The Doctor
Whoa. I’m a little sad after hearing the latest Doctor Who news. I’ll just leave it at that.
Whoa. I’m a little sad after hearing the latest Doctor Who news. I’ll just leave it at that.
The weather is getting chilly. The high temperature for tomorrow is 65°F. That’s borderline cold here. Wow, I actually remembered the code for the degree symbol. I should use it more often.
I’m having CSS issues at work. There are finicky java scripts that I can’t mess with, so I am trying to use css to override and do what I need. Unfortunately, there is also CSS in the code that I can’t change. This does not make it easy for me. I have a self imposed deadline of solving my issue by tomorrow afternoon, but I have a meeting tomorrow that could take a while and other projects that need to be completed as soon as possible. No stress.
On the home front, the kittens have established me as their food provider. Today when Josh arrived home, they didn’t pester him for food. However, when I walked into the door ten minutes later, I was mobbed by hungry kitties. They are too darn cute. They are much more comfortable with us, so they will come to us. They are especially cuddly when they are hungry. I managed to put SoftPaw nail caps on all of the kittens by waiting until just before dinner time. They were not happy, but they didn’t struggle as bad as one would expect. One of the kittens has already plucked two of the nails off. I was running out of the glue when I did his, so I expected as much.
Heroes was pretty good this evening. So far this season is turning out better than last. Of course the writers strike last season didn’t help matters. In other television news, there is rumour of Catherine Tate’s “Lauren Cooper the teenager” coming to America. If you haven’t seen her Lauren Cooper, check out the Dr. Who tie-in in this YouTube clip from the 2007 Comic Relief bit.
I am going to try to go in to work tomorrow. I’ve only had a minor fever tonight. I still feel a little bit of nausea, but I’ll survive. Josh is now complaining of the symptoms that I started with. Hopefully it isn’t the same thing. Of course I just realized he is off tomorrow, which means he’s going to be up late.
Tonight we have the kittens and the evil princess sleeping in the same room. Normally we keep them separated due to the evil princess not liking the kittens near her. They managed to all sleep on the bed with me this morning, so I think it is time to try it. I’m just worried that she will work herself into an asthma attack or something worse from the hissing and growling at them all night.
In other news, I’ve been trying to convince Josh that I need a T-Mobile G1 (running the android platform). My wanting one is just me being a dork. I think if I got one for free it would be fine, but I am having a hard time convincing Josh that we should spend the money and/or go into a phone contract. We haven’t been under a contract for about five years. It has been nice knowing we can switch if we want without having to pay.
Maybe one day.
I came home from work after two hours. I’m just plain sick. I felt fine this morning. I guess I looked a lot worse than I felt. Once I got home, my body went crazy. My fever is at 102.1 right now. I’m surprised I am able to write somewhat coherently. My vision is a little funky though.
I’ve discovered that I don’t really like ginger ale. I need something to drink and water keeps making me vomit. I am half way through a glass and it seems to be working. Now if only my head would stop hurting and if my body would stop aching. I’m terrible at being sick. I can’t settle down and allow my body to heal.
Thirty one years ago my mother gave birth to me. Thirty one! I don’t feel old. I feel experienced. That’s a good thing.
Josh and I went out for dinner at the little Mexican restaurant about ten minutes away. I ate way more than I should have, but I was extremely hungry tonight.
We bought a Wii Fit a couple of weeks ago. I’ve managed to use it once. Josh gets to use it almost daily. Usually by the time I get home, finish making dinner and eating it, Josh is on it. Then by the time he is done, the one show I watch a night comes on. So, I seem to not have enough time to Wii.
In other news, we will be keeping the kittens. The local no-kill shelters are full. These little guys (and girls) weren’t saved and loved to be put to sleep. So, we’re just going to have to figure something out when it comes to vacations etc. They are doing better. Two are hesitant still about interacting with humans, but the other two have no problem. Go figure.
Monday, Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton will be visiting. They are expecting at least 20,000 people. It would be interesting to observe, but it is on one of the days at work that I have to be near death to miss.
I forgot to mention that I posted pictures of the furniture. Now you can see just how Ikea-fied my house has become. It was not intentional. I only really wanted the Granemo* cabinets, but what I got was a lot more. Any links with an asterisk is a link to the Ikea page.
