Oh Crap

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

I’m just sitting here thinking… I can’t remember whether I put my name on the second part of my programming exam. Oh crap. I hope I did. It would suck if I didn’t.

A couple of days ago I looked at the cast list for the movie version of The Da Vinci Code and only one person fit my vision of the characters. While reading the book, Jean Reno was the face that kept popping in my head when I thought of Bezu Fache. I really didn’t see Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon and I was pretty shocked to hear that Ian McKellan was playing Leigh Teabing.

Side note. Magneto is getting his own movie???? Interesting.

OK, off to class. I just wanted to note my Da Vinci Code thoughts.

How to Play Piano. A link I think Brittany would enjoy and maybe my piano might get some use after all! (link via Kris)

OK. I’m trying to get ahead of the game this week. I’m going to do some assignments that while technically should have been due weeks ago, have yet to be assigned. Hopefully I can do them correctly!

Oh sigh

Just a couple of paragraphs into this news story and I see this…

The third in line to the thrown is expected to pass with flying colours and become a second lieutenant in the Household Cavalry after his final parade at Sandhurst next month.

thrown?? Come on. How do you not know the difference between throne and thrown? /sigh

On to studying.

Left to do

Programming assignment, done. Once I got going, I finished it pretty quickly. Yay for me.

Next I have a crapload of studying for one class and a crapload of reading for another. Oh, and an online quiz. At least that is open book. Both of the reading/studying are for Monday. It sucks. I also have an exam on Thursday. There may be another somewhere between there, but I can’t say for certain.

I need to go rent some movies. I wonder if the movie stores will even have them. I need to watch Gung-Ho and The Gods Must Be Crazy. I’ve seen them both numerous times, but we may actually have test questions from them, so I need to review them for details.

Josh, can we get one of these printers? That output is so life-like!

Brittany and I didn’t make it to the science center as planned. She was too tired to get up that early. Instead we went shopping, via bus. So it was still a bus adventure. We ended up having my mom swing by and pick us up instead of returning home via bus. My mom was going to be passing right by us, literally. We did a ton of walking which was a big part of my overall goal. The other part was to show Brittany just how she can do things if she wants. There is a main bus stop a block from her school. She could do things on her own if she wanted, after school. She wouldn’t be so dependent on my brother or sister-in-law to go places.

Now, of course I totally avoided doing any school work today, but my shopping was school related! I bought a calculator that does hexidecimal and binary conversion and I also bought a new pair of shoes. I need something comfortable to walk in. I was set to buy some Timberlands but decided against it. I am glad I did because I found a pair of really cute but completely practical shoes for half the price (sale!). Go me. I may even knit myself a pair of socks to wear with them. I haven’t worn anything this low that requires socks, in a while.

Well, Josh just called and is stuck in traffic. It is pretty bad. There is apparently a 50 acre fire somewhere near here, but I don’t think that is the cause of traffic, but if the wind is blowing it in that direction, I guess it could be. I’m trying to find more info, but they haven’t mentioned it again.

I managed to check over a few of the problems from my programming test. Of the ten I could check, I got 8 right. One of the ones I missed was due to a completely stupid error on my part. I failed to notice a missing little bit of code. /sigh

I might be able to find the answers to the other problems, but I haven’t looked yet. I’ll probably do that before bed.

Stinkers

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

Remember that miracle I was hoping for on my programming test? Yeah, didn’t happen. In fact, I didn’t even get to do one of the 15 point problems! Want to know why?

About 45 minutes after I made that post, I started feeling bad. I finally went into the lecture room and sat down. Just before class started I raced to the bathroom and puked. Thirty minutes into the lecture, I race out again and puke more, a lot more. Class break, I puke a little more. After class, I puke again. The third and fourth time I had tears in my eyes.

Before anyone asks… no, I’m not pregnant. That was the first thing someone asked me. I think it was something I ate. That’s the only explanation I can think of. Anyhow, I spent so much time trying to avoid puking during the actual test, that I ended up not answering one question at all and only partially answering another. I’m not expecting a good grade at all.

So, around 3:45 this morning I sat up, felt bad and went right back to bed. I really couldn’t risk getting sick again today. I did run to the store with my mom today. I wanted to get something bland and safe. I ended up getting other things when my mom wanted to run into another store, but we’ll just say it was due to my being sick. At least some of my shopping was groceries! I managed to get an adorable sweater jacket for $4. I plan to wear it tomorrow seeing as the high is supposed to be 71.

Brittany and I are doing a bus trip tomorrow. We’re getting an all day pass and riding the bus around town. We’ve made slight plans, but we’re mostly going to play it all by ear!

A Test Today

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

I’m sitting here. I’m waiting. I’m supposed to be studying. I have been studying most of the day. However, I don’t feel well. My sinuses have gone wacky and now I am just trying to calm down. I want to scream. Not just because of the current pressure in my head… but also because of the cliche nerds sitting at the table next to me.

First impressions are lasting impressions. These two guys are stereotypical. I have been tempted to go and wack them upside the head, but I am resisting. Maybe if I drank another coffee.

The weather is absolutely crazy lately. We almost hit 90 Monday (I think) and tomorrow’s high is supposed to be 69. WTF? This is partly why my sinuses are going crazy. It has been extremely dry. Tomorrow there is a 50% chance of rain. Thank goodness.

Alright, one of the “nerds” has gone and the other one is being quiet. I can study in somewhat peace now. At least I found a table in the engineering atrium. That’s a miracle. If I am lucky, maybe I will get a couple more today and pass this test!

bang bang

Sunday, March 19th, 2006

Watch me as I sit here banging my head against the desk. I’m so damned tired that I can hardly motivate myself to get to sleep.

We went to the land o’ sea creatures today. I’m tired. It wasn’t an abornmal amount of walking that I did. It was an abnormal amount of standing in one place. Mainly the bathroom and the food lines. Still, it is not as bad as Disney.

Classes start again tomorrow. I’m not taking my laptop because I REALLY need to study and read this week. Time to get my arse in gear. No more funny stuff. I mean business. I’m actually thinking of staying at the school longer to spend time studying. We literally have four weeks of classes left before finals. So, if I seem insane and distant over the next five weeks, you’ll know why. Thankfully I will be able to take a two or three week break between terms.

Make Make Make

Saturday, March 18th, 2006

So Josh and I shopped around for platform beds and were disappointed by the selection out there. We have been thinking of making our own. We’re handy with tools and Josh has plenty of carpentry experience and an eye for detail.

I’ve been looking at the different designs and coming up with a plan in my head.

I found this little number at HGTV. I think this would be a great idea for a guest room, but I don’t know if it is something I would want in my bedroom. So, I moved on. HGTV also had this one. The only problem is it wouldn’t match any of my furniture, design wise. Although, I’m sure we could modify this tansu design to suit.

I don’t know why, but I am finding myself fond of the simple design of these Europa beds. Maybe it is the idea of not having little nooks and crannys to clean!?!

/sigh. I really should be stuying, but I don’t want to!
