Break

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

So in an attempt to torture ourselves, Josh and I are watching America’s Got Talent. Thoth was just on. I saw him and knew it was him instantly. I imagine not too many people (including the judges) knew that he was the subject of an Academy Award winning documentary. I just thought it was interesting to see him on this show. It seemed out of place, but at least he was on TV.

OK, back to homework. I’m almost done with the networking homework. Still plenty of other things to do though. Bleh.

Locking Away

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

I am locking myself away from the web for a bit. I really need to focus on getting some homework done. That list I posted a few days ago has grown. Not cool. Also, I want to try to spend a little time with Josh tomorrow. We have not had a day off together in quite a long time. So, if you don’t hear from me for a few days, you know why.

In other news. I returned from visiting my dad a few hours ago. He had goodies from his trip. Actually my goody got left behind, but I am OK. I’ve been there enough in my life that I don’t need goodies. It was mostly for the youngins. Josh got goodies though. My dad and I went shopping to find out what we can do about my mom’s phone. She left it on the enclosed patio overnight and now the screen is solid white. Doh. We discovered that there is a corporate cell store around the corner from their house, not just a reseller. Nice! So a new phone is being shipped and her old one will go back for evaluation. We also bought plants for their yard (not from the cell store) and some other yard related odds and ends. Here’s hoping the kids stay out of these plants.

I found a backyard table and chair set that was really inexpensive. It was tempting, but that is something I would consult Josh on. We currently have the camping chair out on the patio for the cat to bird watch from. That’s it. We kind of need something.

OK, off to work on that homework. I’m getting distracted again. Just a few more weeks, that’s all.

Relief, what relief

I watch the news often. I read the news even more often. Interestingly enough, I have heard little to nothing on U.S. news stations regarding the cyclone that hit Pakistan and the immense damage it caused. Is it because Pakistan isn’t a tourist/resort area? Why is it that the places that seem to get the help are the places where the tourists come? There was a town destroyed (literally) in the midwest and we didn’t have any fundraising events or calls for aid. Why? /hrmphh

Cool, but weird

Friday, June 29th, 2007

There are some times I like having google ads on my sites. I find some quite interesting links that way. Today I discovered the litter robot. I could totally see myself getting one of those and painting it to look more like Marvin.

Where’s my grade

Friday, June 29th, 2007

I’m waiting for my grade to be posted. Yesterday I demonstrated my networking program to the Teaching Assistant and damnit I want my grade.

My eye is twitching. Weird.

Downing St. door opening… news conference…

Dad

Friday, June 29th, 2007

My poor dad. He’s flying home today and now this crap happens. I hope this doesn’t delay his plane leaving. He has already said that he doesn’t want anyone coming to the airport until he is at the airport!

*Update: Dad’s flight was delayed an hour and a half. It will probably be a pain in the arse on getting back in the U.S. though. Just as long as he gets home safe.

Oww

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

My wrists are hurting. I’ve been spending an insane amount of time on my computer and my wrists have finally started complaining. Josh had mentioned about getting hand weights to try and strengthen them. I have some either one or two pound ones, so I may need to start. I am taking my time typing this, so it is ok. I’m also sitting in a way that makes it easier to type, but hard to sit without feeling like you are going to fall. Bleh.

I have started working on my fourth cs programming assignment. I hope this is it. I’m tired. I knew this 12 weeks would be rough, but I was hoping for a break somewhere. I just hope to sleep in after school is out. Yeah.. that would be nice.

Done, for tonight

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

I finished my third programming assignment for my computer science class. I worked for a good week on one particular implementation and I failed. I have to say, I probably was going in a little over my head, but hell, I attempted it. I finally resorted to getting the worst possible case working, to the better case, to an even better case. I don’t think I reached the perfect case, but I did what I could.

Of course now our fourth assignment has been posted. I think I will take my book tomorrow and read up on this one. It seems like it might be a little more interesting. That should help during the programming of it.

I’m going to list my schedule now. Just so I can map it out in my head.
July 6, CS lab program due.
July 9, CS exam.
July 12, Networking exam.
July 13, CS program 4 due.
July 19, Networking program 2 due.
July 20, CS lab program due.
I suspect that I will have a 5th CS program due on July 27th or around there. We don’t know exactly how many programs we will have.

Finals week starts the 30th and then it is graduation (hopefully)

Send me positive thoughts. I’m really going to need them.

Bored

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Anne and I are bored. We finished camp (networking lab) in eleven minutes. It is a two hour long class, but we can leave when we are done. So now I am working on my program and trying to stay awake while she reads. Bored bored bored.

We’re waiting for Eric to get out of class so we can eat before our networking class. I also get to give him his belated birthday present. I waited to give it to him because his birthday fell during a hectic week where we needed to focus.

Seeing as he won’t be reading this until after he gets it, I can say what I got him… I picked up a copy of Knitting With Balls: A Hands-On Guide to Knitting for the Modern Man. It is the perfect book for a guy learning to knit. The patterns are guy oriented and there are great instructions for learning how to knit. It is kind of like the guys version of Stitch n’ Bitch. I also got him some yarn and a pair of needles, and a few accessories that I needed when I first started.

Here’s hoping he likes it.

Halfway

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Today is the first day of the second half of the semester. Today session B starts. There are kids walking all over the building trying to figure out where their classes are. Me, I’m hiding in the corner of my class hoping that there isn’t a class in here until mine at 10am. Still, today is a marker. It reminds me that in six weeks I could be graduating. I have six weeks to get my act together and get my work done and done well. In six weeks I could theoretically be done with school forever* and enter into the real world again. In five weeks I’m going to start freaking out because we have finals, but in 5.5 weeks I will realize that I only have one final that I need to freak out about.

School. I suppose it is all worth it in the end.

*That is unless I decide that I heart school too much and want another degree.
