3:10 to Norway

Monday, September 17th, 2007

The kitty has a 3:10 to Norway. She’s going to see her vet, named Norway, at 3:10 today. She has an idea that something is up, but hasn’t quite gotten the clue. She HATES it there. She used to be fine going to the vet when she was younger. Not anymore. If you recall, she’s a holy terror when she is left there. She just needs something for her asthma. I hope it isn’t a little inhaler. One of my sister in law’s kitties needs an inhaler. I really should learn to draw my cat as a cartoon. Her life is just overflowing with cartoon content.

In other news, Josh and I each bought new shoes. I actually ended up with a pair of Sketchers. They are much cuter than in that picture. Josh found some for himself and all is well. Now I am just having a hard time trying to throw out the other shoes. I keep thinking, “Oh I can wear these to do yard work” but I know I have other shoes for that. /sigh They were good shoes. I’ll miss them.

My Papa

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

My dad surprised me. Well, sort of. He called me from about ten minutes away to confirm which exit to get off of. He had been picking up some stuff for their business and was only about fifteen minutes away and decided to visit. He hasn’t been here since before we painted the living room. He never seems to have time.

When dad comes, there is always an inevitable trip somewhere. He usually makes it here around lunch time, so we either go and get something already made or get the things he wants to make. Well today he insisted that he buy and have me try the Morningstar Farms breakfast bites. They weren’t half bad. They seem to be his latest obsession. I laughed because oddly enough I had gotten a coupon for one of them with my receipt the other day. I gave it to him. He’ll never use it, but I’m sure my mother will. In addition to the breakfast bites, he insisted on buying the organic chicken and stir fry veggies I was already buying. Then he decided that I need a pound cake and a carrot cake. OK, so this grocery store makes some of the most awesome cakes and desserts ever, but still. I’m going to go into shock! Well, maybe not. There are also hot dogs for Josh to eat. I did make my dad eat two of them, but that was it.

So, my fridge is nearing the point of explosion. Dad visits are always interesting. He knows he is welcome to come any time, but he really has to remember that he doesn’t have to take my shopping every time he comes! Silly dads.

De-Lurk Myself

Friday, September 14th, 2007

I’ve been trying to de-lurk myself on the websites I visit. I’ve slowly been filtering out the sites that I don’t read that often and now I feel like my mind isn’t all jumbled with everyone’s posts. Now I can comment coherently.

I began working on the Yule ideas today. You know, eight years ago, I would have had all of my shopping complete. Our gift list was also over twenty people. I HAD to make sure I got good deals on the gifts. The list has dwindled a fair amount, so that is good. My side of the family only really celebrates the holiday for the kids, so we only give the kids presents. I always give my parents something, but that is usually more as a “thank you for everything you do for us” gift.

I scored a Sizzix die cutting machine at the local hospice “thrift store”. They had no idea what it was, but I saw it across the store and knew what it was. I was a total dork and played with it for a few hours when I got home. I only have one die, but it is a useful one. I’ll buy more eventually. You can buy them for as low as $0.99 online, so maybe I’ll use my “birthday” money to buy some!

Speaking of thrift store finds. I scored a couple of baggies full of wool yarn scraps. Just enough for goofing off with. I also found an awesome rain coat. It reminds me of one that my great grandmother used to wear, except a bit hipper. It fits perfectly! I will try and get a picture of it, but we are brewing batch number three, so things are a little messy around here. Not to mention the painting grout cleaning and sealing that is also going on. I’m keeping busy in addition to my other certification related stuff. Time, what’s that?

I never did find the filing cabinet I was looking for. I need a tall one for the garage. The store is near the place where they do the blood work so I strolled in. There is another one about a mile away. That one always has new (yes, never worn) designer clothes there. I’ve seen clothes by DG, Versace, Dior, and even some Armani at that store. Yeah, thrift stores have some interesting content around here. Rarely any yarn though. That depresses me.

Well, someone has just given me the cute look of doom and is now flopped on the table next to me so that her tail is gently thwaping my hands as I type. In other words, for my own sanity, I should probably go feed the cat.

Black

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

OK, a little more dvd related stuff. As much as I loved the show, it irks me that the one and only season of The Black Donnellys has been issued on dvd. The show had enough of a following I suppose. It is just annoying that they cancelled it and put on crap like that Joey Fatone show, The Singing Bee.

Oh My Goodness

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix… dvd… nuff said.

Fall Knitty

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Fall Knitty is up. So far I like Muir, Neiman, Totally Autumn, and OMG… Woodins! How freaking adorable.

Entwined is an interesting concept, but I’m not sure if it is something I would knit for myself. Brittany would probably like it. Yule present?

I can’t say this version was great, but it is a definite improvement from the past few issues of knitty.

Mad

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Mother earth is mad. An 8.4 earthquake in Indonesia with more than ten aftershocks over 5.1! Not cool.

The cat is curled up and cuddling my leg. I know I got some of her catnip on my pants leg, but this is just weird. I move, she follows.

My allergies are acting up. My eyes have been itching since early this morning and now my nose is running. I think I am going to get my blood work done Monday or Tuesday. I tried last Friday morning and apparently Friday is when the retirement communities bus the folks to the testing center. At least that is what the woman there told me. When I went in, she let me know that I wouldn’t be able to get in for at least three hours. I’m sure plenty of you have spent a bit of time near older/elderly people. Yeah, three hours of that won’t work for me. I love and respect the older generation, but quite a lot of them have odor/hygiene issues.

Seeker

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

I finally paid attention to the commercial for The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising today and noticed something. The person who was playing the “dark” guy looked REALLY familiar. Lo and behold, I looked it up and it was none other than Christopher Eccleston. I remember the first time I saw him. It was on Cracker. I absolutely loved that show when I was younger. The next time I saw him was in Jude. After that I started seeing him a little more here and there. Ever since he was cast as the Dr. Who for the 2005 season, he’s been everywhere! Not that I mind. He’s a pretty good actor.

I just had to write about that little tidbit. That is all.

Brainicat

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

My cat sat down in front of the receiver and turned it on. Then she decided to plop down in front of the curtains, roll over and proceed to lick the curtain. She is an odd cat. Smart, but odd.

Thunderstorms are growing stronger. I should go. The cat has now crawled under a chair. Silly cat.

Beeeeep

Monday, September 10th, 2007

So far I have experienced nothing more annoying than the sound of the smoke alarm letting me know the battery was going dead, at 2:58am. I slept miserably after that.

The news stations are buzzing this week. That’s because this weekend is when the UCF Knights are taking on the Texas Longhorns. It will be the first game in their new stadium. There’s nothing like the real threat of getting your butt whooped in your brand new house. I’ll probably watch the game to see how they it looks.

Now I think we are going to try and figure out what is wrong with our thermostat.
