Waiting on the knife’s edge

Friday, December 29th, 2006

I’m waiting. Not with baited breath but more with concern. His death is coming very soon. The timing of it is very interesting, hanging him just before the holiday. Nothing like adding fuel to the fire. /sigh

Josh is sick too. His symptoms seem to be the flu, but I’m not sure. My grandfather is doing better and mom is returning soon. Oh and Claritin makes me freaking nuts! The cat had ice cream and then went for the catnip. It was a sad thing to see. Doped up on the nip.

Catch Up

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

Gerald Ford died last night, my mother flew to see my grandfather and find out exactly what is going on health wise. We’re getting conflicting reports as to what exactly is going on. We were told that he can’t survive without the big tube (the proper name escapes me right now) but now we are being told he’s responsive and doing well. Does that mean he CAN survive without the tube or not? Yes, we seek answers. So, because of my mom being gone, my nephew is asleep on my bed right now as I am watching him today.

My cousins headed home yesterday as well. My brother and his family returned and I went to the doctor. Even with insurance my medicines ended up costing over $80. Apparently I had something more than just a sinus infection. I forgot what he wrote down, but there were two other things wrong with me.

Now I think I’m going to plop down next to my nephew and catch a few more winks before he wakes up.

A scream

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

Pardon me. I need to scream.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

It would appear that we all got my nephew AJ the same present for the holiday. Side note.. that is a hell of a lot cheaper on Amazon than what I paid for it.

So I get to go shop on Christmas eve for a present for him. This sucks. I informed Josh that next year we are making presents! I’m not even going to attempt to take that thing back for at least a week or two. I’ll let Josh run over to the hardware store while I suffer.

Two Points For Me

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

Woo Hoo. I managed to get an appointment and I figured out how to change PCPs! I got an appointment with an associate of my current PCP and will change PCPs after I have researched the potential candidates. So far my candidates include:

1 Norwegian
2 Indians
1 Philipino
1 Malasyian
2 Hispanics

Those are the non specialty people within the area. Finding a doctor is so much fun.

Non Holiday Related Stress

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

Happy Winter Solstice everyone. It’s 80 degrees outside right now.

OK, this sinus issue is kicking my butt. I tried to call to get a doctors appointment for next week and I got their messaging service. Not exactly helpful. Why is everyone closing so freaking early? There were places that were closing starting yesterday. WTF? Then I decided to check my bank account balance. The balance was fine but one method of money movement was wrong.

My mortgage was showing up as an automatic withdrawal, but I never authorized automatic withdrawals. I like to be the one in charge of dishing out that much of my money, not handing over control to someone else. So I called the mortgage company and found out that this is their new way of doing it. No paper mess, all “wire transfer” crap. You know, I like having physical copies of my checks. They made getting our mortgage a whole hell of a lot easier.

So, now I am frustrated at that, can’t get a freaking doctors appointment and need to find a new PCP and clean the house so Josh can bottle brew. Beavis, the holidays suck.

I’m not so sure of this one

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

My husband had a birthday yesterday. It’s a guy thing, we don’t talk about ages and stuff. Right. He bought brewing stuff. Lots of brewing stuff.

So I watched the trailer for the Transformers movie today. From a CG standpoint it is awesome, but somewhat over done. Too many “things” move on the the transformers for them to be practical. I don’t know. I’ll probably go see it because like transformers as a child. I grew up playing with my brothers’ transformers.

In other news, I am not sure that I am actually sick. It may have been that I was sick and now I have a sinus infection. I don’t know. I know that I am blowing like crazy and it sucks.

Other news. I’ve gotten some pretty interesting holiday cards this year and I am thinking of turning them into decorations. I haven’t decided how exactly, but they are pretty in a seasonal way.

I’ve gotten Winter Solstice / Yule presents for the kids. We’ve been only doing gifts for the kids because there are more adults than kids and we adults are a picky bunch. I have two more children to buy for and a little second gift for a third child. Someone got one of the kids something that I had been planning on getting them, so I purchased an accessory it that is pretty neat. I liked it and might get one for myself.

The tile progress has been slow thanks to me being miserable and Josh not doing so well either. We’ve decided to just hold off for a while. It will be nice to finish, but feeling better has to be a priority.

Keep this

SNL

Monday, December 18th, 2006

So Josh and I actually decided to watch SNL this weekend. I have to say it really made me laugh. This weekend’s first half of the show was so much better than the whole shows from previous seasons. I was feeling too miserable to continue watching it, but Justin Timberlake has won a new place in my heart for his umm “___ in a box” digital short along with the “Give it on up to Homelessville” skit.

Thinking ahead

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

While taking a lunch break from putting down the tile (which is still slow going thanks to feeling miserable), Josh and I discussed what to do with a currently unused wall in the room. In a moment of lunacy, I thought we could put a bookshelf there. Oh yes, it was thought up while I was feeling rather crazy, but it is a pretty good idea. Josh will get to use most of his power tools to do it and I will get something functional out of it. Just a quick search of ikea gives me something similar. The Bonde system is kind of what we want, with the clear front, except the bookshelf will be about waist high and about nine feet long and the glass fronts will be panes of glass. No dusting for me!

In other thoughts, yesterday someone rang our doorbell. Me having been home on previous Saturdays knew who it would be. A certain religious group comes every few Saturdays and tries to make their way into my life. I told Josh not to bother with them. It is always someone different, so it doesn’t matter if you tell them you aren’t interested. But, in any case, Josh mentioned that we needed to put a camera. Duh, we’re quite stocked with wireless, cctv, and web cams.

Eric has mentioned previously about us installing ZoneMinder in our house. I am becoming tempted. I can watch out for pesky kids and pesky preachers. Oh and the mailman too. Just in case he is delivering some million dollar check from some rich person I have never met. A girl can dream you know!

Progress

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

We put some tile down. I was/am feeling very weird today. Almost like I have a cold, but not really. Some people were sick the last few days of school, but I don’t know if that is it. I hope not. After the chicken pox, my immune system is crap.

The cat is extremely pissed at us. She’s been confined to the bedroom all day and is going crazy in there. She should enjoy it, it is much cooler in there than in the rest of the house.

I’m thoroughly enjoying The Fountain score. Was there much doubt that I would like it? Nah, it’s by Clint Mansell, front man for one of my favorite bands, PWEI!

OK, maybe I should sleep. It is so past my bedtime. We have a ton more tile to put down. I’ve taken before pictures, but I won’t be posting anything until we at least get all of the tile down. Maybe I’ll take some pre-grout. I’ll see.

And finally, I’m sending some good luck tomorrow for Eric. Foundation exam time. At least Friday night he can get it all out of his system!
