Missing

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

I am feeling tons better. The nasal congestion is probably nearly 90% gone. I do feel mildly feverish. However, my voice is going and will soon be missing. This should make for an interesting time at work. Perhaps I should get a little whiteboard and create thought bubbles. It’s an idea, I suppose.

I’ve been emailing one of my younger cousins. She is reading the Twilight series and needs someone to talk to it about as Brittany was out of town. She’s managing a book every three days. It should slow down now that school is back in session. I’m guessing she will be reading book four by next week. She couldn’t give me a better explanation as to why she liked the book other than she liked Edward and Bella together. I suppose that will suffice for now.

Unlimited

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Upon visiting my parents’ house yesterday I discovered the kids’ wishlist. AJ’s wishlist was quite expensive. Apparently when speaking with my mom, AJ informed her that Santa has unlimited funds. Apparently my conversation with him last year on the truth of Santa did not stick. He is still under the assumption that Santa will be bringing him gifts. I hope he is not expecting much from his list. He isn’t old enough for most of the things on it. At the very top of the list is a Four-Wheeler. The second item on the list is a motorcycle. Silly boy

Can You Feel It

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Can you feel it people? The tides are changing. I’m sick and it is going to be nearly 80 degrees tomorrow. WTF?

I have no real desire to go do any Black Friday shopping. Of course the $150 Blu-Ray players would be nice, but I probably would have had to have been there at 3am. I was up at that time though. My throat felt like someone had shoved hot coals down it. It still hurts, but not nearly that bad.

I do need to run to the grocery store. We are nearly out of decongestant and with me just starting to get sick and Josh still sick, we need more. We also need groceries, but that may have to wait until tomorrow. I’m not sure I want to tackle such a job on my own.

The kitties have discovered that they can open the cabinet doors on their own. We are doomed. Thankfully the only cabinets they can really get into are under sinks. Any cleaning products under the sinks are in bins, so they should be fine. However, the smallest kitten still has issues getting the cabinet door open once she is in it. I think I hear her now.

Edging toward dorkiness

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I’m trying to determine some way of using my employer to get me into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter before it opens. One of my co-workers and I are edging toward dorkiness in our renewed interest. We have been bringing in movies to watch at lunch and last week we started watching the Harry Potter movies. We made it through a third of Goblet of Fire yesterday. Today it was a much smaller group. so we watched the Matrix. My mouth dropped when I realized that the Matrix is almost ten years old. It is crazy how time flies! Josh and I have been married for almost nine and a half years. Craziness.

I pulled the BlogHer ads from the side bar. In its place is my last.fm recently played widget and a twitter badge. I’m not sold on either one, but at least I feel like I am contributing more towards this site than I have been. Forgive me readers for I have blog sinned. Sorry.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the US. I know it has turned into a bloated holiday, but there is still a little meaning in it. I’m thankful for my family, my friends, my ability to love and make people smile.

Oh, I nearly forgot. I went searching for boots. I found a pair that I liked, but for the cost, they did not make me feel like Velvet Jones did. They weren’t anything like any of my old ones. I rocked my old ones quite nicely. I’m holding out for some of those. They had the perfect heel and the perfect toes. I am starting to think I am too picky.  Too bad I couldn’t get away with wearing any of my Dr. Martens. I’ve got plenty of those.

Things are entirely too quiet in the house. I need to investigate.

Trying

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

I am trying to post more often and hopefully with a bit more meat to my entries. It will take a while to get back into it, so work with me.

Techie talk: I’m trying to find a version of the iTunes coverflow (flash or java, doesn’t matter) that will allow the viewer to, upon clicking the center image, visit a web page associated with said image. I have the process mapped in my head, but I want to make it as easy as possible to have someone else swap the images. Therefore, I’m looking to see if someone else has beaten me to the process. The only caveat is that it must be flash of javascript driven. That’s where my google-fu has been failing me. Perhaps I have been distracted and my fu is not strong today. I will try again tomorrow.

Shoe talk: I was informed not once, not twice, but three times today that my outfit needed knee-high boots. I don’t disagree. This thought passes through my head every time I see any of my warm skirts. I used to have some awesome ones, but they have since been sacraficed to the shoe bobs.

