

Each is about 1 inch wide and vary in length.

Materials used:
My fingers
Lion Brand Homespun Yarn Williamsburg 321
Lion Brand Homespun Yarn Deco 309
Lion Brand Homespun Yarn Baroque 322

Harry Potter Scarves, Two and Three

Thursday, June 3rd, 2004

Harry Potter inspired scarf
The next version of the Harry Potter scarves were my third and fourth projects.

I used the free pattern from Red Heart, but made them only half as wide and shorter for my niece and even shorter for my nephew. There wasn’t a need to make the scarf doubled as I did for the first one.

Each measures about six inches wide and about four and a half (and four feet) feet long.

Materials used:
US Size 8 Knitting Needles (the instructions call for 10 1/2)
Red Heart “Super Saver” brand yarn
Colors:
No. 376 Burgundy
No. 321 Gold
