Catch Up

Monday, February 26th, 2007

OK, let’s see. For the people searching for things in particular and getting my site:

1. There is no better version of “What is a Youth” than the original.
2. For complete lyrics to So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, please visit the official site’s sing-along page.
3. They still make the Edy’s Girl Scout Cookies: Samoa ice cream. The carton is now purple (formerly orange). Unfortunately I can’t eat it.

New news:
Jesus in a Box – My first words… “We can clone Jesus!” You know, the church could bring about the second coming early and see what happens! Then they can either say, “We told you so.” or “Aww sh*t, we’re f*cked.”

Oscars – I’m happy that some people won, but I don’t think that they were necessarily the best this year.

My grandfather is seriously ill. My mom flew up on Saturday. I really don’t know what is going on. I need to call her, but I always get her voice mail.

I discovered I live fairly close (7 miles) to an awesome state park. There’s lots of swimming, snorkeling, cave diving, camping, biking and hiking. I’m hoping that once we get stuff done with the house we can actually go check it out.

I have a midterm this week that is requiring a lot of studying, so that’s why I’ve been quiet. I’m still waiting on my discrete grade. Part of me feels OK. I know what I am doing, but I sort of cracked during the test. You would too if you had less than three hours of sleep and took the exam at 7:30 in the morning. I know I forgot to do a 5pt question, so I’m just going to have to wait and see. And that’s all for now.

Lost Labels! I wonder if Josh will let me put beer ones on some of his homebrew.

Finished

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

I freaking finished. I actually finished about 45 minutes ago but forgot to put paper in the printer, then realized I hadn’t put page numbers on, then realized my word count was in an awkward location. So, now it is stapled and in a folder, ready to be turned in. Final word count… 1,600 words exactly. At one point I had 1,733 and I hadn’t even finished my conclusion. I took out my initial introduction and went with something completely different. I was able to make it just as relative, but shorter. It also allowed for a good and shorter conclusion.

Oh, in case you were wondering, the paper was about us discussing a theme we found in particular assigned chapters of Struggle and Survival in the Modern Middle East. The chapters had to do with women and their positions and roles in the community. I wrote about the role of education (formal and informal) in these women’s lives and how it correlated with their level of power and influence in their communities. No, this isn’t a Women’s Studies class. It was just a good topic to discuss in a paper.

To be completely different, we’re just now approaching the creation of Israel in class. Yep. I had to miss Tuesday’s class, so I’m curious to see how the discussion went.

Oh crap

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Wow. I’m sitting here writing my paper and haven’t even made my third point much less my conclusion and I am already at 1147 of 1600 max words. Oh crap! I am going to just write until I am satisfied and then start trimming down as necessary.

I should mention that I started writing about two and a half hours ago. I don’t know what has gotten into me, but I like it. I started around 11am (the view was coming on), took a 40 minute break to talk to my mom, take out the trash and recycling, and change the cat’s litter box. So I have written that much in less than two actual hours. Sweet!

I just hope I am making sense.

More links

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Apparently my need to post links occurs during the times I choose to cook. Odd. Anyway…

Hollaback HeadHunter the Video – that’s right. The song plagued my ipod for months as it was great for riding my bike at 5:30 in the morning, now here’s a little something for your eyes.

Bjork’s video for Play Dead – I loved when she did this song in concert, I have to find the cd somewhere. Maybe I should shop flea markets and garage sales. That’s probably the more likely place to find it. I admit that I don’t even watch the video. I like it for the song, no really, for the song.

YouTube took down the original link, so it now links to another copy.

Link release

Monday, February 19th, 2007

There is massive pressure building up in my bookmarks, so I’m going to post them now before it explodes.

De clutter Your Desk – That’s my kind of clean! I’d be willing to have our systems out of the office if they looked that organized. (Via A Whole Lotta Nothing)

Breakfast of the Gods – There be trouble in the lands of cereal. (Via Boing Boing I think)

Check your tax refund status online – Now I just need to submit mine! (Via the IRS)

Uh, that’s it. My breakfast is burning.

Blathering Blather…

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Today is the day for the Daytona 500. Oh the pain the commute home will be for those people. Yesterday while coming home from getting some specialty tools for the car, we witnessed the traffic from those returning from the Orbitz 300. It wasn’t a pretty sight. I’m just glad we were going in the opposite direction.

Josh is busy working on the car and listening to the race. How umm, American can you get. It keeps the mundane car work a little more entertaining. At least I hope so.

Oh, great news for all of you sock hole creators! About a month ago I discovered some bamboo and cotton socks. They breathe really nicely and are rather comfortable and just the right thickness. I’ve been pretty abusive to these things (subconsciously) and they are holding up beautifully. So, if you have a tendency to treat your socks like crap or have problems with holes or the like, give bamboo yarn socks a try.

I don’t know if you can tell, but I’m avoiding something. I have a paper due Thursday, a homework due Tuesday, an exam on Tuesday and another homework due on Friday. I’m avoiding them. I managed to kill about 30 minutes by repairing a section of drywall I sanded out (on purpose). I also did a little more sanding in other spots and taped off the chair rail that is up. Yes, I am avoiding my work, horribly. I’m tired so doing homework will just make me fall asleep. I totally understand why so many college students are taking adderal. Then again, I’m just avoiding it because there are other things I would rather do.

Ugh. I just have to keep reminding myself that there is only one semester left after this. One semester left after this. That is unless I do another degree just to torture myself.

Cautious Kitty

Monday, February 12th, 2007

The cat had been pestering me for quite some time and I finally figured out why about five minutes ago. Apparently her water bowl was empty! I want to hook up her fountain, but I can’t think of where to put it. At least I know she’s concerned about getting enough water. Maybe that explains the whole sitting in the toilet incident.

Josh is in the garage working on the car. He ordered some new fancy pants parts rear brakes and is installing them. It’s time for it’s fix up, so I will just suffer through it. There was a slight bit of drama when we couldn’t find the correct tool needed, but a quick to the auto parts store and something comparable was found. Let’s hope it works well.

I took down the drapes, rods and accessories. We patched the holes in the wall and to provide some privacy, I’ve taped gift tissue paper up! The whole day I felt like it was snowing (it was raining and a little chilly). Now we have decided that we like the look. I’m going to start looking around for some rice paper shades. If I don’t find some here, I’ll probably just make my own.

Time to go check on Josh

The real 24 episode! Too funny. (Link via fivedollarshake.net)

I’ve got songs from the Smiths stuck in my head. Actually one of them is a cover of Bigmouth Strikes Again done by Placebo. It is a little different, but good.

Side note, while trying to find a good site to link to for any of the Smiths/Placebo tangent, I found SecondHandSongs.com. It’s a cover songs database. Good to know! You’ll notice I didn’t find anything really worthwhile to link to. Even wikipedia was lacking.

Foggy

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

It is almost 9am and there is still a pretty decent amount of fog outside. The sun currently resembles a full moon. It’s going to be one of those days.

I have returned from grocery shopping. I forgot my list, however, I managed to get everything that was on the list. I did discover while putting groceries away that we are missing a few things that never quite made it on to the list. I’ll get them later.

In the car on the drive home, Peter Bjorn and John’s Young Folks came on the radio and I started feeling sleepy. I think it was Victoria Bergsman’s voice. She kind of reminds me of Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star.

My throat is sore and my voice is going out. Like I said, it is going to be one of those days.
