Upset Dictators

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

I found this quite amusing. The Torchwood Season 2 finale makes Hitler really upset (YouTube link). Keep your volume down a bit and have your glasses on. Definite spoilers in the video!

I was quite amused.

Oh My Whoa

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Watching LOST. Awesome.

Oh. Wow.

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Wow. Um. Wow. Harvey Korman has passed away. First Sydney Pollack, now Harvey Korman. The talent is slowly fading from this world and it makes me very sad.

Ikacking

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

This weekend has been busy for Josh and I. Mostly we spent time together. We did little projects around the house and made a couple of road trips. We picked up some various parts from Ikea and are hacking together a TV stand to sit on the fireplace hearth. I’m saving all of that for a post when we are done. I’ve been taking pictures of the process, but I think it will be the weekend before we can actually get the television on this thing.

It will pain us to do it, but we will be painting it. It is Aspen, but the wood just won’t go with our paint scheme in the room. Sad. I know.

I’m battling a bad headache. Not anything like a week or so ago, but pretty bad.  It started on the drive home and has been going on for almost four hours. Not so cool.

I think I’m going to go spend a little more time with my husband before my headache makes me insane.

Purchases

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Josh and I purchased a new TV on Thursday. We got it and I set it up that night. Friday afternoon Josh discovered its awesomeness and the awesomeness hasn’t stopped yet for either of us. I was thoroughly freaked out when we watched the Diamondbacks/Braves game this afternoon. Randy Johnson is cool and all, but HD is not kind on the close-ups. Bob help me during the race tomorrow.

I had a rule about the purchase of a new television. Basically it had to be a REALLY good deal on a specific brand and model. Of course two days after I made my proclamation to Josh, I discovered that a deal meeting all of my requirements popped up. Score.

Today we bought a new dvd player but we were quite disappointed when we got it home, plugged in, set up, and then put a disc in. Lots of whirring and clicking that usually happens when a drive is going bad. It plays, DVDs. But the noise is unbearable. Unfortunately by the time we got everything done and we discovered this, it was too late to return it. I told Josh we are going first thing in the morning tomorrow. Lucky for him that it will be Sunday and everything opens later.

So, we have bought something new for the inside of the house and now I think the next thing should be something for the outside, like a shed.

Awesome

Flat

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Last night I seriously considered buying a 50″ plasma tv. The price was beyond good. It was a model from last year, but still rated pretty highly. Then the practical side of me kicked in. While it was about what we planned to spend on a 42″ lcd tv, it was way too large. Then there was the whole issue of getting it home. Delivery wasn’t available and neither car would fit something that size. So, the better side of me won out.

My cat is completely wiped out. I think it is from the shock of her litter box being clean. She kind of went overboard with her litter usage and ran out. It smelled horrible, but this morning I bought more litter, enzyme cleaner and an odor absorber. Now it smells so much better near her litter box.

I watched the movie Untraceable today. I had to fast forward through some parts. It was decent in that it echoes how effed up we are these days.

My neighbors are putting up their fence today. They mentioned a month or two ago that they were going to do it. Once we started cutting down all of the air potato that was overtaking our yard, it kind of gave us a clear view into their yard. I don’t think they liked that. I imagine it had to do with us being able to see them if they decided to go swimming. I’m cool with it. I didn’t especially like being able to look into their yard. We still have plenty of growth providing us with privacy on all of the other sides! Maybe now that they have the fence done, I’ll be more motivated to start digging out more of the crap in our yard.

Cupcake Cake

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I don’t know what caused me to think of it, but yesterday at work I started thinking about ways to make a giant cupcake as a birthday cake. I think that it would be pretty neat. The weird part about this was that I was working on converting pages that had nothing to do with food as I was planning the cake in my head.

Today was pretty interesting at work. I should say the first half was. Today was bike to work day and I was psuedo recruited to issue waters to the folks that showed up on their bikes to my work. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough water, so I had to run and get more. There were a lot more riders than were expected. I think I read somewhere that there were around 85, but possibly more.

There was other stuff going on outside in addition to bike to work that made it pretty much a little street party outside. There was lots of silliness and me being playfully picked on by a guy in an inflatable costume! It was a nice break from the ordinary.

Speaking of breaks, I am thinking I will take one and go watch LOST. I am two episodes behind and want to catch up.

First Time Fat

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

For the first time in a long time, something is changing. Normally the top search words that lead many people here are related to Pearl Harbor. I don’t know why, but it is true. Now, for the first time in a long time, a bit of fat is changing this. Adipose now has more than twice the hits as pearl harbor.

For those that don’t know, MazzMatazz created knitting patterns based on characters from the new Doctor Who, including the pattern for knit Adipose (aliens made of human fat). She released them under Creative Commons license as free for personal use. Well, someone started selling the end product and Mazz reported them. This action then turned on Mazz. The beeb contacted her and asked her to remove the patterns. I don’t know the exact terms in the first email but with the Beeb’s response, Mazz did not feel comfortable in reposting her patterns.

Next the $hit hit the fan for the BBC and word reached the Open Rights Group and the EFF . Eventually even Neil Gaiman chimed in. The Doctor Who fandom gets involved and news spreads people. So, the clean up has begun.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of this. There are a lot of interesting questions that this situation brings up. Where does copyright infringement begin in the craft world. Who do you go after? How do you prosecute it?

I do have three words of advice to crafters out there… Save Page As! This is your best friend. I have over a gig of saved patterns for times such as this. The pages don’t take up much space. Create a directory on your drive and save them there. If you organize them by craft, it will make things even easier. I have a hard copy and a local copy of Mazz’s patterns. Unfortunately, I can’t get to the local copies right now.

Now that things seem to be settling down and who knows, maybe the pattern will be back soon. ;)

Good Kitty

Monday, May 12th, 2008

My cat is currently sniffing my foot in hopes of convincing me that she needs food.

My head has been hurting off and on lately. It is probably due to lack of caffeine. I’m trying to drink less, but suffering for it.

I apparently purchased the wrong deodorant. I put it on and smelled coconut. It isn’t a strong smell, but it is weird that occasionally I would turn my head and smell it. I can still smell it, almost 15 hours later! It kind of reminds me of the scent of Coppertone. Mmm.

I went to the dentist this afternoon. Nothing like the dentist asking if they can numb your mouth so they can cut. Huh? Yeah. I’ll have to go back in a week.

Hrm, the cat is in the kitchen cabinets. I guess I should go ahead and feed her dinner.
