Well, there went a paycheck.
This past week Josh and I have spent the equivalent of one of my paychecks. It is depressing but at the same time somewhat nice. Josh got something he really wanted and I got something I really wanted.I got a new computer*.
Normally Josh would build a computer, but this was a pretty good deal. We went originally looking to pick up a new printer, but came across an HP Pavilion on clearance. It was a model from last year’s holidays, but still a pretty nice machine. So, with the monitor from yesterday and the new computer today, I’ve got a new machine!
The printer was a steal. It is the same model that we currently have. Unfortunately the plastic cover on the heat roller went wonky and then caused some other problems. Considering how much printing I did on this printer when I was in finishing school, I’m actually surprised it lasted as long as it did.
I had spotted our printer previously when I was picking up something a few months ago. It was marked down to $90, because it is now a discontinued model. Yesterday I mentioned to Josh that I wanted to go and see if they still had it. Well, we went and they did. It was still marked at $90, so I picked it up. Then we found the computer. We started to check out and when the price of the printer came up, Josh and I looked at each other. It had been marked down again. We got it for just under $54! Score! When we bought the original one it was about $200. Yay for clearance.
So, I’ve got a new computer. Josh is wiping Vista off of the machine and loading XP for me. I just finished moving files and backups from this machine to the server. I’m going to have a busy night between laundry, cleaning and loading all of my applications.
*I typically get the hand me down computer from Josh (the gamer in the house), so getting a new computer is freaking awesome!
Well, I didn’t see that coming. Josh and I watched the season finale of Dr. Who today. I’m still digesting, but there was some interesting bits. I won’t say much. Just whoa.
So, in other news, I’ve got this idea in my head. It is perfectly simple yet so complex. Basically I am trying to justify to myself why it won’t work. I’ve got in my head a way in which we would interact with computers three dimensionally. Yeah, the engineering geek is chugging away. I haven’t been feeling well this afternoon and evening, and this is what I get.
I bought a new monitor today. I lost two a half pixels in two weeks. The half pixel is because while I didn’t necessarily lose it, it was displaying blue. I managed to score a 19″ widescreen for $160. It was on sale plus an instant rebate. It is quite s3xor. The only bad thing is that my graphics card is not able to take advantage of the full capabilities of it. We have another one somewhere in the house that I will probably install tomorrow. Hopefully that one works better.
The kittens are well. One of them (Spot) was sick last night, but he is doing well today. They’ll be visiting the vet soon in any case. They are much more comfortable around humans now.
