Towards Goodbye

Friday, September 26th, 2008

I’ve been mildly sad the last few days. The kittens are fast approaching the point where they will be adopted out. I want very badly to keep them, but I know we can’t have five cats right now. I mostly fear that they won’t be taken care of as well as they would if they were with us. I suppose that is something we all fear when we’ve been taking care of them. It doesn’t make the situation any easier when they are so sweet and adorable. Hugo has taken to head butting me and nuzzling my face without my prodding. Dini just collapses in my hands. Spot has to nuzzle in close for a nap. Even little timid Sawyer has taken to cuddling. So, I’ll be taking a lot of photos of them and spending as much free time with them as I can. I’m going to miss this lot.

The Wheel

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

I have been working hard on projects for work. I’m trying to be innovative with some of the things I am doing, but I’m not up for reinventing the wheel. Adobe has some stuff that is proving quite useful. Unfortunately the stuff I want to use requires a newer version of the software that I have. I have that version here at home, so I’m going to pull them up and look at it. I priced out the CS4 suite today. Somehow I’m not sure that they will be up for spending $1700 on software for me just yet. I’ll wait until I am off of the six month probation/trial period. That’s only about five weeks away. I can handle that.

The kittens were all fixed on Tuesday. I’ve been trying to console the girls. They both keep messing with their incision sites, so we’ve had to e-collar them. They seem to be depressed today. I guess I would be too if I was in their situation.

I’m planning on trying to get photos of the couch and everything on Saturday. We’ve had something or another happening every day, so I haven’t hadĀ  chance. Sunday is Gabriel’s fourth birthday. It seems like just yesterday he was born. My newest niece is growing very quickly. She’s so cute. She played with me a bit last Sunday. She loves to watch everything going on. Babies are cute at this stage. As long as their diapers are clean.

TV has been interesting. We broke down and ordered cable last Saturday. I have missed Mythbusters. Josh loved watching the race in HD. I’ve been watching Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Fringe, Bones, House. Next week Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone start. This should be plenty to get me through the lack of Doctor Who and Torchwood!

Oh My Awesome

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

This afternoon before I left for an appointment, I asked if I could get my e-mail client upgraded and they did it! Due to my leaving early for the day, I have only been able to access the web portion but I’m already having fun. I’m excited to start playing around with the client on my machine at work. There is already someone else in my office with the upgrades, but she isn’t a techie like me. Otherwise work has been busy, but good. That is always nice.

We are picking up the couch this Saturday. It has been here all week, but between Josh and I, we haven’t been able to pick it up. Saturday will give us more time to finish setting everything up. Hopefully I will remember to get photos.

Hrm. It would seem I need to extract an adorable little kitten from my curtains. They seem to only be interested in climbing the really old curtains (the last pair that came with the house). I suppose I should be thankful that they haven’t clawed up my nice ones.

Amusing ourselves

Friday, September 12th, 2008

I don’t normally talk about work in much detail. But this entry is one that definitely calls for it. Work has been a wee bit stressful for some of my coworkers. There is a big event going on and because they are the event group, they’ve been stressing some.

Work can be amusing

A large box was left in front of my cube and I promptly asked if it was trash. It was. I whipped out my trusty little leatherman squirt and set about fashioning myself a door. After I made my door, one of the graphic designers decided I needed shrubs. It went crazy after that. My five minutes spent making to door turned into a good bit of stress relief for my coworkers. I’m glad I could help.

I ended up with a door complete with a peephole and hinges. Two windows (with a ghostly looking girl in one of them), a flowering shrub with a blue-bird sitting in it. A mailbox, with mail and a recycling bin.

The number at the top is my extension. No one could figure it out due to the fact that in my office we generally scream for each other.

I don’t know if the cleaning crew will dismantle it and take it to be recycled, but I borrowed a camera from a coworker and snapped a few shots to preserve this moment of childishness that overtook all of us.

Work and Stuff

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Work has been keeping me busy and the house has as well. We decided to just go ahead and purchase the furniture we had been putting off buying. The couch still hasn’t arrived. We did buy a new dining room table and chairs with a matching little table for the kitchen. I bought the bed and dresser that I had wanted from Ikea. I do believe Josh likes it. He set the bed up to the highest height. Now his feet don’t touch the ground when he sits on the side. Needless to say, I have to remember how far from the ground I am when I wake up in the morning.

We’ve been getting a bit of bad weather here today. Hurricane Ike’s outer rain bands are reaching us here and this evening there were tornadoes. One touched down very close to my parents’ shop. They hadn’t gone to check on it as of about 7pm tonight, but I will keep my phone near me in the morning in case I get a call.

The Large Hadron Collider debuted last night. If I recall correctly, it wasn’t a full test. That comes in 09. The geek in my was enjoying the few moments of science that overtook the news. All I hear about is either Sarah Palin or Casey Anthony. Neither of which I find of much interest. It is sad that the little girl is missing, but I have seen her picture enough to know if i see her on the street, I’ll give the police a ring. However, I think that is probably unlikely.

Hannah

Monday, September 1st, 2008

As I sit here this Labor day, I dread the next weekend. The changes in weather areĀ  making Hannah look like she’ll be heading this way. That means work for me and work for Josh. So Hannah, stay away! Please!