We purchased a sectional Karlstad couch* because it was the only sectional that we found that we liked and knew we could repair should the need arise. The pillows* are feather and poly filled. They are quite squishy and nice to rest on.
We originally had both Granemo* cabinets on this wall, but it was too much. We are still searching for something to go on either side. This one holds media (in the wood Mackis* boxes), paperwork (the green Kassette boxes*), office supplies and my Nightmare Before Christmas pieces. The other cabinet holds books and some records. There are a few trinkets inside the cabinet as well. I love the glass doors.
For the television, we hacked together a Liden TV stand* and two sets of Capita kitchen cabinet legs* to come up with a TV table to go on the hearth.
Our old dining room table was very big and round. Though it was functional, it took up a tremendous amount of space. So, we purchased a Norden dining room table* along with Bertil chairs* and put it near one of the Granemo cabinets. The next day it was decided that we should go ahead and get the little Norden table* for the kitchen along with two more Bertil chairs. It is the same height as the dining room table. This will allow us to not only use the leaf in the dining room table, but we can add the kitchen table in as well.
So, that is it for now. I need to take photos of the bedroom, but that is a weekend task due to optimal lighting conditions being during the day. So, maybe next weekend I will take some photos.
It took a bit of research, but I finally found the right television for my dad. He now has a Panasonic 32″ LCD tv for the bedroom. It was within the price range and is perfect for the bedroom. We set it up and explained to him about digital channels etc. The first channel it went to was FOX so he could watch the game. He had a huge smile on his face. He hadn’t realized the difference in quality between regular tv and hdtv. I doubt he will ever watch games in the family room until he replaces that tv. It isn’t in bad shape, so it will be a while.
We purchased it from H.H. Gregg. The salesmen at the location nearest to my parents were extremely pushy, except the one that helped us. He wasn’t pushy at all. Someone else was trying to go over him and sell us something more expensive. I just told him that I did my research and that model didn’t make the cut. He had a “you’re a bi*ch” look on his face when I walked away. Josh is thinking they are probably car salesman that have lost their job and are now working in retail sales.
Overall, I think my dad will be happy with the TV. I am hoping everything goes fine with it. He seems really happy. We tested the DVD player with “The Man with the Golden Gun” and he thought it was awesome.
Of course in doing all of this research, I’m thinking we can move our current TV into the bedroom and then get a bigger and badder TV for the living room. Josh doesn’t agree. I kind of fell in love with a few TVs that weren’t available when we purchased ours. I can wait. Yes, I can.
Last night Josh and I went to a birthday party for one of Josh’s co-workers. Rock Band was played and I sucked arse when they started playing random. I don’t know the words to any Kansas songs and we got this weird David Bowie song. It also reinforced my need to get my eyes checked. I had a hard time reading the words on a 50″+ tv. Yep. I’m getting old.
My dad has realized that he needs a new bedroom TV. He wants Josh and I to help him pick one out. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can justify to myself the type of TV he wants. He wants something big and sharp. I understand that as he is getting older, it is getting harder to see things. However, he listens to the TV more than he watches it. In my head I can’t justify recommending a more expensive TV that he won’t use. He doesn’t even have digital cable in the bedroom, so the logic area of my brain is starting to whir from the circles it is running.
I’ve researched lower end models and I am intrigued by AOC models, but I can’t recall having every watched one. I found that Circuit City carries them, so I may go in to watch one. I’m interested in seeing how it does with basketball. That is the fasted sport my dad tends to watch.
On the higher end, I am leaning towards Sony, Samsung or Toshiba. I know the Toshiba Regzas were previously ranked as Consumer Reports’ top LCD pick because of the quality and cost. Still, I think for the size he wants, it is too expensive for the little amount of TV he watches.
I suppose I will keep sifting through the reviews to find ones that actually review products to find out any issues people have had. I’ll report back if he decides on anything.
Things have been super busy. Busy at home with cleaning and with visits from my family all weekend. Busy at work with usual business.
Today I received my cell phone bill and found a charge for $9.99 for a premium service. Apparently this company named SJA mobile was able to charge my account after they sent spam text messages. Seeing as we didn’t subscribe to anything, it was very annoying. My cell phone company was pretty nice about it. I kept my cool on the phone and they were more than willing to help me. I got the charges pulled and the number blocked. I’m ready to get my google-fu on and put the smack down if I have to. I have people. My people can find people.