This of course leads me to a dream I had last week. I was shopping for a pair of boots and found a pair I was unsure of. The sales person helping was Eddie Murphy, dressed normal but channeling his Velvet Jones character. He insisted that the shoes looked fabulous on me. I can’t even think of the correct words anymore. I remembered it when telling my co-worker, but now not ten minutes later I had forgotten.

Blog/music talk: I’m seriously leaning towards dropping the ads on the side of the site. Most of you read this through other means, so I don’t feel it is beneficial. I’ve redownloaded the Last.fm scrobbling client and can finally update that stuff. I tend to play more music at work, so maybe I can use it there. I’ve found some pretty cool music via Last.fm and I am now finding more through myspace as well. Go me.

That is a quick recap. Like I said, I’m trying to add a little more to my posts. There is over 11.5 years worth of material on miftik.com, so perhaps I am entitled to a little loafing time. Look at me, trying to be young and a part of the new entitled generation.

Handstands

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I’ve got that blasted song from the iPod commercials stuck in my head. The handstands one.

I had to make a trip to the store to get tissues and sick people supplies for Josh. I went ahead a picked up some batteries and a pair of headphones. They are noise-canceling. So far so good. They muffled the sound of the stereo and subwoofer in the house. That is no small feat either.

I now plan on my day being much better tomorrow!

Music

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I listened to the Twilight Soundtrack today (thanks B).  I had to give it a chance considering that it had Perry Farrell on it. I was surprised to find that one of the songs I liked was actually being sung by the actor playing Edward, Robert Pattinson (whom I have been calling Robert Patterson for some time, sorry).  This will be an odd comparison, but it reminds me of Thom Yorke of Radiohead. Not in style, but in its tone and emotion. I suppose you could say it is the love child voice of Thom Yorke and Bob Dylan’s voices. As I said, odd comparison. I’ve done a little more research and found some live stuff he has done. That music leans more towards the Dylan side of things. Anyhow, the song was emitting sad emotions, so that didn’t help improve my morning.

I woke up frustrated at not being able to find my favorite headphones and my frustration continued at my discovering that my transmitter was dead. I listened to regular radio through one Pearl Jam song and then had to shut it off. There just wasn’t anything on that appealed to me. I was appeased later in the day when I listened to an odd, but interesting radio station in the Netherlands. Eventually I settled on Queen’s Radio and all was well.

Now, I am home and must tend to a sick Josh.

This is a hello message for my man Niel.

So clean

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

This afternoon I cleaned off my desk hutch and removed it. I have also removed the keyboard tray from my desk. I like it a lot. I have plugged in my new external HD and will eventually start moving some of my movies over to it. I’m attempting to organize them properly as I do it. So it will be a long process.

I’m just enjoying the “new” desk. I found a metal and glass desk that I liked at Office Depot. Unfortunately, Josh wasn’t all that fond of it. We would like our desks to match, so we must come up with something together. I think I was attracted to the price. It was discounted, a lot. I am unable to find it online, so I suppose it is being discontinued. Oh well. It was attractive, in a clean lines kind of way.

I suppose I should finish making dinner. Nothing fancy, just food. I’m tired and Josh is thinking he is getting sick. I’m not sure he’ll taste whatever I make anyway.

Fraud

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

On Thursday I noticed a pending charge for $0.24 in my checking account. Knowing that Josh had purchased items recently, I thought it was possible that he ordered them with the debit card and not the credit card. He swore that he hadn’t. I eventually found a super secret customer service number (it was close to midnight) and called it. It was for a pet supply store in NY. That set off alarms. The rep was very nice and told me exactly what to do. I waited and the charge disappeared. It reappeared this morning as a full charge. So, I got on the phone with the bank again (they picked up after one ring, I was impressed) and they immediately got me on with someone in the fraud department. So, the card in question has been canceled and a fraud investigation has begun. The first person I spoke with said she had spoken with seven people already. The fraud specialist said she was nearing 20.

As I was speaking with a the fraud department, I started searching the information they were giving me. I came up with this page. The comments appear to have exploded over the past couple of days. I’m just glad I caught it. So many people don’t check their statements that who knows how many people they are taking $0.24 from. The interesting thing I found on this page was that the people leaving comments were all from varying banking institutions.

I twittered this earlier today, but am just now getting around to posting about it. Sorry.
