Mother Nature, a tease

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Mother nature has been teasing us with her sounds of thunder. Oh how we could use even a little mist of her breath. Alas she has given us naught. There have been thunderstorms developing all around us, yet we haven’t even received a sprinkle. Of course now that I have written those few lines, we just received a large lightning strike nearby. She knows how much I love her, yet she taunts me so.

I have been rethinking our need for a wood chipper. As truly awesome as it would be to get one, I think we should wait. We can manage without one. We may need to hire someone with a stump grinder or do something down the road and the cost of the wood chipper would be better served to go to something like that. It is just an idea.

I think I am going to start taking my camera to school. Perhaps to document my last days there. Graduation is getting closer (less than six weeks). I’m going to order announcements next weekend. I’ve been holding off because I really don’t know what I want or need. I can’t do invitations, they aren’t necessary. Because our school is so large we are limited to 5 or 6 tickets per graduate. That royally sucks. My whole family can’t even attend, much less extended family. So I am sticking to announcements. I’ll take some shots with me in my garb and I’ll have them printed and mail them out with the announcements.

The cat is being a t-u-r-d! She really wants to go on the back patio, but with the lightning, I don’t want her out there. Therefore, she has decided to knock over things on the bookcase. Bad kitty.

Advice

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

OK, here’s some advice from me regarding life…

Stop looking for love. Enjoy life with friends and family. Love will find you when it is ready and you aren’t looking.

School. It is never too late. I’ve seen a lot of older folks on campus taking courses. In many of the cases they’ve retired, but they decided that they want to reach that one goal they never quite reached.

When in doubt, try the library. Libraries have book, periodicals, movies and access to the internet. What more do you need?

Skittles does LOLCats

LOLSkittles says: Welcomz to Rivendell. We has cheezburgr.

What can I say? She amuses me.

Feeling bad

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

I am feeling really bad right now. The kind of bad where I want to be curled up in bed. I have felt that bad three times in my adult life. Once almost ten years ago, once nearly seven years ago, once about four years ago. Wow, now that I think back, I was pretty sick about three to four years. I was out of school for two weeks sick* nearly thirteen years ago. Very interesting. Not cool, but at least interesting.

*I totally missed club photos day for the yearbook that year. That bit bigtime because I was in a ton of clubs that year. I missed the freaking photo for the club that I was president of. How’s that for suck?

Homebrew

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Build me an ArmyJosh bottled his latest batch of homebrew last night. There was a wee bit left over because we didn’t have enough bottles sterilized. Oops. I told Josh that he had better get drinking, but alas he didn’t drink all of that (he had actually finished a glass of it already by the time I took this picture). He bottled it for consumption over the next couple of days.

Josh and I have also decided that our next big purchase will be a wood chipper. The jungle of a back yard needs clearning and a wood chipper is the most logical of purchases. It will probably be in another month or so, but look for pictures!

So much better

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

I managed to fix the space bar on my laptop. I discovered that the little rubber pressure node was off center and that was why it didn’t always register when I actually pressed the space bar. Go me.

I just returned from the office supply store. Why did I go there? Because I wanted to buy a ledger book. I am sick of having to print and cut out my own checkbook register papers because I ran out. It seems that the check printing companies forget that now that we use debit cards so much more, we need more room when we balance our checkbooks. /sigh. So, after getting frustrated having to print, cut and staple a fake register together, I decided to run to the office supply store and buy one. Technically I bought two, but one should last me a year. Let’s hope this makes life a little easier.

No shuttle landing today. It has been very overcast and humid outside, so I figured as much. Tomorrow is supposed to be much nicer, so I have to prepare myself for the sonic booms. I just hope it doesn’t happen while I am driving. I have never experienced that (as either driver or passenger) and I don’t know how that will feel. Yes, you can feel the sonic booms.

You may recall my post about moo-cards. Well, I finally got mine. I was wondering if maybe I didn’t get in on the free ones or something, but they arrived. I understand now why it took a while for them to arrive. They are actually printed and shipped from England! Doh. At least that explains them willing to ship international.

So, what do I think of the moocards? They are seriously freaking adorable! I am very tempted to get some. I would have to think for a while about what to put on them, but darn it are the cute. They are nice quality too. They are about half the size of a business card, but they don’t have raised printing like a business card. They have an eggshell finish on the front. They aren’t like the business cards you get from VistaPrint. I’m really quite impressed.

I know on LJ, there were quite a few Etsy sellers using them as tags for their crafty goods. They would be perfect for that. All that they need is a tiny hole for string or ribbon.

Kids

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

My dad just called to see if there was anything I needed him to bring me back from his trip overseas. I could have listed a few things (yarn, more boots for my collection), but I am also old enough to buy the things myself. Anyhow, he also asked my nieces and nephews if they wanted anything. Shalyn made a list.

On her list was:
A laptop
A music player with a microphone (couldn’t spell karaoke machine I think)
An Ipod (because Brittany has one?)
and then apparently no one could make out the rest.

Of course my mom had to explain to her that my dad meant Souvenirs. That girl really wants a laptop. She has wanted one since she was about four. I think it is my fault. I would always allow her to play games on mine when I would visit. Silly girl.

Bowling

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Josh is off bowling. It is a work team building outing or something. I just finished mowing all of our freaking lawn, did the dishes, shopped for groceries, balanced the checkbook and now I think I should probably eat. My only problem is that I am too damn tired to make anything. It is moments like this that I wish I ate things like pop-tarts. Even opening the package would be too much. Why did we buy a house on a hill? Ugh.

Licking curtains

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

Could someone please tell me why my cat has started licking the curtains? No, really. She started it yesterday and is doing it on both sides of the curtain. I know they are named mocha-praline, but that doesn’t mean they are meant to be licked or eaten.

Yeah. I’m going to feed her and hope that maybe she will stop doing it. It is getting a little too weird.

Two Down

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

Two of the three programs are done. My partner and I have to attempt to break what I wrote for one of the programs, but so far it seems to work. I just have one issue that needs to be checked and I will do that by talking to the class TA. I hope I don’t need to make any changes, but we’ll see.

The networking program is done, compiled and submitted. This was a rather flaky assignment and honestly I’m not sure what I will get on it. We hardly touched on the topic and anything I needed to know had to come from me consulting the internet. But, it is over and we’ll see what happens.

I actually have seven days until my next program is due. Not sure how that happened, but I am happy to have that much time. I’m aiming to be done Sunday afternoon/evening. I want to do some yard work and perhaps clean up the house a little. There are papers everywhere.
