My cat is too smart for her own good. She’s been known to open doors on her own. Most notably was the whole opening the fridge on her own incident. The time she got herself stuck in a drawer also gained her some fame. Little do most people know, she did it again a couple of weeks later. I’m not sure if the drawer incidents were actions of intelligence or not. I’m leaning far towards not.
It wasn’t strange for me to not see my cat for some time. I had painted our bookshelf and was waiting for it to dry. It was the final coat of some five coats (It was a dark shelf if you remember). As I walked by I noticed that there was an odd reflection on the very end of the shelf. I opened the screen door and went onto the patio. At that point I hadn’t fully realized that the door was open partially. I discovered that my darling little kitty had opened the screen door and hopped onto the bookshelf while it was wet. Wait, it gets better.
While shaking my head I saw what else she had done. Apparently upon realizing her paws were wet, she jumped down. But she didn’t jump to the floor. Instead she jumped to the couch, wiping her wet paws along the way. By the time I noticed all of this, the paint was dry. I was so frustrated that all I could do was laugh. It was even funnier when I picked up the cat and saw all of the white paint on her paws. My cat hates anything wet on her paws, so she was suffering. She didn’t lick it off. She waited until it was dry to try that.
So, following my discovery, I began searching the internet for solutions. I had heard of plenty, but nothing ever conclusive. I went to a site I had been to before and found pretty handy, wikihow.com. There I found an article on “How to remove latex paint from clothes“. I actually found this one useful. Searches came up with positive results for the rubbing alcohol method, so I gave it a try. It worked for the most part, but some of the really heavy paint globs were a little too set in. The fabric is lighter in that spot, but there were places where it came right off. I tried the pick off method on the heavier spots, but the underside was still too stained.
So, that ordeal is dealt with and the cat is feeling better. We’ve done the touch ups and we’ve brought furniture in. There are the little odds and ends left to put up and then I can take pictures and be happy. Well, that might have to wait until Thursday night. I have a big exam on Thursday that I feel unprepared for.
