Three more days

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2003

I’m giving myself three more days to finish this painting stuff. I’m tired of painting, yet I’m not. I enjoy it but I feel gross and tired when I’m done. /sigh

I’ve been working on an image gallery for SkittlesCam. I’m pretty much done except for a few things here and there, mainly the stylesheet.

Well, I have to climb onto the room tomorrow to paint some walls of the high walls, so I’m going to bed.

Paint splattered

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2003

I am typing this while sitting here splattered with paint. I hate painting over my head, it sucks. Five walls have been painted and a large portion of the front porch are done. I only spilled paint in the grass once. Considering what time I started I think that is a miracle.

My carpal tunnel is kicking my butt right now. My fingers have been tingling for almost an hour now. I’m waiting for Josh to get out of the shower so I can stand with a scrub brush and get this stuff of my arms. Wait, wait, wait. /sigh

I would have finished the front porch if it wasn’t supposed to rain today. Just the possibility makes it hard. Tomorrow I need to get up at 7:30am to get started on the wall over the garage. The guy that owned this house before did a really crappy job in general. He had just finished a messy divorce so I guess he didn’t care. /sigh

Thinking back

Monday, July 21st, 2003

Many, many moons ago I stumbled across something on the net. There was (is) a site that was battling a large computer corporation because of copyright/trademark infringement. They were saying said company stole their name and sent a C&D. Well, from what I understand they won their case and all that. Good for them.

However, I do find it interesting that when I sent them an email and posted a question on the site regarding the fact that one of their “support us” images was actually a trademark image taken from another site (which I knew they had no permission to use), I was first ignored and then my post was deleted all together. I was actually quite nice in my letter since I supported their cause. After their actions, I believe them to be no better than those they were fighting against.

Maybe this is why I’ve been so hesitant about joining any groups, cliques, or web rings. I mean I was a reader at Metafilter for almost two years before I finally signed up. I like to know what people are really like before I sign my name to anything, so to speak.

Well I have an early day of painting tomorrow, so I shall go. Maybe not to sleep but more to rest.

More testing

Monday, July 21st, 2003

Yes, more testing.

Weirdo kitty is in weirdo mode.

I am trying to get this working so that I can update all of the different sites running movabletype. I have thought about using MT to organize a lot more data on SkittlesCam.com.

Zempt

Monday, July 21st, 2003

I caved in. I’m giving Zempt a try. This will be my first post using it.

I did some shopping today. A friend of the family is closing one of her clothing shops (she’s opening up closer to her home) and so I bought myself some shirts and a few other things. I’ll miss her and her fun cool clothes (my supplier of cool skirts for $5!), but I’ll go visit her at her other store off and on.

Skittles has discovered she can fit in the two inch gaps of our bedside tables. I have been hearing these clicking noises in the middle of the night and couldn’t figure out where she was making the noise from. Today I heard it and found her inside. She’s so weird.

Dreams

Sunday, July 20th, 2003

First off, Happy Birthday Matthew! You are a big boy now, so help mommy paint!

Weird dreams last night. Really weird.
First dream there was someone following me around, but in flashy cars.
Second dream, I found a baby under a car in my grandparent’s driveway. We eventually discoverd who it belonged to (they were dead) and their family wanted it back. We adopted it because they were a bad, bad family.
Third dream, there was a hurricane being really weird and turning due west right towards us.
Then I woke up.

In the first dream I feel like I knew the person in the car, but I’m not sure. The other dreams, I have NO CLUE what those were all about.

I am not sure if I will get to scrub the walls today. It’s been overcast and threatening to rain all morning. /bah That sucks.

Dustmites soon

Saturday, July 19th, 2003

Ok folks. I can’t help it, I really like Steve’s stuff, so buy Songs for Dustmites! It releases in less than a month (August 12th). Hear songs and learn more here.

Did some shopping with my mother and can’t recall getting anything for myself other than a pack of peanut butter m&m’s. I did get two xmas presents!! Go me!

Wall scrubbing tomorrow and painting on Monday. This will be one of the more difficult walls to do, shrubs everywhere! Hello Mr. Pressurewasher!

Lazy cat

Saturday, July 19th, 2003

Skittles is being extremely lazy today. Actually now that I think about it, everyone seems to be blah today, even the kids.

I finally got a problem sort of figured out. Cookies were misbehaving on a discussion board I manage and I managed to get it solved after an hour of getting irritated.

Well, I’m off to go shopping with my mother. At least someone wants to do something!

Excuse me while I sleep

Friday, July 18th, 2003

I’m tired. I started painting a little late today. I managed to finish before 11am though. Josh was finally awake enough to help while I began working on the last quarter of the wall, so he finished that up while I cut in along the ground. All in all, it looks good and went fast. It’s the side that the trash bins go on, so it gets messy easily.

I also woke to a message asking if I could watch the munchkins. Things get seriously turned upside down for those kids some days. At least they are being kept busy at Cafe 9 ¾. I finished up the menus and printed them out. Brittany decorated them and they’ve been keeping busy for almost two hours now.

I am already hearing talk of expansion. How much more room can they need? There are only three of them! They are so cute it’s killing me.

Oh, and note to myself… if you work there, you will get it if you keep taking breaks longer than 15 minutes! Brittany got after Melanie (Shalyn’s character) for taking too long on her breaks. I haven’t figured out what AJ’s character’s name is. We were calling him “Cooook” last night. He didn’t mind.

Cafe Nine & Three Quarters

Thursday, July 17th, 2003

A little review of Thursday’s fun with the kids:

Cafe Nine & Three Quarters

With a little creativity by ‘The Kids’, the living room has been transformed into ‘Cafe Nine & Three Quarters’. A quaint little fine fake food dining retreat, off the beaten path of the front foyer.

It comes complete with white table linen, deep red table runner, ambient table lighting (a tiny lamp of mine), and the finest plastic dishes west of Italy. The view is astounding. To one side we see the oceanic fish observatory (giant aquarium) and to the other side we see the natural dense canopy forest (front yard).

The cafe features an open kitchen floorplan so you will always know you are getting the freshest plastic dinners and cardboard desserts available.

Today’s specials included:

  • Invisible Chicken
  • Barely There Roast Beef
  • Scarce Swordfish
  • Unfortunately for us, Chef AJ informed us that they had fast sold out of all of the day’s specials. We did however enjoy a wonderful necklace spaghetti (the chef’s specialty). And for dessert we finished off with delicious cardboard ice cream and cookies.

For the price (which is high), you’ll definately get your wand’s worth.

As you can probably imagine, I’ve had my fill of fake food today. I’ve already been recruited into making “proper” menus for the cafe. I have the layout and images done but now the youngins must give me their list of specialties. I’m still trying to convince Brittany that she should give away glasses of water for paying customers. She insists that it’s $1.00 a glass. She’s as bad as Disney!
