Catching up

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Whoa. Six days without a post. I’m getting back in to my old ways. That’s not good.

Things have been busy here. Mostly cleaning up and working. My evil princess hasn’t been feeling well. I think it is a bit of a protest due to my changing her dry food. She’s spoiled and we (I) am trying to break her of it.

We bought new 1TB drives for the server. Best Buy had the one we wanted on sale for less than anywhere we saw online.  I’m kind of wishing that we had bought their last one for myself. Josh says I can have the old drives that were in the server, but 1TB would be nice to have. I suppose that would make me spoiled! I’ll save the money for a new monitor. I’m slowly losing vertical lines of pixels on the right side of the screen. When I maximize an application in Windows, I can only see to the left half of the X (close) button.

At work I’ve been messing around with Flash. I haven’t played with it too much lately. I had one freelance job a couple of months ago that required some Flash work, but it wasn’t anything intense. I have a really goofy/creative idea for a presentation for work. I have to run it through the multimedia guys first to see if they’d want to do it. I’m all for comedy.

The kittens are doing well. They’ve begun exploring more and have discovered the bathroom sink. It has apparently become their preferred napping spot. There are pictures, but they aren’t posted yet. They had some skin issues. I first thought it was ringworm, but it seems to be more flea related. They’re pretty much clear of fleas. There is nightly combing. For their fine hair, a lice comb actually works better than a flea comb. The comb has to be moved parallel with the skin so that the flea doesn’t “escape” the comb.

Friday is Independence Day. A lot of the cities in Central Florida are putting on Fireworks shows. Josh and I are both off, so we are debating what to do. The Coke Zero 400 is this Saturday in Daytona.  There is also a Peter Murphy concert that Sunday. I don’t think I could do the Peter Murphy concert and still make it to work on Monday. I’m four weeks away from being able to actually take any time off if I want or need to. Right now I take off by skipping lunch. It works.

Well, that seems to be about it. I’m tired and it is thundering. Maybe I’ll convince Josh to help me move stuff under the TV table we made. That way I can take some pictures and finally write up our Ikeahack.

George Carlin died? Ruuuufus!

Hiding

Friday, June 20th, 2008

It is storm outside right now. I just checked the radar and there is a bunch of pink on it and holy carp it is hitting now. I hope Josh is OK. He is on his way home now.

I’m suffering from a wicked terrible headache right now. I know it is from lack of sugar today. That will do it. OK, shutting down computer now.

Fourth

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

Happy father’s day to all.

Good news to report this Sunday. I have successfully retrieved the missing kitten. Holy smokes is it a fighter. I was so worried I would drop it and I only had a foot to take it.

I’ve also determined that the brown tabby shorthair looking one is a boy. He loves to sleep.

Kitten pictures

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

I took a very quick picture of the kittens now that they are in the large kennel. They have eaten a little bit and are hopefully resting. I am going to try some food again in a few hours. I have still been unable to cat the fourth kitten. It looks remarkably like Middle. So cute.

Perspective photo. That is your standard plastic Target/Wal-mart bowl. Notice how the kittens could easily use the bowl as a bed? I’m having a hard time standing the cute.

Three of Four

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Well, I managed to get three of the four kittens. They are so freaking tiny. Josh and I have already begun socializing them with humans. We’re spending alone time with each of the kittens. Pictures later. I haven’t taken any since I got them. I’m hoping to still get kitten number four. It escaped from the garden shed, so I don’t know where it is. OK, more later

One. Two. What?

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I went out to feed Middle this evening when I got home. Middle is pretty much ours. He doesn’t leave our yard and comes when I go out. Well, when I went out I saw Middle’s mom. She wasn’t alone! There was a kitten. The kitten ran off and I yelled to Josh that there was a kitten.

So, I’ve been on kitten watch this evening. I saw a kitten pile of three and got uber excited. When Josh came in, he spotted a fourth one! Squee! I’ve set up an acme style system to close the back patio door if they come on the back patio.  They’ve eaten, so hopefully they will come on the back porch. I have to get them very soon. I logged when I saw momma and the changes in her body. By my estimate, the kitten should be about six weeks. I have a very short amount of time to get them so that they can be tamed.

I managed to grab some pictures, but between the thunder storm that popped up and it getting dark, they aren’t that great. I’ll post them when I get it done.

Oh, and the TV table is in place. Now we just have to get all of the electronics in place.

Nine

Nine years ago today Josh and I both cut out of work early and got married.  Olive Juice Josh.

I used to

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Argh. I had just written a lengthy comment on someone’s site and I accidentally closed the page before I submitted my content. DOH! Argh.

I’m not that fond of the new Coldplay album1. I put the album into my daily rotation over a week ago and it still hasn’t grown on me. I was talking to a co-worker on Friday and I made the statement that I just wasn’t liking it and she said, “But the songs on the radio are pretty good.” Unfortunately, those are the only few songs that I have any inkling of interest in. Viva la Vida (the one from the iTunes commercial) is enjoyable to me mostly due to my love of theatrical scores. It has a nice build up. I like that.

The new Alanis Morissette album Flavors of Entanglement is about the same. I think there was only one song that peaked my interest. There wasn’t a good flow in the music. Lots of peaks and valleys in the mood of the music. I see a lot of potential in a number of her songs as dance music.

Thanks to Kris (and her to some extent her cousin Jenny), I’ve seen the trailer for Twilight and now I know I am screwed. Brittany is going to be non-stop about this movie. She loves the books and can’t stop faffing about them. She wasn’t very happy about the choice of Robert Pattinson for the character of Edward. I wonder if she will change her mind once she sees the movie. Probably.

1. I’m not an actually Coldplay fan, but I tend to give all music a try. If I like something, I like it.

Swollen

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

My shoulder is hurting and it is a little swollen and tender. I don’t know what I did to it which makes it worse because now I don’t know if I will do the same thing again and hurt it even more. /sigh

I had a talk with my cat about ceiling cat today. I figured it was time. I think she may have left a little more confused than when she asked. At least now she has the basics. Right?
